If its stupidly loud and constant, like say 80 decibels... then that's horrible >.>
It could be dangerous.
Especially when nothing was mentioned about consumption and sleep, sleep more than food and water.
And not knowing the mental state/strength of the people in question.
The more you listen to it the louder it sounds.
Seriously, open up Audacity and use the generate noise function and set it going for like 10 minutes
It's annoying as fuck
I'd sign up, then just not sleep for 2 days prior. Sleep through the whole thing

I don't have audacity, but i know what you mean, similar thing happens when a tv is turned down very low.
Don't try to make someone go crazy. Instead, study the mind expansion and mental state that sensory deprivation creates.
Also, a sensory deprivation tank works much quicker than your experiment, although they are hard to find.
This is a lot more serious than you think. The victim could go berserk and kill himself/someone.
No amount of money would make me watch Begotten alone in a dark room with white noise.
48 hours only?
Schedule:
Sleep for 3 hours until TV turns on
Watch movie for 2 hours
Whack-off for 1 hour
Do nothing for 3 hours
Watch that Rubber Johnny thing
Sleep for 10 hours
Whack off x 10
Watch movie
Whack off
Sleep for 10 hours
Whack off x 5
Done and thanks for the 300

I'd do that for free.
Sounds scary as fuck.
Idea: Give the subjects a bong and some grass during said experiment.
i would totally do it for 300
this is a stupid idea, 48h isn't that bad, i could last twice longer.
:smug:

You'll be on a live stream. Jerking it isn't the best idea.
Do this on yourself first.
It's funny when it's happening to others isn't it? No, this experiment isn't "fun" or "interesting" or anything of the sort, what you're doing is purposely screwing with peoples heads, NOT conducting an experiment. Theres a reason these things are conducted by DOCTORS of psychology, not some random guy off the street. Get a grip, this is just a horrible thing to do.
This is completely true.
You obviously have no idea how to even go about conducting an experiment. You are trying to get a specific result (madness), and you are setting up the experiment specifically to do that.

it's called a hypothesis, it's a required part of having an experiment.
You have no idea the forces you are fucking around with boy.
This will go wrong and someone will snap and fuck you up.
No, I'm pretty sure that once they get out of the room their psychosis would go away if they had any.
I'm not locking people into the room, they will be able to open the door at any point. They will probably not last through Begotten, and simply leave and get their $20.
The white noise will not be loud, it will be at at a low level.
This is a lot more serious than you think. The victim could go berserk and kill himself/someone.
They would leave the room before that happened...

I'm not a random guy, I've taken various psychology classes.
Tell me what makes the people in the video mentioned in the original post more qualified than me, and what they can do that I can't.
it's called a hypothesis, it's a required part of having an experiment.
No, he is setting up the experiment to purposely get that result. This isn't an unbiased experiment. This isn't a "sensory deprivation" experiment.

It's a controlled experiment, what makes it biased?
What declassifies it from being a sensory deprivation experiment?

Why would you set up an experiment where the test subject could leave at any point thus disqualifying the results, or if they did stay the whole time they likely would have various psychotic problems resulting from your "experiment"? This isn't some school lab where if you mess up you can just wipe up the mess, this is something that you can be sued for not having a practitioner's license.
On top of all of this if you really knew what you were doing why are you asking a bunch of 12 year olds on the internet if it will work or not.
OP thinks Mythbusters follow the scientific method.

A practitioner's license? That's not something you need that to conduct a simple experiment such as this. Psychologists and doctors need a licenses to treat patients. I'm not offering any sort of treatment or guarantee. I'm just paying people if they can get through 48 hours in the deprivation room.
A liability waiver will be enough to protect me from any possible lawsuit claims, and I trust that there won't be the possibility of any either.
There is no mess, there is no potential mess. People go into a dark room, get scared, leave. Those that make it through will be interviewed to study what they feel and think after all that time, and what their thoughts were while they were in the chamber.
I believe it will prove to be a fascinating insight into the workings of the human mind when starved of stimuli.
I'm not asking if it will work or not, I'm asking for people's opinions on this. This feedback has been great, even if it's been mostly negative. There's no point that anyone has made that I cannot counter however, as most negative things people say are completely unfounded.

If it was a documentary I'd watch it.
[editline]07:13PM[/editline]
As in if you filmed the interviews and everything.
Back when I was a kid my mom had to work until about 5 o clock. So every school day I would have to go to an after school care where I really hated it because I didn't have any friends there and there was nothing to do, so I almost literally sat in the corner every day for about the 2 hours that it took for my mom to pick me up. It was literally painful to do nothing just for those 2 hours a day and that only compounds on itself the longer it goes on. and to think that this is with things to watch, things to watch, and the occasional distraction.
TV static can be very powerful. our brains are made to recognize patterns. The brain will make out patterns that aren't there and you will start seeing and hearing things. By the time the videos come on they won't be able to distinguish it from reality. I can't even imagine the amount of paranoia.
I don't think there is any amount of money to get me to go in there to do that.
But, if you are serious about doing this I suggest you should try it on yourself first before on someone else.
You should try doing something new, like the opposite of sensory deprivation, like in a vibrating chair with bleeps and bloops going on and very bright lights (strobes maybe), that would be interesting.
he's conducting an awesome experiment for :science:
So you are paying people to sit in a dark room and watch horror movies for two days while you watch? Have fun with that.
This is awesome. FOR SCIENCE!

Yeah, the interviews will definitely be filmed, everything will.
I don't know if I'll make it into a documentary, but everything will go on youtube for sure.
So you are paying people to sit in a dark room and watch horror movies for two days while you watch? Have fun with that.
Yes. Except only two movies will be shown, along with a short clip. I think that their mind will meld the movie into their own reality. I'm really interested to see their thought process, and how they act.
your parents didnt love you enough
Be sure to occasionally flash an image of a clown doll on the TV at random intervals. And make it laugh. And, if possible, include a live feed to a room in your lab, and have scary things happen in it.
NOT sensory deprivation if you are watching a movie.
