But I call bullshit, if the north didn't declare war the south would've followed suit with the rest of the world and let slavery end. Instead of letting slavery end peacefully, war was declared and both the north and south are still facing repercussions to this day. Because of the civil war immigration and production of non weapons became completely stagnant. The Civil war is just as unnecessary as any war the United States would declare today. "What if the south kept slavery going?" . Morality is something that takes years and patience to grow, eventually people would be penalized spiritually as well as mentality. Slavery has always been wrong, but committing mass murder to end something faster is a much bigger crime.
From this fat paragraph, you clearly did not read up on anything. I would still like to see actual citation on your own claims on how our system of government is imbalanced.
I know very little about US history, being Canadian. Though I've always found the concept of the american civil war humorous. It's a war against themselves.
It looks like non-Americans don't understand the American Civil War 100%. And I don't hold it against any of you. You know more about my country's wars than I know about your country's wars.
I'm not sure whether that paragraph means you're an idiot or that our school systems are failing...
Although this may be a tad off topic, I highly recommend Harry Turtledove's series "The Great War" and "In at the Death". It provides an interesting alternative history of the south and a divided America.
If there was any literary world I'd like to be a part of, it'd be this one because then I'd finally have a shot at getting laid. [editline]11:37PM[/editline] And this thread makes my head spin. [editline]11:39PM[/editline]
He's saying the Civil War is overrated, and I'm agreeing with him. Because it doesn't effect the world in any way. American wasn't a world power afterwards, and it didn't effect anything else outside of your country.
:psyduck:
from an american history standpoint, the Civil War is the most interesting war to study. full of larger-than-life characters and unbelievable events, biblical-scale battles, and so much human drama. have you read some of the civil war letters that soldiers wrote? fucking nuts to think that people went through those kinds of things. and then the aftermath is pretty interesting too. what with booth and reconstruction's unbelievable failure and andrew johnson being a racist and all that. if you actually look at history, the civil war is really fun to look at.
OP is super cool Brit guy who thinks he is better than Americans.
the part that makes the civil war the most interesting? the fact that the south is still fighting it.
thats why ww2 is a lot more talked about
WWII is pretty much only as discussed as it is in the United States. In most of Europe, WWI is still known as "The Great War".
Because its just as real and dramatic as any civil war document. The Civil War to me is a glorified piece of fiction.
see when you decided to post something as retarded as this, that's when I decided to stop reading the thread
another reason the civil war is interesting? the monitor by titus andronicus is a fantastic album.
what state's rights was the civil war apparently about
what state's rights was the civil war apparently about
the south wanted more independence, so it wouldve been like with the articles of confederation the balance between federal power and state power, they said, gave too much power to the federal government and not enough to state legislatures. mainly, though, they were concerned about the right to own slaves. dont let anyone tell you otherwise, because if they do, theyre lying to you.
