big round of applause to microsoft for finally catching up on a feature that essentially everyone else has had for years and years before
It's funny, they had it in Longhorn(Vista) back in 2002 and took it out.
Saved the video in case it gets pulled, but it seems that Microsoft has, as has been mentioned before, finally caught up to (some) of the features that everyone else has had for years. For instance, virtual desktops has been in Linux for at least 10 years (since 2004 and probably before too), so this is a bit late to the game. None the less, I suppose it's great they're slowly pulling a finger out of their arse.
Fucking yes tis true, the microsoft cycle is continuing! Unfortunately that means windows "10" will suck.
Unfortunately that means windows "10" will suck.
I can't even think of sick things that might be there
shut up about the fucking windows cycle
Multiple desktops is one of the reasons I have Linux on my laptop, since it's a small screen it's easier to work with if you have multiple desktops you can switch between.
Not sure what the multiple desktops would be useful for More userspace?
Is this really Windows 9, not win8.2? Current 8.1 build is at like 9000 somewhere, +800 build would be win9? Sorry for my English.
In really liking the look of windows 9
Is this really Windows 9, not win8.2? Current 8.1 build is at like 9000 somewhere, +800 build would be win9? Sorry for my English.
it's still in development, so probably won't be there for awhile yet
Is this really Windows 9, not win8.2? Current 8.1 build is at like 9000 somewhere, +800 build would be win9? Sorry for my English.
It's partly 8.2, but they've made many changes, it's worth a new number in my books
I want it.
I never realized how much I wanted this feature until now.
Same here, it's something I never really thought about; but having it makes me realize how amazing it is.
I really hope they change that ui, I love the default look of 7 it doesn't strain your eyes one bit.
I just hope that customisation like 98 comes back one day
I hope there's an option to disable the start menu. I've gotten used to, and now enjoy, using the alternative in Windows 8.1.
Just in case anyone wants this feature right now.
Holy fuck, you don't want to know how useful this is for me. When I'm working on my map in hammer, I have so many fucking explorer windows open to copy stuff.
Just in case anyone wants this feature right now.
I can middle-mouse click to open folders as tabs. yes yes yes yes yes yes yes.
Is this really Windows 9, not win8.2? Current 8.1 build is at like 9000 somewhere, +800 build would be win9? Sorry for my English.
Windows 8.1 is internally known as Windows 6.3 Build 9600, the current technical preview of Windows 9 is internally known as Windows 6.4 Build 9834.
Is this the first thing that macs have actually had before PCs?
Perfect for small screens. I'm curious how this'll fair on lower end graphics, as it may just be grand for someone wanting to have proper 'To-Do' stacks/background processes on the other desktops and their actual work on the main one.
improving over windows 8 is like being the smartest person with a critical traumatic brain injury. windows 8's "flat" UI is kinda ok to use on tablets like the surface series but its super obvious on any desktop display that they put no effort into separating the two UI or adapting them to different clients. its really really really really embarrassing the state microsoft is in honestly. windows is basically a dead OS as far as innovation and excitement goes, its only holding on because it still has massive market share around the planet and the established application ecosystem for 99% of users exists on windows. their mobile OS is a big gross mess imo, totally failing to compete in any capacity with iOS or Google, their new tablet series that theyre desperately pushing is late to the game and lacking in any real distinguishing features other than a large scale marketing scheme and the nearly worthless microsoft seal of approval. bing, i dont even need to write a sentence about it. you already know about bing. i think microsoft is spread far too thin and theyre trying desperately to stay relevant in wayyy too many fields that they simply arent good at. they want to play the big boy "we do everything" game like google without putting any significant effort in any of these products and as a result they have a massive portfolio of mediocre and half assed services that make you wonder how the fuck they cant afford to hire some competent designers or project managers. its no wonder they laid off a ton of people recently
The whole home-screen redesign is basically the most innovation we've seen in desktop OS's in years. The biggest end-user change betwheen Win95 and Windows 7 was the Vista start-menu redesign. Besides that, saying that all their projects are huge failures just simply isn't true, their mobile OS targeted medium sized companies with their exchange server integration and in that aspects it was kinda successful. Bing also ended up being one on the second best search engine out there, it isn't better then google but its better then any of the other alternatives. You're expecting that all the products/software they release will simply blow all competition off the board, which is a stupid expectation.
Is this the first thing that macs have actually had before PCs?
I don't know, I can't find a date when microsoft released their optional powertoy for windows Xp, Spaces for OSX came out in 2007, windows had theres at least before 2009
Well, windows custom desktop environments have had this since like 2000 or something or something but it's nice it's being officially supported. Still, it's not really a feature I'd use a lot
What's that song?
I don't know, I can't find a date when microsoft released their optional powertoy for windows Xp, Spaces for OSX came out in 2007, windows had theres at least before 2009
That PowerToy was integrated into Longhorn in 2002 so either 2001 or 2002 would have been when it came out.
Just in case anyone wants this feature right now.
Are they using components of chrome? everything is so chromeis [t]http://i.imgur.com/xHErEeo.png[/t]
Are they using components of chrome? everything is so chromeis [t]http://i.imgur.com/xHErEeo.png[/t]
Wouldn't be surprised if it's using chromium or it's forks
Just in case anyone wants this feature right now.
I fucking love you so much.
