• Man invents machine to convert plastic into oil

This device needs to be mass produced.
Isn't there a huge plastic island floating on the atlantic somewhere?
I find it hard to believe there is no byproduct of this conversion, like you open up the main plastic reservoir and its perfectly clean? Call me a skeptic, but I feel like there is some setback of this device, be it small or large. Otherwise it seems amazing.
So then this means that oil is now a renewable resource. Can't wait to prove my science teacher wrong.
Noble price right there.
Srs? You mean Nobel Prize?
This better fucking catch on with all major countries. Brilliant way to get rid of trash and lower gas prices.
Mr. Fusion!
This seems like quite a simple construction, hopefully that'll mean it'll be cheap as chips so it'll be widely adopted.
How much did it cost to make?
Something like this could be done simply over a camp fire. Don't believe me? Make a camp fire, and make a funneled pot running with a pvc pipe, running into a glass/plastic container(has to be at least five to six feet away to prevent over heating) then use the concept he discussed in the diagram, and you'll be able to make gasoline. Not sure how safe it is to use on cars, but it's incredibly easy to make this concept... I'm almost dumbfounded no one thought of this sooner.
This is brilliant, hopefully aswell oil companies will have less business and stop controlling everything as much as a result. Think about it guys in the future everyone will have homes where everything is pretty much reversible since energy isn't destroyed.
Everyone in this topic is talking like they found the holy grail of our oil problem. This machine can't possibly be cost-effective.
Goodbye future oil shortages.
And hello Mr. Environment Pollution.
Mr. Fusion!

So, this is pretty much the Mr. Fusion from Back to the Future. That's pretty cool.
:ninja:
I dont really believe that this kind of machine would be new. Basically he is heating up plastic and getting the gases? "Omg I never thought of that!" I believe these kinds of machines have existed for a long time, however this japanese guy has made into a semi-portable device, like he says in the video. Can someone do some research?
This will be extremely effective and useful in large cities.
global warming is a lie.
This is fucking awesome. If I had one of these machines (or if they were publicly available somewhere) I would save all my plastic so I could turn it into oil. This is awesome.
this product is a lie.
This takes more energy to convert the plastic than the plastic gives out. This machine is not economically friendly, the plastic has oil in it of course but the amount of energy to make the plastic and then heat it up and convert it back is far more than the energy given by the oil you get out. Not worth it. You could make it solar powered to take it off the grid but even then its gonna need a battery and still not be worth it.
This isn't really novel... I really don't see why this is important at all; so what if you can turn plastic back into oil? Guess what, you can also turn plastic into... plastic. If you want oil for burning, go drill it, don't turn it temporarily into plastic and then back. It's just a massive waste of energy.
He's probably making tons of money and cleaning up the environment at the same time, it's a win for everyone
What do you think recycling is? They melt plastic down. Now, if you can answer why that doesn't work, then you'll realize the problem with this plan.
What do you think recycling is? They melt plastic down. Now, if you can answer why that doesn't work, then you'll realize the problem with this plan.
As I said and as you mentioned, this mans mind is in the right place but the execution is poor. The machine requires a ton of energy for heat to melt the plastic down and turn it back into oil, its just not a good option. Recycling plastic is always best.
What do you think recycling is? They melt plastic down. Now, if you can answer why that doesn't work, then you'll realize the problem with this plan.
People throw out tons of plastic that is labeled as not recyclable. He showed that you can take any plastic and run it through there to make oil. I just hope people don't put recyclable plastic in these machines, because then we'll need to make more, and as you said, it'll be very inefficient.
Why wasn't this invented earlier? This is one of those ideas that's incredibly useful and brilliant, but it's such a no brainer. If it can become a household product, I'll invest in one for sure.
Will it blend?
What happens when we run out of plastic to change into oil?
BRILLANT! Seeing as plastic nevers breaks down, this will be very handy.
BRILLANT! Seeing as plastic nevers breaks down, this will be very handy.
Not true, bacteria that eat plastic are being bread in the labs and planted in land fills, they can eat an entire water bottle in under 10 years and the accelerated ones can devour one in under a year.
Not true, bacteria that eat plastic are being bread in the labs and planted in land fills, they can eat an entire water bottle in under 10 years and the accelerated ones can devour one in under a year.
yeah and really the only problem with plastic bottles is they take up space. I don't see how other than that, they'd affect the ecosystem. If anything, plants and animals would use plastic bottles as shelters.
