I figured this wasn't really a "school" thread, rather advice for, so if I'm wrong I'll serve my ban time without complaint.
Before you start insulting my age, hear me out.
I started using the Internet on dial-up when I was in kindergarten or about there. I played Reader Rabbit and such. I think the first website I was on was Newgrounds in 2004. On their BBS I constantly heard how high school was shitty, how much work they gave you, how authors had to delay making animations due to the work load and etc. The day that I would enter high school seemed so far away and non-existant from my 3rd grader brain.
In two weeks I'll be entering high school, going from top dog to low man on the totem pole. I'm the type of kid that came to the realization that my childhood (or what's left of it) is ticking on a 4 year timer, and quite frankly I'm frightened at the thought. If I could get any good, sane advice for high school, I'd be ever grateful.
The only current advice I've gotten is from my cousin who just graduated this past year. His words were simple: "Stay outta dodge."
I failed my middle school years. I then proceeded to kick ass in high school and now have a 3.6 GPA average
High School isn't a continuation of Middle School unless you want it to be, and you have to try hard to do that. It's a time for finding yourself, what you like to do, what you don't like to do, who you like to do, who you don't like to do.
And pay attention in class, ignore peer pressure, think for yourself. What you're learning will actually mean shit later on in life, so make it count.
Do not fall for any drama because then you're going to get into a cycle of bullshit. Try to be friends with the mature, yet fun people. They're out there, trust me.
Get into an extra-curricular activity, you'll make friends and potentially learn something from it. Don't be afraid to be yourself and be happy. If you like something but your friends tell you that you shouldn't do it, don't listen to them, it's your life, high school are the first years you start to make choices for yourself. You become controller of your life, nobody else. Parents/teachers will become less strict (most of the time), giving yourself room to express yourself in anyway possible. Have fun, but learn a lot while you're there.
It's intimidating at first but it gets MUCH better.
I don't know much about high schools outside of my own, but here are some things I learned in high school. I'm probably just spitting out crap nobody cares about in my life but maybe you can glean some useful information from my silly stories and mishaps.
I'm going to be a senior in 2 weeks in a vocational high school. Basically, the difference between my school and any other high school is that my school is really strict, all students stay from 8AM-3PM (i.e. must have a full 9 period schedule), and everyone has a "shop" class intended to prepare them for a career. It's a good school to prepare someone for college and a future career. My experience in high school has been horrible, but for different reasons than most people.
My first mistake was a huge one: I came to orientation half asleep. Don't show up to school half-asleep any day (especially your first few days. First impressions are extremely important) even if it means cutting fun-time out of your day. Your top priorities during the school year should be grades, keeping up with homework, and learning. Unless you have a serious family problem you have no excuse for coming to school tired. You know how teenagers are loaded with hormones? Well it's scientifically proven that those hormones cause them to specifically target tired looking people for bullying. Speaking from experience, coming tired to school will get you into so much shit that isn't worth staying up to watch that one more episode or finishing that last round of whatever game you're playing.
Second mistake: I was a fucking genius entering high school. Educationally I was better than a lot of seniors. I was reading textbooks in class for fun and probably could have gotten a near-perfect score on my SAT during sophomore year. Going into high school, I had low self esteem and undervalued myself big time. Don't put yourself down, but don't be a dick about your intelligence either. If your parents are strict or have ever been called strict about education then assume you're the best or one of the best and be content with that.
Third mistake: In all my nervousness in preparing for high school, I asked my sister for advice and she told me to "tell everyone you play sports." Being the Facepunch-surfing anti-social nerd that I am, and being blessed with an excellent story-telling ability, throughout my orientation I manged to convince everyone how much I loved playing sports when in reality I had a phobia of sports. This affected the classes I was placed in and my reputation as a whole in school which had devastating effects on my high school life. Just be yourself and do what will be best for your future.
One piece of advice that may seem like common sense but is easy to forget is to follow the school rules. In your mind you may justify something that is against the school rules but your school does not care if you had good intentions in mind. If you get in trouble once or twice for some BS reasons, get over it and don't hold a grudge against the school for it, because you probably were to blame in some regard. When I first came to my school I was a strict, vocal Muslim, and had a thick beard (yes, I had a beard at the age of 13). For whatever reason I got mad at someone and told him I would kill him (thinking in my mind that of course I would never kill someone and that it was obvious I was too weak and scrawny to do so). Needless to say I got in trouble, but I was dumb and blamed it on racism rather than the fact that the threat had to be taken seriously.
A few miscellaneous tips:

Don't take high school relationships seriously. In college people will be much more mature and that's where you'll be making your real friends.

