Wasn't Hollywood highly influenced by Canadians?
Uh what
Do you honestly only see European culture when you look at the United States?
Are we talking about the same country here? Mexico below it, Canada above it (and...uhhh..next to it)?
Spanish and British/French in respect. America is a hodge podge of cultures, although it has slowly being developing its own, as have Canada and Mexico. But it must be acknowledged that its roots lie in the original colonists and their country's of origin. I would add the Native populations, although they are sadly insignificant.

The ultimate irony here is that his nation has likely been more influenced by the United States through our mass export of media, than ours has by his.
"Other places take their culture from other places."
[editline]9th February 2011[/editline]
If you're trying to disprove the claim that the USA just borrows culture from elsewhere and has nothing original, giving examples of cases where the USA is doing just that is not the way to go.
I don't think he means what you think he means. You'd be right if he said
"other places take all their culture from other places"
The ultimate irony here is that his nation has likely been more influenced by the United States through our mass export of media, than ours has by his.
:shobon:
Not really. My country doesn't come from another continent, and doesn't use all of its architecture and traditions.
Basically, there are only two influenced things, partially TV media and Gaming.
Buy an AK-47 for the price of a PS2, time to play some Call of Duty IRL.
:shobon:
Not really.
And you don't even realize it because that is how media works, kiddo. Hollywood is more effective than any army at invading a nation and altering its culture.

I assume your referring to film, television and music including literature. This is somewhat untrue, as although many European countries watch american television, film and read books authored by american novelists they still have a massive local television, film and literary media collection. France in particular springs to mind in having a massive local media collection.
I don't think he means what you think he means. You'd be right if he said

True, he didn't explicitly state it. Hence why I used the wording "[he's] suggesting".

Enjoy freedoms that aren't available in other countries, like the right to carry a weapon, the right to speak freely, and the right to drive on the right side of the road.

Poland however has virtually zero presence inside the United States and yet I imagine they still see American films and television like everyone else.

Most nations drive on the right side of the road.

Hehe, you don't even know from which country I am, in which I am living in, and yet are telling me that it is influenced? And it actually also works in the opposite, Hollywood is easily influenced, by any other country, culture or continent.
OP, have you planned where exactly you will be going?
Hehe, you don't even know from which country I am, in which I am living in, and yet are telling me that it is influenced? And it actually works the opposite, Hollywood is easily influenced, by any other country, culture or continent.
Poland.
Poland.
That's where I am, not where I'm from. And I have lived in many different places, which are in many different countries. A person doesn't realize many thing until he hasn't lived outside his home country.
And I was not talking about Poland, which is also, except partially the Television, barely influenced by any other countries.
Also, the knowledge of knowing where I am, doesn't mean that you know how it is.
Poland however has virtually zero presence inside the United States and yet I imagine they still see American films and television like everyone else.
Naturally you choose a country in eastern Europe, many country's of which are only recently being exposed to outside media and are hungry for other sources of media other then their own.
Placing in quotes so it doesn't take up too much space.

Gunfox is totally right. Has anybody who is arguing with him ever actually been in America for longer than a few weeks on holiday? America might have once had a very distinct mix of cultures from all around the world. But that was in the 1800s. You still see it today but its not as obvious since the regions in America such as the south have created its own culture.
And how can you argue with us about our OWN country? If I say something you completely disagree with about what country you come from then sure, I would expect you have the better judgement on your OWN country. Seeing as all we need is experience to argue with people on this subject about our own country's cultures, you haveno solid position to argue with us about it!
And just for a note, I am temporarily living in England for 4 years. Travelled to Germany, Austria, France, Belgium and Luxembourg with family. I have an idea of what its like here and I still will say, your opinion has stronger backing then mine when it comes to your own country. But in my own opinion, Europe has been heavily influenced by America. After studying European History and American History, I see how much each country has changed. America isn't at all like Europe any more and Europe hardly looks like Ye ol' Europe any more.
Moral of the story: Things change with time.
ON TOPIC:
What you need to do is experience the REAL culture. Don't follow the ads or the billboards. Find or ask around for great little mom and pop businesses. Those kind of places have the real authenticity. Avoid going to Hispanic restaurants that seem like they are shiny, popular and serve food quick because that's usually not what real Hispanic food is going to be like. Take a trip down to the Everglades and try and find a secluded beach with not a lot of people. Florida is really nice and there is tons of stuff to do everywhere. You'll probably find something to do right as you get off the plane.
Naturally you choose a country in eastern Europe, many country's of which are only recently being exposed to outside media and are hungry for other sources of media other then their own.
I chose the nation he is currently in. Which was the nation I was referencing from the start.

Why do you think they're specifically "vulnerable" to American media in that case. Wouldn't that kind of mean it's the most influential. Or the most powerful.
edit: Or do you disagree with the claim that American media has a strong influence compared to other countries' media?
Why do you think they're specifically "vulnerable" to American media in that case. Wouldn't that kind of mean it's the most influential. Or the most powerful.

"Vulnerable" you make it sound as though American media is a weapon, what I am saying is that since the collapse of the soviet union the Warsaw pact countries have shown a keen interest in culture other then their own (although they are rediscovering their own at the same time, as parts of it would have been discouraged by the soviet union) that happens to include American film and television, but also other countries such as Germany Britain and their neighboring countries.
in regard to if America has made a significant influence on another counties media? I would have to say no, not really. In Ireland for example we watch our own drama's comedy's and such. The only contact with American television would be on Digital satlite or the internet. If anything it's supplemental to whats bieng broadcast and nothing more (Music is a mix of both local, american and British artists) and the same thing can be said for most other countrys in Europe, especially non-English speaking ones where they have little interest in American media at all.
Stupid jokes aside, I've traveled to quite a few states throughout my life and 4 states in the past 2 years through the military. There's a lot. The food is the best to be honest.. I've never been to Florida but be glad it'll be nice out there. Miami is a big city so no doubt there will be all kinds of ads for all kinds of stuff to do. You just have to go find it.
Also, you'll see a lot of different types of people. I'd be a horrible liar if I tried to say there aren't fat people in America, but that's just how we are. There's pretty much any type of person you can think of here.
And take the advice of Mr. Sun. "little mom and pop businesses" will show you the true way. These are the places that aren't the mainstream McDonald's and sell the same burgers you'll see anywhere else. Oklahoma had the biggest burger ever (which I sadly didn't get to try while I was stationed in Texas) and I'm sure North Carolina has some kind of food tradition. Food really is where you'll see the differences.. so try as much as you can. Hell there are fast food restaurants here that aren't in Minnesota where I'm from, and ones I never saw in Texas or Mississippi, or when I went to Vegas.
Take advantage of what you can see. There will be something you like to do you will just have to find it.
Go to Disney World duh.
ITT Americans take america jokes too seriously and get mad.
Buy an AK-47 for the price of a PS2
No.
ITT Americans take america jokes too seriously and get mad.
No, because they aren't joking. It seems every British facepuncher is either a massive dick that flames every thread that has to do with America OR they are completely the opposite and call the other cocks out for it.
It's like a fat kid being called fat, "Calm down, dude, it's a joke" No, you're calling a fat person who knows they're fat, fat. I'm not saying America is terribly necessarily, but that seems to be the consensus by Europeans.
NASCARRRRRrrr watch cars go fast in an oval while getting pissed
I feel sorry for you, I've lived in Florida my entire life and would never visit Miami again.
Eat McDonalds, insult people of other races than you, play FOOTBALL, and watch LOADSAFOXNEWS.
oh and go hunting and fishing and enjoy your stay in our great country, you immigrant bastard.
