Very interesting discussion going on here. *knock knock* *runs away*
sexist? or sexy. [editline]9th May 2011[/editline]
So sex dolls are sexist? And by that logic all porn is sexist too.
sex dolls are, porn not so much.
It doesn't really bother me, I mean the men are usually much more masculine and muscular than your average guy anyway so it's not like it's only women who are portrayed unrealistically.
Ok, with all this said here's another point to think about. With the increase on female gamers and game designers (and I know that we all know they're out there) over the last decade, do you think the image has changed or will change for women? Or will it still be a male based audience for female characters. I say this ofcourse meaning, will it still either be damsells in distress or female protagonists who still wear tight revealing clothes.
Yes.
As a general rule if the game is Asian, the female characters will be two-dimensional eye candy. I can't tell if Japan as a whole is just sexist or if the major game developers there that are creepy as hell.
I don't usually mind when games have women in, no matter how they look. I just hate stuff like this: Fucksake if I wanted to stare at her arse I'd walk behind her for the whole game, but I'm infront of her.
Also character design. That uniform rides up her arse a bit much to be comfortable.

*Looking at, not so keen on talking to or having them talk in fact gag them and tie them up in a glass box and have them eat their own shit. Ryu-Gi owns all the JRPGs companies. It makes so much sense now.
Name one jrpg where something like that happens?
4chan: The Game
4chan: The Game
Not japanese
Well, it was a gameplay element added to create a psychological sense of urgency in most of the male gamers who played through it, yes.
I think the sense of urgency would have been the same if it had been a man, at least they gave a woman an honourable role.
How come producers seem to think that "strong woman" means "incredibly agressive and speaks in nothing but sexual innuendos"?
I'm currently doing a research paper on how female game characters are represented and I was wondering how people actually feel about female game characters. Have they actually changed over the years or are we still looking at something that appeals to the male gaze? Are the stereotypical ideologies of women being put into console and computer games or are we looking at more equal rights. Is it laura croft, or "dead of alive", extreme beach volley ball is more of the question simply.
Samus is the least sexist , for the first game you had no idea it was even a woman in the suit. ( Excluding M:OM + SSBM )
-snip-
Some games even it out, having unrealistic male and female characters. In Street Fighter, you have people like Cammy who jump around in a leotard, Chun-Li with her thunder-thighs, and then you have muscular Ryu and Zangeif.

I play strategy games, which are the most gender equal games because the way the soldiers sound, move and look is disturbing regardless of gender.
How come producers seem to think that "strong woman" means "incredibly agressive and speaks in nothing but sexual innuendos"?
That's because "Strong man" is exactly the same thing. Nukem, anyone?

if you were hunting for treasure in the amazon while fighting tigers and getting shot then it's not really the best thing to put on OFF! and hope for the best

I would like soul calibur a little better if the female characters weren't crammed in just to give lonely greasy nerds something to jack off to I can almost guarantee that three games from now Hilde, the most conservatively clothed female character in the game, will have grown breasts that are larger than her head and be wearing less than is generally considered proper combat attire
