Oh man, finally. Been wanting this in windows since I tried out Linux. Linux isn't there yet to be a full replacement for an average user, but it is really good to see that Microsoft is improving.
I feel like I'm an average user and linux replaced windows completely for me. I didn't boot into windows for a couple of months now.

Just wanted to let you know, you're a fucking godsend.

Expected as much.
I don't think you know that siri defaults to bing :v:...

Because it hasn't reached that critical point yet

haha yep bro us mac users sure are dumb fags right haha lol apple fanboys god im a gay baby
i wouldnt know anything about siri because ive never owned an iphone. i use windows 8 daily because im a computer programmer and most of my current projects are meant for deployment on windows primarily. you dont have to be an apple devoutee to realize microsoft is terrible at design and the direction of their company is scrambled at best
This doesn't look great. Hopefully someone will create a mod to make it more like 7.
I really hope they change that ui, I love the default look of 7 it doesn't strain your eyes one bit.
i miss 7's UI so bad. the big superbar and the aero windows was beautiful and whenever i see a screenshot of it i remember how much better it was. tbh im not sure why im on windows 8 at all, other than the fact that i typically like to be using "new" software
The whole home-screen redesign is basically the most innovation we've seen in desktop OS's in years.
The biggest end-user change betwheen Win95 and Windows 7 was the Vista start-menu redesign.
Besides that, saying that all their projects are huge failures just simply isn't true, their mobile OS targeted medium sized companies with their exchange server integration and in that aspects it was kinda successful.
Bing also ended up being one on the second best search engine out there, it isn't better then google but its better then any of the other alternatives.
You're expecting that all the products/software they release will simply blow all competition off the board, which is a stupid expectation.
the home screen redesign was also one of the most controversial and still complained about changes they've made to their OS in recent years. adding a wailing siren sound that rings every 30 minutes to your OS and cant be disabled would be rather "innovative" but if people dont like it it doesnt count for much
android and ios are better than wp8 in every imaginable way imo and both of those systems offer exchange integration as far as im aware, so that shouldnt make much of a difference, not to mention the fact that both are still entirely suitable for medium sized companies to use and that microsoft is still trying to market wp8 as a competitor to android and ios
and ofc with microsoft, a massive tech behemoth, funneling millions of dollars (and subsequently losing those millions lol) into bing, it'll end up becoming pretty popular. when you have the ability to choose the default search engine on like 90% of computers being produced in the world you have a great shot at bumping up numbers for your product, that doesnt mean it is a good product that has any way of differentiating itself from google

Never made such a wild accusation
I don't get multiple desktops, why not just put it on the same desktop? I like that it's an option, but... I dont get it.

Some people find it better for workflow.
I prefer to see everything that I'm doing, and actually enjoy a bit of clutter
Three monitors do the trick

i imagine it would be super helpful if you're working on a project involving lots of windows but you are on a single-display device. i could imagine myself using it if i had to do any serious programming on my laptop but i have a dual display desktop so i just default to that.

I always found it useful to declutter my workspace when using linux. ssh session and filezilla in one desktop, one dedicated to browsing, one dedicated to multimedia, etc. easier to hit a hotkey to switch between than dig through all of the windows open

Next time you change the definition of "innovation" please specify in your post, so i don't have to reply to you in the first place.
Instead of replying with a decently formulated argument and then you being "doesn't count if i think people don't like it"
I really like the overall design, it's the Metro design philosophy applied in a practical way for desktops.
Remove Metro, re-add Aero, and I'm sold.
Remove Metro
Will never happen
I got pretty butthurt when they removed the start menu, but I'm so used to Metro now I can't even go back. I honestly prefer it to the old one.
I do miss Aero, though.
Wow, seriously? About time. I'll still find it pretty useless though... I've never had a need for a window to remain up front, where minimizing or layers are a problem.
Anyway, how about dragging icons from one desktop to another?
Wow, it took about 20 years for Microsoft to catch up in this area... I'm surprised it took them so long.

This man deserves an award
Remove Metro, re-add Aero, and I'm sold.
There's not actually wrong with Metro though. It's a pretty neat design language, information is pretty much shouting at you the entire time rather than it being hidden behind gloss and noise. Flat colours, simple shapes, awesome for user interaction really. Other platforms have adopted similar design styles because minimal styles are very effective for UX. The desktop implementation of Metro over Aero looks pretty good to be honest, outside of a few small areas.
Though MS really need to get on top of the inconsistencies, having icons dating as far back as Win 98 floating around is a bit weird sometimes. It really should have been an all or nothing kinda thing.
Personally I've never used start button in win 7 nor I used it in win 8. I usually pin my needed programs on task task bar. What I do like in win8 start menu is the search engine and how fast it finds stuff I need.

It's like Stockholm Syndrome, but for software.
