It wouldn't even make sense anyway. Feminists did 9/11. The WTC towers were phallic symbols of male superiority.
Are you a 9/11 conspiracy feminist?
The planes were phallic symbols of patriarchy trying to bring down the towers for standing tall and proud.
The twins were too tall and large, they made all the smaller structures seem insignificant. It had to happen.
what was this thread about again?

In Valve games women are represented in as good light as possible (intelligent often, strong and not exactly the most feminine - see Portal, Half Life 2) - The female citizens are very desexualized in Half Life 2 and somewhat more realistic.
Same can be said within the Halo universe with female marines.
In the majority of other video games they are gun waving half naked women with big boobs.

Racing game cars are upset that they're always being portrayed as speed demons with no regard at all for the environment or the safety of human lives.

Well, it was a gameplay element added to create a psychological sense of urgency in most of the male gamers who played through it, yes.
To be honest most video game characters are just fantasy's, it works both fucking ways. The concept that Female characters are damaging to real women is nonsense, we see male characters we see they embody ridiculous traits too. the good looks of Drake and the muscles of Feenix for example, and Duke.

hey we've gone over this a grillion times read the last page
well sexism specifically means a hatred of women and generally it doesn't come across in an entire game because a large group of people work on them
but if you like look at like fan written story shit, that's where the sexism does come across
either way games still have a long time to go in terms of character development
Wrong, I'm afraid. Misogyny is a hatred of women. Sexism is discrimination based on gender, and one that is commonly found in video games of every genre, especially fantasy mmorpgs and fighting games.
If a male character is wearing a ton of metal armor and the female character is wearing something that more closely resembles a string bikini, that's sexism by literal definition.
I recommend the fitting episodes of Extra Credits on The Escapist and the YouTube videos from kirithem on YouTube. I'll let you have the fun of googling.
There's of course these and those characters in games. In general you'll find that the more fleshed out characters of a game are in general, the less objectifying you'll find. There's objectifying on both gender sides, but since the gaming industry is heavily male-dominated, you'll find more objectified women among certain games.
I have to agree with Extra Credits/kirithem (same guy, different videos on The Escapist and YouTube) that games as an art medium are still in its infancy because a) with ye olde technology you were able to pull off some classics, but Super Mario Brothers or The Legend of Zelda were never known for their in-depth characters or story arcs and b) storytelling in games works quite a bit different from other mediums, so finding a good writer is hard. Even if you can snatch one with good reputation, you'll still most likely end up with the important bits of the story taking place in cutscenes rather than... sorry, I digress.
I'm probably babbling too much again, but it's important that no angle of this situation is easy or simple. If a male chooses a female character in World of Masscraft Effect, it can be because of what 107295 told you, it can be because he just doesn't give a fuck, it can be because he values the escapist value of games and wants to become someone completely different in this fantasy world. If you generalize people, you'll end up with a simple essay and simple solutions, but also something flat, boring and uninformative.
If you really wanna know more about this from me, send me a PM, otherwise I'll end with
TL;DR:
Everyone can be sexist, videogame industry is full of males; videogame stories and characters in general are often lacking (in favor of gameplay).

well that would be sex discrimination i mean misogyny is part of sexism

Women are just as sexist as men, which is no suprise, because humans are sexual creatures. We have sex. We have genitals, and we are not afraid to use them. People who whine about sexism just need to get laid.
Sirius giggled as he leaned over to Harry. "Want to see me cast this new spell I learned, Harry? It's called Coitus Oralus". Harry blushed: "No, we can't do this! You're my uncle, it's wrong!". He knew it was wrong, but he had seen this night happen in his dreams, and deep inside there was nothing he wanted more...
Oh you silly women and your lemon yaoi fanfics.
Holy shit you're right.
Twilight is sexist towards men.
I shall start a menninist group ASAP.

uhh i don't think you understand the meaning of sexism (sexism isn't "being sexually attracted to someone")

Just yanking your chain, man. ;p
And I wasn't aware we were collecting points. I'm actually moving next week, and I need boxes to store my stuff.
Meanwhile we can accept that male dominated media have sexy ladies, and female dominated media have sexy men. Neither is sexist, it's just catering to common interest.

A little of column A, a little of column B...
If a game that has some women with balloon boobs is sexist, then what about all the porn? Isn't that sexist?
And there isn't even that many games with important females in them that appear on screen for more than 5 minutes.
I still don't get it, how is portraying a woman in a different manner sexist? Is it sexist that someone likes big boobs and someone doesn't?
Also what, women don't like to look sexy?
Who had to be RESCUED.
Well, the male gunner did die in the crash, and she did surprisingly well holding off those Soldiers with just an MP5, sooo
TBH I don't know about you guys, but I always run around with rippling muscles and glorious 6 pack abs, shooting guns and rescuing girls with my perfectly trimmed stubble and handsome chiseled features....... not really...
I don't think the portrayal of women is generally any worse than the male stereotypes or any worse than other forms of media like films or books. It's all generally a load of aspirational bs, designed around the target audience, isn't everything these days?
Video games perfectly portray men like POWDERED TOAST MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
Well females are the weaker sex. Not weaker physically or mentally, just "weaker". It's a man's duty to save them when they're in need.
Men also save men, so what? Women save men too. Does that suddenly make someone sexist?
I dont give a damn about gender. The story revolves around the protagonist. If he or she can portray the story good enough, it would be good
[editline]9th May 2011[/editline]
Female characters like Jill valentine and Chell are good example of female protagonist

making a female character attractive isn't sexist. giving a female character no personality and no clothing in a situation that usually calls for it is. having a female character who's sole defining trait is "love interest" is

So sex dolls are sexist? And by that logic all porn is sexist too.
