Offline mode has been so flaky for such a long time I really do wonder whether it is supposed to allow truely offline, or the bizarre half online sometimes maybe who knows mode that it is now.
Steam is great but you can't agree that all drm only affects those that pay and then turn around and give steam drm a free pass.
Well my internet was out for 3 months so it must be longer than that if its true. Though I say thats probably not true and instead caused by a few problems that can cause steam to not work since I hear there are a few things that cause offline mode to not work.

Its not always online. By definition it is not because I don't always have to be online.
Same with Origin. But steams offline mode still doesn't work correctly.
I recommend watching more of LGR's videos. He covers tons of retro PC stuff.
Steam is the best DRM out there, even though I've had a lot of problems with it in the past. Hopefully systems like Steam will be all the DRM of the future. Also I have used the dongle system before, and it's actually kinda neat, except for when it doesn't work :v:

I have had steam for years and never had a problem with offline mode. Maybe its a problem on your end? Also I have no problem with other download clients but I would say with alternatives like gamers gate, green man, gog, amazon, ect Origin seems like the worst option considering its really never has sells and since EA fuckes up every other week.
Steam is genuinely the best Copy Protection out there.
I've used it since 05 and have had literally 0 issues. Other than silly slightly inconvenient unfixables.
The only issue I have with steam is that sometimes Offline mode breaks, and also if you reinstall Steam or reformat windows, Offline mode also breaks. This is an issue for a vast minority (including me) who are forced to run internet through a university proxy, which Steam offers no current support for
So as we can see, PC user's only have themselves to blame. Right from the get go people aren't willing to pay for software, thus DRM. Hardware companies must get a real kick out of that...
Also not being able to resell your games on Steam really blows. That's one reason I never buy a game unless its heavily discounted. And the fact that someday your digital collection may be inaccessible. Unlikely but a possibility.

You can pirate with any game console though. Its just that most console gamers are ignorant about that fact.
