most of the time some female characters are hella sexy, but it's kind of a turn off when there is a good chance she can beat the living hell out of me
You see this with many nerd arts. Anime and comic books both have skinny women with big boobs. I dont know if this is a nerd thing or just a male thing though.
I dont see how it would be? Sure it's sexual, but I dont see how guys finding scantily clad women is sexist?
To me, I love it when the women are average, and not walking around in a tanktop and short shorts in a battlefield. And when their ass or tits jiggle for an half hour after they stopped moving.
Duke Nukem Land of the Babes. Nuff said.
What is wrong with a little tits and ass

Do you even know what feminism is?

Chell, no. Zoey... possibly.
TH89, I used to think I was pretty knowledgeable and progressive on the idea of women's rights, privilege, and portrayal in the media until I started reading your posts. I know so much more now than when I started. Thank you.

What's this supposed to mean? If it's supposed to mean that Valve did a good job making her attractive but not over sexualized, then I agree.
I believe that males are sexualized as much, no seriously think about it. Look at The GoW crew, or Chris Redfield. They're both extremly muscular, bad ass men who could probably go 45 times and then push one more out. How about fighting games? Almost every male will probably have muscles beyond belief. See where I'm going with this?
Uncharted is awesome and probably the best-written two games to come out in the past few years (and written by a woman, incidentally!). Don't get me wrong, I think Uncharted is really cool, and it does a good job imitating Indiana Jones. But Indiana Jones movies are pretty shallow and pulpy themselves. When are we going to see a game equivalent of Black Swan or Fiddler on the Roof or something like that? As it stands, the game industry as a whole is immature enough that a snappy, well-written pulp story is the best you can hope to get.
While this isn't really on topic to the thread...

I always though this game had an immersing story.

No most are badass. Most aren't "sexy". Yes most have muscles but like someone no one really finds any of the men from gears of war sexy.

Muscles are a prerequisite of fighting.
Ass cameras and skin tight latex suits aren't.

Let's put it this way. Video game characters are fit. Even if they don't have the muscles of the Duke or the characters in Gears of War, the heroes and heroines of video games are almost always very good-looking. Fitness is sexy. It's biological.
I wouldn't say many of the outfits women typically wear in video games are particularly sexist - they're just feminine - as the outfits that male characters wear are overtly masculine.
for example:

That's Jessica from SiN. I'd say that's a relatively tasteful outfit.

And there's Lara Croft. A little more showy - but that's not necessarily sexist - it's practical given all the climbing and vaulting she does, and it's typical of her personality - she's a sexual person, but still respectable.
The bottom line is that people who have fantastic bodies don't hide them. If you had big pecs, visible abs and big biceps, you could be forgiven for 'accidentally' wearing a t-shirt a size too small sometimes.
Now THIS:

Not quite so tasteful, for obvious reasons. I can't imagine a fighter wearing anything nearly that ridiculous - or having such a large bust.
Inb4 WWE, they aren't real fighters anyway.
LoL :downs:

But again many male characters are fit but not sexy (like in gears of war). Besides fit doesn't always = sexy especially since fit women have smaller breasts in real life then non fit ones. Im fit (I run and work out) But yet girls still say im not sexy. I mean I wouldn't mind games like bayonetta since it makes sense that she would be sexy but when every videogame female is sexy then theres a problem.
Is it wrong that I would want to have a game with an average or even ugly female in it? How about a fat person? I think it would be cool to play as a fat person especially since most games are shooters and while being fit is better when it comes to run and gunning there are still some fat soldiers and cops.

Okay, show me a few male main characters that are fit but not sexually appealing.
I never said female characters had to have big breasts to be sexually appealing - Fit females look pretty damn good whether with big tits or otherwise. Look at Lara's legs. Goddamn.
I'll just say that most male characters wear more than the equivalent of a loin cloth with gratuitous ass shots.

Not sure Deadpool counts - he's not the main character of any video games, and that's what this thread is about. I don't know who the middle guy is, but many people have a thing for grotesquely muscular people.
And as for Marcus Fenix, under that armor he's got a solid build, but not ridiculously so - he's pretty good-looking, even under all those scars. I know quite a few female gamers who love his looks - and Dom's.

Strangs all the girls I know think hes ugly. The middle guy is from street fighter and I counted deadpool since hes in a few videogames. Also im updating with other male characters. Even though Im not going to say there aren't male characters meant to be attractive though its just that males can be more things then just hot in videogames.
I'd really like to hear more of the female side of this.
What do female gamers and average women think about this sort of thing?
Also, my two cents in this topic-I like it when the female characters are realistic and interesting, but I certainly don't mind it when they're scantily clad, either. As long as they're not annoying I'm fine with 'em.
Nothing thats what

This whole thing is dumb
Would you all rather have a Male/Female Partner or person in a game with the Face and body of a Spitter?
I don't care too much about the look of the character but rather the personality.
I really can't help but bring up how good Valve is at making characters. I mean all there female characters wear fitting, appropriate clothes, and don't look like there designed to be sex godesess, but still come across as pretty damn good looking ;)
I mean Alyx is dressed normally, and looks great, Zoey is dressed normally, looks great. Chell is dressed how you would expect somebody kept in stasis for 30+ years, and looks... damn, way better then in portal 1 I'll say that much. Hell even Rochell is dressed normally for what you would expect and looks... Tolerable.
Point is, game companies could take quite a few pointers from Valve on good female character design.

Also 1 of Valves female character strong points, great character development. (I'm such a fanboy)
