Three things: -It's really easy to dismiss this kind of stuff when it's happening to other people. An inability to understand that not everyone shares your (white male) experience doesn't make you more rational or enlightened, just selfish and myopic. -Your revolutionary new suggestion of "have you considered the status quo?" is neither of those things. Women and racial minorities have been considering your point of view their entire lives because you are dominant and it's thrust upon them at every opportunity. Amazingly enough, some of them aren't content with being second class citizens! -Lastly, your argument that "it's never going to change so get used to it" has been used to stifle criticism of segregation, slavery, limited suffrage, and down the line pretty much every systematic injustice in the history of humanity. All of those things HAVE changed, and they've changed because people thought they were wrong and said and did something about it. Yes, there were people like you who said it was pointless and they should just get used to being treated shittier than you and that they were "crying crocodile tears" but guess what? They won anyway.
Bravo, man, just bravo. That was marvelous.
I think Faith is a pretty good rendition of a realistic female. [img_thumb]http://www.e-chan.be/wp-content/flagallery/mycosplay/faith/6a011016751ced860d01101649e4c2860c-150wi.png[/img_thumb] Not very pretty, although not really ugly. She doesn't have breasts so large that they form their own gravity field, and her pants don't make her ass stand out more than the sun. And her waist actually looks like it holds bone, muscle and organs. And yet she is a perfectly likeable character.
You may find this interesting: http://m.kotaku.com/5099050/faith-is-not-a-12-year+old-with-a-boob-job (the developers comments are also a great example of how positive change IS possible, even in the games industry)
I vote we forbid people from depicting or describing humans in any form of media, whether it be movies, books, comics or videogames, and instead replace all characters with non-offending white spheres that speak with genderless robot voices.
"Why should these uppity blackies get the right to vote? It's always been this way, it's never going to change, so just get used to it." @V12US Not trying to be a ass, but could you please go fuck yourself with a ladle? Some people like the sexy girls we know and love. For valve fans, it's Zoey, or for minges, it's Alyx being fucked by a combine with a thruster attached to his ass.

Because not writing racist and sexist characters is like, sooo hard you guys :qq: [editline]10th May 2011[/editline]
I don't play video games so I can see realistically portrayed characters, male or female. I can go outside if I wanted to see real people. I play games to feel like a macho badass as I'm mowing down thousands of enemies or play as a sexy scantily clad woman so I can stare at her ass as I'm mowing down thousands of enemies.
Good thing you have video games to help you forget that women are actual people?

unironic use of 'minge'
unironic use of 'minge'
It's impressive how 14 year olds can fuck up the english language, isn't it?
Good thing you have video games to help you forget that women are actual people?
Good thing I have videogames to forget that I can die in real life
Good thing I have videogames to forget that I can die in real life
Not sure where you're going with this. People like feeling invulnerable, so this is catered to in entertainment. People like dehumanizing women, so...
"Female game characters, sexist or not?" Sexy.
"Female game characters, sexist or not?" Sexy.
"Sexy? What's wrong with being sexy?"
People like dehumanizing women, so...
What, NO. People like sexy bodies. Has nothing with dehumanizing them. Jeez.
[img_thumb]http://scenteddemented.com/MULLETS/spinal-tap.jpg[/img_thumb] "Sexy? What's wrong with being sexy?"
Nothin at all my handsome friend.
What, NO. People like sexy bodies. Has nothing with dehumanizing them. Jeez.
Portraying someone's physical attractiveness as their only relevant or worthwhile attribute is dehumanizing them, yes. Giving them no significant role other than to be looked at by male players is dehumanizing, yes. Would you like it if all your FPS games had male sidekicks who ran around in speedos all the time? You seem really invested in pushing this false dichotomy of "well it's sexy do you want it to be NOT sexy?!" when it's way off base. I linked Firefly before. It's a show written by a feminist that manages to be badass, cool, funny, and sexy. There are other things like it. "Not sexist" does not equal "not sexy" and it certainly doesn't equal "not fun."
Porn is sexist.
A lot of it is, what's your point?
Also I would not like men in speedos because I am not gay, not because I find it offensive.
Aaaand here we are. Surprise: not everyone who plays games is a straight male. By encouraging games to cater exclusively to straight males, you are contributing to the marginalization of everyone who isn't one. Imagine again how you would feel if every game you played was full of airheaded men in speedos wiggling their butts around when they walked. That's how lots of women feel playing games. (plus constant verbal abuse in multiplayer)
Porn is sexist. Also I would not like men in speedos because I am not gay, not because I find it offensive.
Except that the main point of porn is sexual gratification. This is not the case in video games.
Political correctness/feminism/racism/etc all that stuff annoys me if I play a game set in the past that has a feature of it removed in order to be politically correct. Like Germany and China getting mad at Hearts of Iron for including certain flags/nations or removing slavery in Empire Total war and pretending that it never happened.
Feminism isn't really about or the same as political correctness.
I mean when they complain about it in games and want it removed. If everybody were listened to every game would be shit.
Political correctness is a slur created by conservatives to use against anyone who tries to challenge their bigotry. It worked pretty well.
Imagine again how you would feel if every game you played was full of airheaded men in speedos wiggling their butts around when they walked. But if they were men, I personally wouldn't care. I am not scared of a man's ass. Snake wiggles his ass all the time. And verbal abuse? That's not exclusive to females.
I mean when they complain about it in games and want it removed. If everybody were listened to every game would be shit.
Tell me more about games need to be bigoted to be fun.
Except that the main point of porn is sexual gratification. This is not the case in video games.
Looking at a hot ass on the street isn't either.
Looking at a hot ass on the street isn't either.
Right, but you can't really control what's going on "on the street". You can in a video game. [editline]10th May 2011[/editline]
I mean when they complain about it in games and want it removed. If everybody were listened to every game would be shit.
They complain about wanting sexism removed -> Game becomes shit? How does that work exactly?
I don't really see women wiggling their asses all the time in games. But if they were men, I personally wouldn't care. I am not scared of a man's ass. Snake wiggles his ass all the time.
I have a hard time believing you would be totally fine with male game characters being dressed and characterized the way women are. Not least because it would be ridiculous and stupid. But if you were, you'd definitely be in the minority.
And verbal abuse? That's not exclusive to females.
The kind I linked to largely is, yeah.
Right, but you can't really control what's going on "on the street". You can in a video game.
Agree here. Looking at ass should be optional. Games need more interactive cutscenes like hl2. [editline]10th May 2011[/editline]
I have a hard time believing you would be totally fine with male game characters being dressed and characterized the way women are. He shows ass all the time. Sam in earlier splinter games sometimes show some ass in his tight suit too. As for verbal abuse, that has nothing to do with games really, just stupid virgin community. If you're a female, you get called a bitch, if you're a guy, you get called gay. That's nothing new.
