Was looking forwards to seeing some changed animals. Was dissapointed.
Damn...that was disappointing.
When the tour guide said that the red forest would kill you because of the radiation how come the animals are able to in it and live? Is it a mutation?
Humans are generally more susceptible to radiation, and we overpercieve the risk, too. Most of the radioactive material is in the soil now, and whilst it's high in some parts of the red forest, other parts might only be 10 milirontgens an hour. The wildlife has flourished because the minor radioactivity is actually less harmful to them than human interference. The boar numbers have increased many times over, there are storks and eagles, along with beavers and wolves. Plants are also more tolerant to the radiation than humans, and have flourished, too. There are a few minor mutations, but they're generally tiny things like slightly higher rates of albinism.
Other than the lack of mutants and the bearded guy saying some really stupid shit I thought it was quite interesting still. [editline]21st July 2012[/editline] Also when the hell is a rengen?
I stopped watching when they made the anti-nuclear power comment. This is stupid. Vice in general is stupid.
I hated their "anti0-nuclear" bullshit but the guy on the Vice crew who was in this is actually really cool when he is sober. Hell, I'm sure he even supports the use of nuclear energy, he was just drunk. Vice is cool, but this video is stupid. The LAST thing I would want to do on a trip to Chernobyl is to get drunk. I might not even remember it!
What a dumbass, he visits one of the most interesting place on Earth but spends most of his time getting wasted and being an arrogant jackass.
Is that the same tour guide from this video? He looked really familiar. If so, I feel kind of bad that the tour guide had to deal with this drunk guy's comments. He seems like a cool guy.
Haha, i love how their defense is to be headstrong from being drunk. I'm amazed they gave them guns though, i mean alcohol and soviet weaponry may mix well-- but only for the soviets.
