Not a ridiculous pulpy thing like Machete, but something that's meant to be taken seriously.
borderlands itself is pretty borderline pulpy and it's art is the only thing to truly be praised.
borderlands itself is pretty borderline pulpy and it's art is the only thing to truly be praised.
Pretty much every game ever made is borderline pulpy.
So are you excited for Duke Nukem: Forever?
Kind of, but a lot of what I've seen looks really clunky and awkward. I'm hoping it'll be good but it's got impossibly high expectations to live up to at this point, and I worry a lot of people are going to be disappointed. I haven't seen anything that makes me think "HOLY SHIT SO AWESOME," just some goofy jokes and 90s FPS throwback gameplay.
mona sax from the first max payne was pretty much not sexualized at all she wasn't even a damsel in distress, she just got shot in the head a lot like max payne though in max payne 2 i think she got breast implants or something

But You're still missing my point. I said that it was the character, Snake, looking up her skirt. The "r1" button is optional even. If I don't press it, I get a close-up of Snake's face. That's my choice. Snake chose to look up her skirt. You could judge kojima for being sexist, and I'm certain he is to some extent, but Snake is still HIS character. He could've made him a furry rapist (although that wouldn't have sold many games) if he wanted to, because he's the one making the story. Thanks to the whole first-person "r1-button" thing, the player can still choose to look up her skirt or not. Snake did, because he (Kojima) chose to do so. Not only that, but Kojima also infused a usable game mechanic in this. Snake's Stress level descends when he get a chance to look at a cleavage etc, or in the beginning off the game, where he squeezes off a round from a brand new m4. If you're playing on the harder difficulty settings, and don't want to use recovery items to bring down stress levels (you get cool awards), this is actually pretty vital to keep your stress levels down(as snake becomes nearly uncontrollable otherwise). [editline]13th May 2011[/editline] I wouldn't say it's "unneccessary". I can agree if you think it's creepy and tasteless, and yes, it could've been executed better. But I think it's ok because it adds to the man that is Snake, describes one of his less tasteful traits, and builds on the story some. And as I mentioned earlier, since the player can choose to look up the skirt or not, it's really not THAT sexist.
snake is not a real person
snake is not a real person
where at all did g-strogg imply that? seriously i have no idea how you inferred that from his post. he clearly states that snake is kojima's creation and therefore everything he does is down to kojima's work.
snake is not a real person
But it makes him feel more real that he has flaws too.
Pretty much every game ever made is borderline pulpy.
none of the elder scrolls games are particularly pulpy.

"It's okay because that's part of Snake's character that Kojima created to be like that" Yeah, Kojima is a creep then. But Snake is also a player avatar who the player is supposed to relate to and assume the role of. That's how games work. "It's okay because you have to do it to keep your stress levels down to control Snake better" So, Kojima not only included pointless creepy minigames but made it so that the player is penalized for not playing them, and THAT makes it okay? That makes it worse! :psyduck: "It's okay because Snake is Kojima's character and Kojima can do what he wants" Yeah, nobody's disputing that. "Birth of a Nation" was D.W. Griffith's film and he was allowed to depict the characters how he wanted, that doesn't mean it wasn't racist as shit. Just because he CAN do what he wants doesn't mean he SHOULD, and it certainly doesn't mean people shouldn't call him out when he does things that are wrong.
Bro the stress levels go down whether you "play" the minigame or not. But yeah ok I got to give it to you. I'm just going to back down now. By the way, play MGS it's a p good game series. I mean very good. [editline]14th May 2011[/editline] Oh and also IMO Snake would be boring if his only role in the game would be being the angsty legendary super-soldier. [editline]14th May 2011[/editline] Also, TH89, you have to excuse me for asking, but I find you're very passionate for this, and I wonder; Are you pursuing that women should have a bigger place in society, or just complete equality between genders?
Laughing Octopus from Metal Gear Solid 4, in real life: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v47Szs--tDI but in MGS4, she has short hair, and Snake is not allowed to see her undressed. However, you can either mess around with her, where she jumps Snake in bed, or shoot her to death: If Kojima was that perverted, I am sure Laughing Octopus would have had long hair in game, and maybe possibility to strip the other female enemies, however you can still give them a pat down, I can't figure out if Snake is a pervert or not, especially when he kills Frog ladies, yet will grab their breasts during a pat down, that they scream "ah! you!" "perv" "stop that" "what the" "you men are all the same" Snake grabbing the FROG ladies boobs was not Snake's choice, but Hideo forcing him to do so. Maybe Hideo was just trying to be funny with pervert obsession, but considering the easter eggs in Sons of Liberty Whether if Hideo is a pervert or not, references were only made, but you never saw or really got to do anything, until: Guess that is kind of shocking.
I can agree if you think it's creepy and tasteless, and yes, it could've been executed better. I remember the romance scene in MGS3, but that did not disturb me. Whether something like Metal Gear is sexist or not, I have not been able to figure out that answer myself either way : (
Well sexist or not, it comes down to perspective. If you pursue total equality amongst men and women, then yes, mgs4 is sexist.
Well sexist or not, it comes down to perspective. If you pursue total equality amongst men and women, then yes, mgs4 is sexist.
Dat old man ass. [editline]14th May 2011[/editline] Eugh right, Vamp.
Good thing you have video games to help you forget that women are actual people?
I have enough sense to realize that the women depicted in generic video games are not even close to how women really are. Just because I play games with over sexualized female characters doesn't mean I'm going to go out into the real world and treat girls just the same. I like playing games because it gets me away from the real world, a place where I can kick back and relax. Personally, I feel that anyone does treat real women as "sex dolls" or "things to stare at" needs to get a life. I feel the same for people who don't see the difference between fantasized women and women in real life.
Unless Alyx stopped shooting at the Combine and started washing dishes, no, they are not sexist.
About other games, I'd say Pokémon doesn't have anything oversexualized. It's designed for kids, though.
Man, I remember growing up with Pokemon. I also remember wondering what the hell was up with Misty. Granted, I was mostly confused about the silly hairstyle and suspenders back then, but I did find it rather odd later that my monster-fightan series had a ten year old sporting daisy dukes.
OP is in my university course. I can tell because I'm doing the same essay. Sucks ass.
Sexism in msg is understandable, it's from japan after all.
IMO It would only be sexist if you're playing a game where all female characters get reduced health and speed and shit.
OP is in my university course. I can tell because I'm doing the same essay. Sucks ass.
I do film in southampton solent mate
Tara Strickland from Crysis 2 has a nice proper military outfit. [img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/2011-05-14_000021.jpg[/img_thumb] You might argue that she doesn't have kevlar on, but neither does Commander Lockhart. Or Colonel Barclay.
SOCOM 4 seems to have a very unsexualized female character, I mean she's dressed up in the same gear as the guys sooooo.
SOCOM 4 seems to have a very unsexualized female character, I mean she's dressed up in the same gear as the guys sooooo.
Well, because it's meant to resemble realism.
Well, because it's meant to resemble realism.
Just saying, hell, SOCOM in general doesn't seem to over-sexualize women from what I've seen.
