I envy fuckers with naturally straight hair, my hair is curly as hell, but it looks pretty cool when straightened, it took 20 minutes for someone else to do it, I shudder to think of how long it would take for me to do it myself.
Oh and it's not gay at all, I don't know about anywhere else, but around here lads with straight hair generally get more girls, loads of guys use straighteners.

do whatever you want. if you think straightening your hair will make it look cleaner and well kept.. do it.
I have "wavy" hair. The worst thing is this tuft that sticks out miles on the left side.
Usually, when I striaghten it, it looks awesome, but damages it. and I have GHD's and use heat protection and condition daily.
The bulk looks shiny and straight and nice, but with loads of frizzy bits. Takes a few days for the moisture to come back.
If you think you can sustain healthy hair along with straightening, then go for it, it's worth the effort when done right.
I have curly hair, it's badass. It's not curly when really short, which is what it is now though.

To achieve a more spiky effect, try standing in the middle of a field with a long metal pole during a thunderstorm.
Men straightening there hair is nothing to be ashamed of these days... it's not any more gay than styling it with wax or gel. They're just different looks.
It's actually pretty hard to straighten your hair the first few times. Use a hairbrush to stop it going frizzy. If it looks dumb all you have to do is wet it and it will go back to normal.

I'd worry more about the freakish white birthmark on your face, and the sloppy corrective surgery first.
Washing your hair to often causes frizzy hair so lay off a few days and see what happens.
