People that think they know things about cars but don't

Yeah seriously, I'm not too knowledgeable about the workings of cars or even how to perform an oil change, but damn.
I know enough to know I don't know shit. :v:

I can do all the easy stuff though, like an Oil change, brakes, spark plugs, and I changed my distributor cap/rotor and wires.
At my dad's shop we've had vehicles come in with cross-threaded and stripped spark plugs, I don't know how people manage that sometimes. How hard is it to twist a fucking spark plug in?
There was a nice Mitsubishi pickup there that I'd like to have had the motor out of for my '88 Lancer, it was a MPFI 4G64, the 2.6l Hemi. Mmmmmmmmmmm...

Some things about cars, it's like "Oh okay, they know absolutely NOTHING about cars."
Some things about cars... well... there's just no excuse.

Learning time!
Jack up car, place catcher (Something to catch the oil that will pour out) underneath the oil drain plug (Looks like a big bolt at the bottom of the pan). Oil will pour out into the pan (if the pan is underneath to catch lol). Do this preferably while the car is cool.
Once the oil is drained, screw it back on. Take out your old oil filter and replace with a new one (Don't forget to put some oil in the filter and lubricate the screw-on side though). Screw it on tight as you can with your hand (You dont need tools as you don't want to strip the oil filter). Now, fill up your car with oil.
Pretty simple.
my mom / sister think that any bass felt in the cabin = you can hear it from blocks away

Haha, that's great. Although I can respect the not wanting to thump thing. I hate when I'm at a red light and can hear BUMP BUMP BUMP BABUMP from another car, makes me want to drive into that faggot who is playing that music with a really repetitive beat.... Eh. :|

What a coincidence, I witnessed that yesterday at school.
Some asshat in a silver impala was blasting music from his car. Some guy from school in a lifted red F-150 rear ended him and then drove off. The whole trunk of the impala was crushed and there wasn't any noise coming from the speakers anymore.
they're both assholes but the guy in the truck is a bigger asshole.

But a superior asshole in every sense of the word.
The Video explains it all...

Probably old but these kinds of people piss me off. That's obviously chain rattle, no engine "knocking on 3 cylinders" (or even one) will run and rev as well as that, let alone as long as this one does in this video. He should have put a new tensioner on the timing chain when he got the engine in. That's something that anyone who orders a used (even slightly) engine will tell you.
Now I bet he sent back a perfectly good running SR20, or pulled it out and sold it for really cheap to someone who fixed the rattle and now happily drives an SR20 powered something-or-other.
People like this should not try to do their own engine swaps.
At about 0:26 you can hear where it gets so much slack it is hitting the chain cover. Ugh.
Assuming it wasn't the chain and it really were a rod knocking, "durrrr lets rev the engine up so it locks up and becomes completely useless instead of trying to save the crank and block".
Oh god, I know right? If it was a rod knock and he sent one through the side of the block that would have been a lot of money down the drain on what could be easily (albeit not by him, since he's an obvious dumbass who only thinks he's a mechanic) be fixed with a new crank and set of bearings. You don't even have to pop the head off for that, I'd consider it a weekend project.
i dont know much about cars when it comes to engines, transmissions, you know the engineering. Kinda wish i knew someone that could teach me about stuff like that. Although i do have a story to contribute, my friend, "That guy is an idiot, diesel is only for 18 wheelers, why is he putting it in his bmw?"
ahaha. Too bad most people in America are like that about Diesel. :frown:
Why can't they sell Diesels here? Just because all the old people think diesels are slow loud and smelly.
Just because all the old people think diesels are slow loud and smelly.
But they are.
people who don't know the difference between a rim and a wheel (or people who think wheels are rims or vice versa)
I was explaining to my lil bro about what a wastegate does and then he says "So with a wastegate you don't need a blow-off valve then right?"
I was like "lol wat yes".
how so? you don't necessarily *need* a BOV, just a method of clearing the excess pressure, a BPV works just as effectively depending on the car and setup
it's still a BOV, just a recirc'd one

They do sell Diesel vehicles in America. I worked at a Mercedes dealership where 90% of the fleet were late-80s and 90s Diesel mercs. Tons of diesel Rabbits around here too. And toyota pickups with diesel engines. And the likes.

A friend told me he got new wheels (on his honda jazz no less), 2 weeks later i see his car and he just got new hub caps, and shit ones at that.
I gave up trying to explain things to him after that

That's about all there is though, old Mercs and VW's. I've never seen Diesel Toyotas, though I've heard of them. The thing is, they're not as common as other countries. People talk about how they want vehicles that get good MPG's but most just buy little 1L Smart cars and the like. I personally like diesels, for their reliability, and power while still getting relatively good mileage.

But there are tons of diesel cars around. At any given time there is at least one for purchase on craigslist, and they aren't horrible deals either.

Just looked up Diesel vehicles on Craigslist in my area, and found like 8 cars on a page of 160 that aren't F-250s and Dodge Rams. :v:

Lol it's Intercooled. :v:
[editline]6th April 2011[/editline]
Reading some stuff on how Intercoolers work in Diesels. I didn't know how different they were from Gas engines.

Every time me and Japfeiffer go to the thrift store we see a nice EK hatch. Today we met the guy who owns it.
Jap: "What's it got in it?"
EK Guy: "It's not stock, nothing in it is stock. It's got a Matrix engine."
Me: *texting on phone, hears the guy say that* "...uh."
Jap: "What is that?"
EK Guy: "It's an aftermarket Honda engine."
Jap: "Do you know what that is Brad?"
Me: "......No."
I was trying to avoid calling the guy an idiot by saying "That doesn't exist." But I try to be nice.
Seriously, though. The way the guy said it, the way he meant it... I could tell he knew nothing about the car. He later told us it was his girlfriend's car, he just drives it. -_-
"Does the radiator warm the engine?"

:buddy:
The Jeep's radiator is doing a great job then. Why am I even changing it? :v:
