Well, even Half life 2 isn't really a big corridor game. The two vehicle moments (especially the buggy one) are quite open and even though you're still logically supposed to go from Point A to point B you can do it the way you want, by going or not through certain areas, avoiding or attacking enemies, etc.
Half Life 2 Episode 2 was even more obvious than that with huge zones to roam around in, which was quite surprising for the franchise. Half Life 1 was obviously quite closed because it's a damn scientific underground base.
Did you even play Quake ONCE in your entire life ?
In fact, did you even play DOOM ?

Thisispain has a really fitting name. He seems to raid any thread involving old-school shooters, and that's a real pain in the ass. Remember the Hard Reset thread? An innocent PC exclusive ended up as a prey. I don't understand why he is so passionate about hating this.
Claiming RAGE has any redeeming qualities whatsoever automatically invalidates whatever dumb (and ultimately wrong) claims you're trying to make.
That's an opinion. I liked RAGE, but I loved Doom.
