Next generation bullying
Imagine being alone in the woods in the future and you see this thing walking through the trees and instantly shit yourself because it is immensely dangerous.
unless you brought a hockey stick
I wonder. Is that silvery cylinder in its frame meant to be its head, like some sort of high-speed camera? 'cause with the frame enclosing it like a hood, it kinda reminds me of the E-100 series of robots from Sonic Adventure. All it needs is to be powered by a trapped birdie.
You know... they kinda look like a rough version of the Sonic 06 badniks. The robot moves like it's exceptionally drunk but trying really hard to look sober :v: The fact that it can resemble a drunken human instead of a robot is a feat of it's own. Looking forward to their next iteration, i absolutely love their work.
its so adorable consumer version when
I never thought I'd see the day. I'm both excited and worried at the same time.
wow, looks like valve has really lost a lot of good ideas for portal 3 also, i felt really bad for the robot when he was being pushed and his box was constantly being pushed away :(
To those asking what the spinning thing was and how it navigates, it can literally build a map and reference it's position in said map at up to 42000 times a second. It's called LIDAR. Give it 15 minutes and it could easily build a map like this:
Damn that's really impressive. I can't wait to see some real applications for this stuff.
That's so fucking cool.
Cortex Command is about to get real.
I think there is more behind this video than we see. I think it's a sad story.
I almost scary how much I naturally empathized with the robot when the engineer was fucking with it, my immediate thought was "what the fuck man :(" between the endearing dog-like robots and this thing, Boston Dynamics have pretty much nailed the visual design and function down as far as making their robots relatable but not uncanny.
I really wonder if they study human movement patterns then build a set of rules around them, or the exact opposite, building a system and letting it 'learn' how to walk with simulations, without using any human data, which (oh-so-curiously) has very natural and lifelike movement as a result.
I like the look of this new prototype. I'm eager to see what cool new improvements Boston Dynamics are gonna make to their next iteration of man-shaped droids. Hopefully their improvements to ATLAS will give them the same swagger that PETMAN had. PETMAN had a sweet-ass walk to them.
so that's where all the sweet VCR pussy went
It's amazing how slow progress on bipedal robots has come, and this is hella impressive. It just goes to show how much information humans have to process just to move around. A bipedal robot that can walk around a complex environment without falling over is a huge step forward; perhaps running and jumping comes next, although in humans that uses a feature that there is no really good mechanical version of (the elastic properties of tendons).
one day that guy will knock a box out of its hands and it will just turn around and sock him in the mouth
one day that guy will knock a box out of its hands and it will just turn around and sock him in the mouth
I almost half-expected this. It would make a logical sense when completing the task. "This shitbrick is going to keep knocking the box out of my hands until I knock him out cold"
I almost half-expected this. It would make a logical sense when completing the task. "This shitbrick is going to keep knocking the box out of my hands until I knock him out cold"
He did. After he got pushed he realized his job sucked and left to go find a Temp Agency. Or maybe a lawyer to file against Boston Dynamics for hostile work environment.
Someone needs to make a video with subtitles for what the robot is thinking.
one day that guy will knock a box out of its hands and it will just turn around and sock him in the mouth
If one day AI gets complex enough, I want to see a robot securing the box if it's about to get knocked out or stopping the obstacle. All that before creating Skynet of course.
If the guy keeps knocking the box out of its hands, at some point the robot should solve the problem by "removing the guy" so it can successfully do its task: move the box [editline]23rd February 2016[/editline] some one already posted that nvm
boston dynamics builds robots exclusively to be dicks to them, any advancement in technology is merely a side effect of producing the perfect target for dickery
boston dynamics builds robots exclusively to be dicks to them, any advancement in technology is merely a side effect of producing the perfect target for dickery
I mean it is Boston Dynamics.
Finally a robot that looks like something from the movies. Also the part where it puts stuff on the shelves should scare market clerks all over the world.
With servomotors like that I bet those robots could give a mean handjob
I'd love to know what sort of computer power it needs to pull that off.
I'd love to know what sort of computer power it needs to pull that off.
dunno about atlas but they released a pdf for BigDog.
dunno about atlas but they released a pdf for BigDog.
It seems big dog is using a 'Pentium', sort of wished they'd stated which Pentium.
It seems big dog is using a 'Pentium', sort of wished they'd stated which Pentium.
I think its called the "so fucking expensive you'll be in debt if you even dream about it" chip
