To be fair I knew about dead island long long before that trailer, some of the original gameplay stuff looked like it was going to be amazing, especially with some of the concepts.

i don't think the issue is with zombie games it's just that zombies are used as a lame excuse to rip-off other existing ideas. you can just imagine the brainstorming sessions:

"hey you know what game was pretty neat? mirror's edge. what can we add to mirror's edge....?
"ZOMBIES!"

for some reason people aren't realising that adding gimmicks to existing gameplay ideas isn't the way to make interesting games