Just because everyone else does something and doesn't get in trouble for it, it doesn't give you a reason to do it.

Have fun in school organized programs and stay away from parties where there's probably drinking and drugs.

Do not fall for the girls that ask you for help with work and then take credit for it. Especially if she denies that you've helped her. In fact, this applies to non-girls as well.

[This one may not apply to your school] Don't make fun of the gangsta kids. They don't want to do shitty things but they're trapped in that lifestyle. The ones that act tough do it because they are afraid. The best thing you can do for them is to respect and be accepting of them and to set a good example for them. Their lives can be really tough, and they don't need another person telling them how bad they are. Do not even sarcastically say you are a gang member, as that is considered a factual statement. Once you do that, the school will not help you. This is speaking from experience.
I don't know if a single thing in this post will help you but hopefully you'll get enough out of it that you'll go from :hurr: to a slightly calmer:downswords:
Just count the tiles when your taking a shower.
You sound like an immature asshole.
Most of them deserve it, they try and punch you in school and shit. Really.
it's not hard if you're not socially awkward
and when you hit your last year, or near the end of your 2nd to last year, you get to drive
What? I'm going to be a Freshman and I can start driving this March. I'm 14
Well OP, incidentally one of the first sites I visited was, too, Newgrounds
Where I discovered porn games :pervert:

He meant driving to the class.
Here is some advice for if you want to get laid and get shitty money when your older or wait a while to get laid and get half decent money when you are older.
In your first year of school, do your best to make as many older friends as possible, do what they do and teach others to do the things you have learned. Drink on a weekend, act like a mean mother fucker and voila you will have a slut in no time.
Or:
In your first year of school listen to your teachers and make friends with people who tend to be smarter than the average percentage of kids in your class (they are most likely going to be your boss when they are older) and hang out with those guys only, take shit from bullies and never swear. Be friends with all the teachers, don't smoke, don't drink and don't do drugs. Spend most of your free time with your friends doing homework at each others houses and you are soon to be an astronaut or CEO of some big company.
Or you could do what I did and mix both of them together then leave school when you are 16 with pretty decent exam results. I am joining the RAF soon for 9 years and when I leave I plan to become an instrument technician for some oil company (Hopefully BP/Total). So I have pretty much sorted my life out.
The worst thing that happened to me is that in my first year I got excluded/suspended for buying 3.5 g's or weed which I was forced into buying from a 4th year senior. Apart from that I did okay.
About to leave for my Junior year in 15 minutes.
I don't know about you guys, but I never got picked on as a freshman, but everybody makes a big deal about it.
I got a tiny bit of flak due to looking a bit geeky, by the first half of the year my entire classroom (16 people) were friends. Probably because we were all machinists so we had something in common, whereas before you have circa 32 people in a classroom and they all have varying interests
Throw bottles at the teacher and masturbate in class. If you really want some friends masturbate into the bottle in class then throw it at the teacher.

5 senior pupils all around me saying they need some money for food and they will do "stuff" to me if I don't buy the weed.
I think that is forcing and throwing the bag away afterwards seems to me that I didn't want it.
Don't contradict me ever little boy.
I guess I'm lucky, since my school is brand new, It was only freshman and Sophomores, this year Freshmen, sophomores and Juniors, etc, so I've only had to deal with a grade above me.
We also get netbooks :3:
what fucking school you go to?
what fucking school you go to?
High.
Don't take advanced placement / honors classes. Your stress level will increase exponentially. Take all A-level classes and breeze through that shit with a 4.0 GPA, play some sports, join a club, get into Harvard.
get yourself some inner connections, you are either the bitch or the dog your choice.
Come to school naked and bring a gun
ok, so what the fuck? In Australia we have kindergarten, (pre school 4 or 5 yrs) Then we Prep or kindergarten (6 yrs) then we have yr1,2,3,4,5 and 6 Prep to year 6 is called primary school. Then we have high school, Year 7,8,9,10 and the 2 optional years. 11 and 12. Then we go of to uni, with the optional gap year. How the hell does it work?
Ontopic:
In Australia stick with your friends for a while, branch out and talk to other people that you don't know, remember safety in numbers. If you are in a class with no-one you know, makes a friend immediately, you will suffer and your grades in that class will drop.
That was really hard to read.
Go back to school, Aussie.
It sucks cock. You will witness and interact with morons and douchebags often. The upside is that you will go through the long process of not giving a fuck about what anyone else thinks.
so far so good

you're just a pussy
High school was easy but I miss it a lot. But with the freedom I have now I can work, go to college, and have a flexible routine for the most part and do what I'd like.
