So what hardships have you undergone that are comparable to the years and years of continuous discrimination that women and ethnic minorities have suffered?
I never said they directly comparable. However, the problems I have faced were quite difficult in relation to my current standard of living. Hell my family lives on a paycheck to paycheck basis simply so that me and my siblings could go to a private school and get a better education. We're covered in debt and we can't afford many luxuries, but we have a nice house and we're doing our best. Yeah sure i'm not starving, but when you compare it to people of my socio-economic status, I'm pretty much at the bottom. Tell me, have you ever had problems in your life? By your reasoning, you have never had a single problem because you're not impoverished and discriminated against. Everybody has problems, and before you misinterpret this, women and ethnic minorities still have it worse regardless. I am only pointing out that you can't just trivialize everyone's problems.
"i go to private school and my parents have to work to support us! what is this hellish existence" hint: you have no problems that are not angsty white teen bullshit [editline]12th May 2011[/editline] Also I am a white working class male teenager with no money and we probably have to move out of our house soon because our savings are going to run out about two years. I never went to ~private school~ or had a ~nice house~. Despite my problems (which are far worse than yours you upper-class idiot) I am entirely aware that my own problems are nowhere near those that minorities suffer in our society.

My problems are no where as bad as the problems of those who suffer much worse hardships. Stop using ad hominems, tell me why my problem should be trivialized. I never said it was a hellish existence, I'm merely pointing out that in my current surroundings and environment, I have much worse than most of those around me.
So basically you are upset because nobody made a thread about your fucking stupid first-world problems.
She's got the physique of a supermodel and her armour is molded right almost skintight. She is also wearing crotchless armour. That is still sexualising her, there's just less pink stuff.
There's no pleasing you guys. Hence why most devs just slap some slutty clothing and big tits. Because if they try to add some armor, people complain anyway. Why bother. Also most males don't have crotch armor either because it looks lame as fuck. Videogames don't really try to be historically accurate or realistic. Physique of a supermodel? Well aren't all stereotypical medieval princesses supermodels? Mario isn't saving a fat royal pig after all.
So basically you are upset because nobody made a thread about your fucking stupid first-world problems.
No, I'm just annoyed that first-world problems are instantly trivialized. Everybody has problems, some are worse than others, but you can't just say that some problems aren't worth mentioning.
No, I'm just annoyed that first-world problems are instantly trivialized. Everybody has problems, some are worse than others, but you can't just say that some problems aren't worth mentioning.
First-world problems are instantly trivialized cause they're not worth mentioning in comparison to bigger problems. Sure, your mom had to live paycheck to paycheck to send you to a private school which isn't the nicest thing in the world but there's millions of people living paycheck to paycheck because they work a shitty job and have no hope of changing that because of various factors that they can't control.
No, I'm just annoyed that first-world problems are instantly trivialized. Everybody has problems, some are worse than others, but you can't just say that some problems aren't worth mentioning.
If you have problems, buy your way out. That's what you rich people do.
Not sure if I'm lucky guy or what, but when I go out in streets, all girls wear miniskirts, small T-shirts showing almost everything... Seems like they're doing everything to attract opposite sex. Also, when you try to make obvious female model, you need to make it obvious. That means not only nice face and long hair. Especially most games are oriented around combat = armor/uniform, mostly male stuff. So when you take these facts...

Oh look, TH89 in a thread about discrimination.

The developers were the ones who decided to make her into a princess so the blame lies with them.
This is the 'it's justified in universe therefore it's allowed' argument again. The developers were the ones who decided to make her into a princess so the blame lies with them.
Why? Are developers no longer allowed to make princesses that are beautiful and should instead make princesses only based on historical accuracy? Then by this logic nazi zombies and all other fun games loosely based on history should be redone to be more right. It's a game, no boob is even showing, nothing sexist, no one is getting hurt. I can't tell if you're even serious on this one. Having no crotch guard is sexist how? More like historically inaccurate, but not sexist. If you think that design somehow dehumanizes women, then it's you who is sexist, not the developers.
your title is ironic
your title is ironic
I know, but it has nothing to do with my post. If it's ironic and my post is bad quality, explain why. How is that armor sexist? The trailer in deus ex3 was sexist too, it showed a sexy manchest
She's got the physique of a supermodel and her armour is molded right almost skintight. She is also wearing crotchless armour. That is still sexualising her, there's just less pink stuff.
she's got the physique of a supermodel (no she doesn't she's thin and that's about it) because some women do her armor is almost skintight because that's how a woman's suit of armor (and often men's armor) usually was her armor is crotchless because that's how armor is, she just happens to be wearing regular clothes underneath it instead of chainmail.
How is it sexist? It's not saying all girls are like the girls in video games. Saying that video game characters are a sexist representation is like saying porn is sexist. As far as raising aesthetic expectations go though...
As far as raising aesthetic expectations go though...
Anime is worse about that than games
Anime is worse about that than games
Do more people read manga or play video games? That is an honest question.
Do more people read manga or play video games? That is an honest question.
anime and manga is probably about equal
Starcraft? WH40K? Hell, most fantasy games have bulky over weighted armor by the end of the game for men and little to nothing for women. Probably why I like Oblivion better :v:
For the record starcraft is relatively awful with female characters and their characterisation. It's a bit better in SC2 but when you consider sc1 and BW The two females in power fall to the big bad. All other women have noncombat roles and no chance of becoming someone in power. The issue is, that games do indeed cater to a straigh teen male gamer. Then you have people crying about how few other groups seem to enjoy gaming, completely bypassing the fact that the games are often demeaning to them. Either by the female always show far more skin than any other male character or by being a doormat in need of constant rescue. There's another problem - often enough when a series starts of with a powerful female, every incremental title seems to send her more into sexy bimbo territory. Metroid being a pretty good example. Lastly, there's an issue that if you can make a completely custom player character you often can't make a female one or at least one dressed sensibly.
[img_thumb]http://www.freewebs.com/platx/Jill_Valentine.jpg[/img_thumb] :)
Her breasts are too big, therefore interfere with her duties and are sexist. [editline]12th May 2011[/editline]
Anime is worse about that than games
Lets not start about japan. There "sexism" doesn't exist.
Lets not start about japan. There "sexism" doesn't exist.
that is silly
She's got the physique of a supermodel and her armour is molded right almost skintight. She is also wearing crotchless armour. That is still sexualising her, there's just less pink stuff.
Think you might be grasping at straws here, mate. That's really no different from tons of armor that males wear in fantasy games.
Final Fantasy usually ends up nose diving into this. Biggest example? Easy. Let's take a look at a character that appeared in two games and vastly changed between the two.
If you have problems, buy your way out. That's what you rich people do.
Whatever, you're just skimming my posts. Had you read my posts you wouldn't have posted this drivel. I said I wasn't rich in comparison to my peers who are of similar socio-economic status. You're just generalising at this point and it ruins the credibility you had. Anyway, I've derailed this for long enough.
