Veggie burgers are amazing, actually better that real meat.
If you're talking about Quorn/other alternatives, then I disagree. They taste disgusting, nowhere near as delicious as real meat, I just shy away from them altogether. I did make a beautiful spinach, sweet potato and lentil dahl the other day, though.
my opinion is that they're not better than real meat, but they're not a too bad alternative considering they're not made of anything remotely similar. quorn bacon has an odd appeal. bean burgers are where it's at though!
Why haven't I seen this thread before? Been vegetarian for almost a year now. By far the best choice I've ever made concerning my own health. I've gone from 89kg to 72kg and I feel great.
Not a vegetarian but I tried making small beetroot steaks a few weeks back. They turned out a bit mushy but were easy to make and aint that expensive. ( I put plenty of spices in them tho', plain taste is horrible imo. )

Never expected other vegetarians on FP. I've been a vegetarian for a good 6 years now, still goin strong.
I'm not a veggie but vegetarian burgers are goddamn gorgeous, I have no idea what was in them as I got them from some burger stall at a festival but I went back everyday because they were incredible.
I practically live off these god damn they're good (I think I eat the nacho ones though):
Tofu is something that looks amazingly delicious but ends up not being so. That is my main quarrel with it.
Tofu is something that looks amazingly delicious but ends up not being so. That is my main quarrel with it.
I heard it's not something to eat on it's own, but with sauces/soups/spices etc
Switched to Pescetarianism (from eating meat) around April, still gotta cut out fish entirely although I don't eat it all that much.
Out of curiosity, why are people here vegetarian?
Out of curiosity, why are people here vegetarian?
Dislike the taste/feel/look/smell of meat and fish. Also, hello everyone!
Out of curiosity, why are people here vegetarian?
Was raised Vegetarian, I've pretty much been one my whole life. [editline]17th October 2012[/editline] Also Delicious
Out of curiosity, why are people here vegetarian?
Looked at what I enjoyed eating/ate on a regular basis, saw that there was little to no meat so why not cut it out completely and save some money? I don't much enjoy dairy products either, though smoked gouda is my vice.
Well I tried the Linda McCartney vegetarian steak and onion pies. Hooly wow, thanks for that suggestion!
I really appreciate this thread. Being a vegetarian at a university is kind of difficult but there are still things to eat. The dining commons are about 70% meat-based things and the other 30% are mostly carbs and salad. They have garden burgers which aren't too bad every once-in-a-while, but pasta and a spinach salad get so boring...they had tofu one time and it was really soggy. I'm going to start using some of the recipes in here to cook in my hall's kitchen. Thanks, again to everyone contributing!
I've been vegetarian for a while now, and I do feel a lot better from not eating any meat.
I'm an omnivore. Both of my parents are vegitarian (My mother is actually a pescetarian but whatever) and to be quite honest vegitarian food really isn't that bad at all.
Now I get to enjoy the comforts of never having undigested meat in my body ever again. My insides have never felt better.

Welsh sausages!
Just sayin' guys, steer clear of Quorn and Boca and pretty much any brand that isn't Morningstar Farms. Take one of these with two slices of American cheese, ketchup, mustard and onion, assemble on a bun and you have the closest thing you're going to get to a McD's Quarter Pounder as a vegetarian. Notable other things of awesome they make include faux-chicken nuggets (that we slipped past a 10 year old boy without him realizing) both crumbed and grilled faux-chicken patties, BBQ Riblets, Corn-dogs and recently, I've just discovered their meatballs. I couldn't be vegetarian without Morningstar. Seriously ♥
Morningstar makes some pretty good products On the subject of veggie meat I once bought some veggie sausage (I forget which brand). It felt too rubbery and I really didn't like it

Seriously ♥
most morningstar products contain milk or eggs, so they aren't vegan (and they're owned by some big meat company or something) boca owns and tastes better [editline]6th February 2013[/editline] just made some vegan taquitos with TVP i flavored with faux beef powder and chili pepper (among other things) they were amazing You guys should stop using store bought stuff like that and make your own Seitan or crumbles with TVP, they are way way way cheaper.
They also taste horrible.
They also taste horrible.
eh, are you microwaving them? that's the only way I could see them being that bad, they do have a weird texture if you don't sear or grill them What's your favorite hot dog? All the ones I've tried are pretty weird.
So my girlfriends birthday is coming up at the end of the month and she's a vegan, so I'd like to cook something small for her. I was thinking of something like vegan burger or something fun like that, she doesn't mind stuff like meat substitues. I'm having trouble finding a recipe that's not too difficult for me (I barely cook) or too expensive to find the ingredients for (baring in mind I wont have use for them after) but obviously I don't want it to be too boring, so any suggestions would be great, I'd be really gratful.
I'd happily eat a vegetarian diet, but I don't want it to be an inconvenience for my family when it comes to cooking meals. Can anyone suggest any simple veggy stuff I could cook for myself?
