Although we've mapped out thousands of lines of DNA and millions of individual pieces, we still are largely in the dark about our genetics. So I could assume that there may be a specific gene that leads to the development of homosexual attraction. I may be correct, but who knows. Even if it is genetic, I wouldn't call it a "disorder", that implies that something is wrong with being homosexual. If you go by Creationism or Evolution, you'll find that obviously males and females were meant to breed. But at those times, survival depended on it. Times have changed, not every family needs a child to contribute and there's always adoption too. So no, I don't think it's a disorder. Maybe it isn't natural, but we as humans are constantly adapting. The point is, there is nothing wrong with being homosexual if you ask me and I don't think of it as a disorder.
Even if it's a gene that causing it that gene is probably malfunctioning.
It upsets me that gays can't get married, why are we so intolerant in these times.
Because of the people like those coming in this thread saying "Being homosexual goes against the natural urge to reproduce." and "Homosexuality is a disorder because its not normal."
Isn't the belief that the natural purpose of life is reproduction being consistently phased out. Also, the sexuality genes fall under the category of co-dominant alleles. That means that they both contribute to the development of the phenotype. For example, in a number of plant species, if one allele causes production of a red flower pigment and the other allele produces white pigment, the mixture of the two will be seen as a pink flower phenotype.
Homosexuality is as normal as heterosexuality. It is a genetically inherited trait. It is not a disorder.
I'd argue that being flamboyant =/= being gay and vice versa but I can't be bothered, lol.
The Freudian model of psychosexual development is discredited, although interesting.
Yeah, I know flamboyant doesn't always mean gay, but it's the word most people use when a homosexual is acting "Heeeeeeyyyyyyy" gay or not flamboyant when they're acting like an average person.
Yeah, checked into that model for a bit and found that it didn't include femals or something. But I'll still stand on that it's something similar to that and homosexuality is either a slowed or near stopped development of that or a rare deviation of it.
But wait you were born gay :downs:
People need to stop pretending it's something you're born with. It's just some bizarre way to attempt to gain acceptance for it when that shouldn't even matter.
I actually don't pretend I was born with it because there was a point when I liked girls in 5-4thish grade, but I only liked the ones with the flatter chest and I don't know if boobs were ever appealing to me.
I believe homosexuality is, in a way, a disorder. Not in a bad way, but it's probably not how the brain is intended to work.
I'm not too fond of the word disorder but I do believe it is something psychological.
It might not be a disorder or a disease but it is against human nature.
I believe homosexuality is, in a way, a disorder. Not in a bad way, but it's probably not how the brain is intended to work.
Anything is a disorder.
Commonly using jpg images is a more common and worse disorder than being gay - people actually have reason to react negatively to it, the only reason people react, and possibly even care about gays is religion.

Because what turns you on matters in the modern world :downs:

Well done.

..."You are wrong"...
Because what turns you on matters in the modern world :downs:
Because figuring it out helps fight stupid christians who think it's againts nature or whatever, when proving that it is a natural psychological development shows that it is entirely within nature.
Yes, it entirely matters.
Even if it's a gene that causing it that gene is probably malfunctioning.
In the same way that light skin is a malfunction of melanin producing genes.
It is . YOu are not supposd to reproduce.
Homosexuality is really fucking gay.
Department of Redundancy Department
As some people have pointed out, being gay is definetly a disorder. Nature dictates we should be attracted to the opposite sex, otherwise we wouldn't exist. And as gays have pointed out, you don't "become" gay, you are born gay. It is a genetic disorder. Most people just rage when they hear "disorder" in regards to gays, because they are ignorant, and don't truly understand the definition of the word.
Also, i'm completely fine with people being gay, just incase some ignorant peasant decides i'm a homophobe.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality_in_animals

Human nature idiot.
Human nature is self preservation which includes reproduction.

It's pretty damn sick to judge people on their sexuality. You can't choose your sexuality. You don't choose to be straight, do you? No. You think that one day you wake up and think "Hey, I like men!"? Fuck that. It's actually a long process to actually becoming gay. I didn't notice for a while, it just happens naturally. No choice about it.
You're a disorder.

I fail to see how this doesn't apply to other animals too.
I'm pretty sure they all want to survive as a species.

That's not how co-dominance works; the genes don't mix, it's just that one gene codes for no red pigment and one gene codes for red pigment so you get a pink flower from half red pigment production, so to speak.
But lots of genes don't display such clear cut co-dominance;

and in terms of behavioural traits it's so incredibly hard to extrapolate back to genes. Which raises the question: if nobody's sure what genes cause homosexuality, how do you know they're codominant?
I hope this doesn't come across as too rude, but I've been doing Biology notes all day so this is kicking around.

I would be happy to be proven wrong that genes have anything to do with how your mind works beyond something physical.
My thought it that you only act like your parents because you were raised by them and since birth that is how you have found it socially acceptable to act. I haven't heard of anyone with personality traits that their grandfather they never met had that their father or mother didn't.

At least gays like other humans wierdo.

Being gay isn't a disorder, lacking the ability to reproduce would be.
But granted, even wincingly so, they could still impregnate a woman... There's no disorder.
It's not like being gay suddenly makes them sterile.

Yeah...see anything a human does is technically human nature, so homosexuality is part of human nature. Now if we started genetic modification of humans and introduced the green fluorescent protein gene you might be able to argue that phosphorescence is against human nature because transgenic humans aren't technically 100% human, but then that's just silly.

Well you must not know a lot of people then.
Lots of people are said to inherit their "grandfathers temper" or whatever.

But you could just counter that by saying anything we develop is part of our human nature and that it's only natural to advance ourselves with our brain power.
The only unnatural things are things counter productive to our society. I.E. killing each other for no reason.
As some people have pointed out, being gay is definetly a disorder. Nature dictates we should be attracted to the opposite sex, otherwise we wouldn't exist.
Actually, no, that's not how Evolution/natural selection works.
You aren't "meant" to help the species survive anymore than you're "meant" to do anything else.
And as gays have pointed out, you don't "become" gay, you are born gay.
No, you aren't. You aren't born with a genetic predisposition towards fucking men or women. If you want to go ahead and show me a baby and tell me that he loves the cock, I'll go ahead and point out a nutcase.
Spoilers: It's you.

Lol. Homosexuality goes as deep as instinct. Basically, they are attracted to the same gender. It's the same attraction anyone feels for any sexuality, fetisch or whatever.
Therefore, by logic, judging a homosexual is judging yourself.
