Sensory deprivation or perceptual isolation[1] is the deliberate reduction or removal of stimuli from one or more of the senses. Simple devices such as blindfolds or hoods and earmuffs can cut off sight and hearing respectively, while more complex devices can also cut off the sense of smell, touch, taste, thermoception (heat-sense), and 'gravity'.
Because suppressing every sound with white noise doesn't do the trick.
Turn every source of sound off. You still hear what's outside.
Put your fingers in your ears. You still hear something. (even movement of the fingers)
Play white noise. That's it. White noise is everything you hear. Far worse than any silence OP can provide w/o messing with subjects ears.
Umm... what?
Why?
And who's going to do that for $300?!
I would.

Yes, because OP knows better how to do this than the scientists who have performed numerous experiments like this one.
How silly of me.
I must do this
Why even do this?

White noise is actually used by the scientists who have done experiments like these: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/tvradio/programmes/horizon/broadband/tx/isolation/
Even though they were in an underground bunker, which would be completely silent anyways.
Why even do this?
There is knowledge to be gained. I've always been fascinated by psychology, and I love the famous experiments. Zimbardo's standford prison experiment, milgram's obedience experiment where people believed they were shocking each other, watson's conditioning experiments where he conditioned fear responses. These are my favorites, and they're fascinating to read and learn about.
So now I'll have my own experiment, and it'll be broadcast live on the internet for the world to see and learn.

Psychological experiments isn't something to do in a basement.
How about you let the professionals do their job and you if you want to do this, go and climb to the point when you'll be able to do them.
Plus I'm pretty sure there's laws against this. More specifically, people like you doing this.

Actually the stanford prison study was done in a basement.
Let the professionals do their jobs? I would if they actually did experiments like these, but they don't.
There are no laws to prevent me from paying someone to sit in a dark room w/ white noise and show them horror movies.
It would be interesting to see how long I would last, though I'd probably destroy the tv since I don't like horror movies.
Also, to make things more "interesting" if its going to be livestreamed, you could allow viewers to donate money that will be added to the original $300 as well as let them suggest videos to show the vict-patient.
dont forget august underground mordum

You'd have to punch the tv screen, as it will be mounted in the wall with none of the buttons accessible so it can't be turned off.
That donation thing is good idea, so the more entertaining the person is they more money the get.
dont forget august underground mordum
The thing is that I chose the videos because while they're creepy, they're not explicit gore. Two videos do show gore, but it's to convey a greater message. august underground is a pure exploitation piece with no redeeming values.
Can't the person just turn off the TV?
Simple question: what is "white noise?" I'm too lazy to wikipedia it.
buzzing. just buzzing. or static. such as:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkWlU2Sqwew
Constant white noise is a bit harsh. Do flickering lights when you know they arn't looking at the lights. Another suggestion would to be give them a small paragraph every few hours, and eventually have the letters stretch out, or an image fade from a very light gray to solid black.

Put this on the tv
You're going to show them Begotten. You are one sick motherfucker.
[editline]09:08PM[/editline]
I would't watch Begotten for $300. No fucking way, I made it through 20 minutes of it two years ago.
Never. Again.
Sounds like an interesting experiment. Messed up, most definitely but I'm curious.
