There's a reason for it, the other ff was beach based
So what you are saying is that women can't go to a beach without being expected to wear bikinis?
Is it really hard to model loose clothing for women in 3D modelling? Every video games have that
So what you are saying is that women can't go to a beach without being expected to wear bikinis?
No, I'm saying that when people go to beach, they usually wear swimming clothes.
Yeah, developers are men too.
almost certainly been posted before but the most sexist character i've come across is rachel from ninja gaiden (can't remember which) now while characters like her exist in vast majority theres plenty of good games out there without sexist characters (big sister from bioshock 2, maria from assasins creed, lilith from borderlands and the various females from half life) to name but a few
Wasn't there some God of War rip-off that was essentially God of War but Kratos was replaced with a redhead chick that has large boobies?

Who will play an ugly female character?

I'm on the edge whether to consider Lilith oversexualized or not. About other games, I'd say Pokémon doesn't have anything oversexualized. It's designed for kids, though.
Lots of straight males have a modicum of respect for women and don't try to look up their skirt at every opportunity. That you think that's totally normal and justifiable is kind of unsettling.
No, I think you're missing my point. At one point in time, you will take a second glance at an attractive female, no matter how much respect you have for them. I'm not saying it's decent or classy to do it, I'm just saying that it happens anyway. Besides, I'm really on your side. I was just defending the MGS series. I don't think they're as sexist as some people claim it to be. Apart from the beauties in MGS4 (that was p much an easter egg anyway, the photo shoot i mean). Also, I kind of take offense that you assume that I just stare at every attractive girl I come across. I'm not that much of a douche.
Is there anything wrong at looking at beautiful women? It doesn't make any sense to not look at something beautiful.
Well, I agree with you, but I think what TH89 means is that girl's really don't appreciate it, and thus you should not look at them. I really only turn my head if someone with a very skimpy outfit walks by me (summertime, woo).
Is there anything wrong at looking at beautiful women? It doesn't make any sense to not look at something beautiful.
I'm pretty that's already been addressed in this thread. Harping on it will serve no purpose.
No, I'm saying that when people go to beach, they usually wear swimming clothes.
The game even when it doesn't show skin makes every female way to attractive. While in videogames males can be fat, old or even ugly females are always young, skinny and attractive.
I'm probably going to get some flak for this, but I still don't see the appeal of Alyx Vance, she's not even all that attractive.
She's one of the most human characters I've seen in a videogame. Same with Elena Fischer and Chloe from Uncharted. [editline]12th May 2011[/editline]
What the fuck, why would they waste so many perfectly good straps? [editline]12th May 2011[/editline] Hence why no one plays as female in vanilla oblivion
The guys don't look any better.
I'm probably going to get some flak for this, but I still don't see the appeal of Alyx Vance, she's not even all that attractive.
And thats the thing. A female character doesnt have to have double Ds in order to be a good character.
And thats them thing. A female character doesnt have to have double Ds in order to be a good character.
Alyx did have a nice ass, but it wasn't obnoxious either.
i don't understand sexual attraction to videogame characters like i've never felt sexually arroused by soul calibur or half-life 2 i didn't look at alyx's ass even once
i don't understand sexual attraction to videogame characters like i've never felt sexually arroused by soul calibur or half-life 2 i didn't look at alyx's ass even once
I didn't notice until later when I started liking her character more.
I didn't notice until later when I started liking her character more.
So you slowly fell sexually in love with her because of non sexual things? weird. But isnt the reason why we try to make deep female characters so you can do other things besides star at there body?

All of a sudden I wish to slumber in love.
No, I think you're missing my point. At one point in time, you will take a second glance at an attractive female, no matter how much respect you have for them. I'm not that much of a douche.
This has nothing to do with what you, personally, do in real life, nor is it an attack on you. You're defending a game that has a built in mechanism for looking up a female character's skirt with the excuse that "guys look at girls it's normal!" No, these specific things are not something a normal person would do, and are a creepy and unnecessary thing to put in an action game.
I never said that I thought that institutional racism wasn't a big deal. It is, its a huge problem, but my problem was that it seemed as if you were generalising an entire demographic. Just because I'm part of that demographic does not mean I act like that.
Please stop trying to cast yourself as a victim here. All anyone has done is point out that just because you don't think something sexist or racist is "that bad" doesn't mean you're right, and that your privileged position makes many things that don't happen to you seem less bad than they are. It's not about you.
Uh, dressing in short skirt and cleavage and not wanting men to look at you? Does not compute.
You realize this is the same rationale people use for justifying rape, right? What you're saying here pretty much boils down to "unless a woman dresses according to standards I set for her, I don't need to respect her rights as a person." I don't get how you're trying to equate doing a double-take at an attractive woman and coding creepy ogling and x-ray-through-clothes minigames into a mainstream action title. Those are like, planets apart. [editline]13th May 2011[/editline]
There's a reason for it, the other ff was beach based
This is also a pretty silly rationalization. What is "beach-based?" It's not a volleyball game, they're fighting goddamn monsters: They have to wear bikinis because they're fighting giant crab monsters in a coastal area? Second, a scarf, gloves, boots, and a miniskirt with weird combat packs on it are not beach wear. Third, none of the other characters are wearing swimwear anyway (although a lot of their costumes are equally flimsy).
I love me some female characters.
I'm on the edge whether to consider Lilith oversexualized or not.
A good way to start is by trying to imagine one of these characters in a Hollywood movie. Not a ridiculous pulpy thing like Machete, but something that's meant to be taken seriously.
