Moonwalking and hardcore kicking
You decide that it's in your best interests to kick the fucker down and then moonwalk through the door, but after breaking the door open do you realize that you have no clue how to moonwalk or how to start. You walk backwards through the busted door anyways.
Getting outside you realize that it's abnormally dark for the time, although it may be a storm. There's what seems to be a dark cloud hanging over the north side of the city, but it's too dark and the cloud too vague to get an idea of what it is. In addition, there's the soft glow of a raging fire, considering the distance it's a very large fire.
The tornado sirens have stopped, and the lack of sound makes the eerie landscape very surreal. In the silence you contemplate checking out the fire, or heading over to your only local friend, Hayes. You also wonder if you should check out the general area around your neighborhood.
Your thoughts are interrupted by an extremely large crack from the south of you, almost like a large bomb going off. The lack of smoke after a few seconds of waiting writes off your assumption, although you're not too keen on the sounds of bombs. Downtown seems interesting suddenly.
Your car has a fresh tank of gas, so that's not an issue. You're thinking that any problems in the foreseeable future aren't preventable by you.

This is one of those times multiple answers probably isn't going to work too well

We don't seem to have any clue what's going on, perhaps your friend knows?
And in case he doesn't, you're together and there is strength in numbers, should the situation ever require it.
Not related to the options, but what kind of smell is in the air? Does it smell like a storm is coming up, is there the smell of fire or something else?

This is an excellent post and you all should be ashamed that you only posted with one letter without commenting, or without asking any questions. And feel free to ask reasonable questions, i can respond to them in the next update.
A, your friend would probably know what's going on considering the protagonist always happens to be horribly informed.
And why didn't Steve grab some MREs with him just in case? Unless he's not the magical backpacker and actually has to carry it.
I don't think he got any way to bring them with him, all I could get out from the last update was that he brough a swiss army knife, his lighter and a maglite flashlight.
Another question for you Cheesemonkey, which I'd like to have answered ;
(Thanks for the compliment by the way, I just feel that such a great CYOA that you are hosting requires good replies).
Does Steve use the car to get to his buddys house, or is he walking over there?

Why do you need MRE's? They're heavy and there's plenty of food at your house or other houses if worse comes to worse. Remember: this isn't some sort of magic end-of-the-world scenario. Buildings aren't in rubble and infrastructure is completely intact. The shit hasn't hit the fan yet, and it may not, but there's no need to panic and grab food/supplies when everything is still fairly normal.
A is probably the best choice. There is no need to rush to any evacuation centers until you have a buddy with you. It does seem like some shit is on fire, probably due to panic though. Yeah, it would be best to get a friend.

You get in your car and head to Hayes' house, following the road to buttfuck-nowhere that is his house. It's not far away, but the suburb is inconveniently located away from everything else. His house is across an unused field, what you assumed was a construction deal that fell through. You open the window and let the cool air flow into the car, oddly normal considering the situation at hand.
About 10 minutes into the drive, halfway, your car suddenly lurches forward as if something hit it. You look behind you and nothing's there. Instantly you see a dark blur move up and above your line of sight.

Whatever the hell that was, it's obviously not friendly. Would it be safer to slow down and maybe lose it, or speed the fuck up and leave it in the dust? maybe you should just cut across the field, not a very safe or comfortable option but probably doable. Or maybe it's just a big bird and the atmosphere got to your head, ahonking might scare it away.
