Hmm, but I thought it will be using retina display, so it is not compatible with 2nd generation.
Retina apps are always backwards compatibile. You won't get your application into the store if it isn't.
Will there still be a free version with ads?
Yes, but not at first. That's going to be coming weeks/months later, not really a priority. Need to change a bunch of UIs to accommodate iAd units.
On that quick video it showed a tree view of the forums. How deep will it go? Right now, it looks like 2 layers. Does it go any further? If not, can you change the settings so it goes all the way down?
It goes all the way, the entire depth of the tree. The forums shown there are part of a testing forum I use to test out API changes before pushing them to the live forums
The purchase API changes need adding to the live forum by garry, which he'll be doing for me later today.
I remember when i made a thread about making this app a LONG time ago and i got shunned for it..

Dude I am SO fuckin pumped. My life is over when its released.
How long after you submit it is it available?

Generally it takes 1 week for it to be reviewed. From there, they can either accept or reject it.
If they accept it, hurray, I can put it into the App Store.
If they reject it, then it's back to the start again. I need to fix whatever they're complaining about, and then submit it for review and wait another week.
I don't expect that we'll get through review first time...

What would they dislike about it that would make it get rejected?

They have a whole bunch of guidelines your application has to meet.
They're pretty detailed, and depending how anal the reviewer you get is, you can get pulled up for totally trivial stuff.
Even using Apple's supplied icons inappropriately is enough to warranty a rejection...

The man is just tryin to get you down, Hexxah

Do you have a list of the guidelines you have to meet? so we can see how ridiculous they are.
Good luck getting it in the store, Hexxeh!
But I don't see users purchasing this unless the is major pros from spending money but I wouldn't charge over 59p for it.
They'll make jackshit if they sell it for 59p. It'll probably end up being on the region of £2 or slightly more.
Apple not letting you use default icons is a fucking pain. It's why the read threads icon is hideous.
Hell, I'll buy it at any price. I just got Final Fantasy 3 on my 3GS so I have $9 to spare!
One thing that won't be in the first release is rating viewing. You can make new ratings, but you can't see ratings that are already there. I'll fix this in a later version when I overhaul the ratings UI, because the current UI sucks.
Oh, and after much tearing out of hair, landscape mode will be complete and present in our app store release.
Awesome news, shouldn't be long now then

Have you thought of having exclusive ratings for the iPod version, or perhaps different icons? I wouldn't mind having special ratings.

Can we get a quick answer on this, hexxeh?
These are the main two documents:
http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/userexperience/conceptual/mobilehig/Introduction/Introduction.html
The other one is the App Store review guidelines, but you need to be logged in with an iOS developer account to view this document, here's a mirror courtesy of Engadget: http://stadium.weblogsinc.com/engadget/files/app-store-guidelines.pdf
That version is slightly out of date, but you get the idea.
Will users lose any features in the free version?
Will users lose any features in the free version?
Yeah, free version is minimal view/post, has lots of adverts and won't be out for a few months at least. It's taking a backseat while I work on the paid version.
Edit: Rate this dumb all you like, but at the end of the day if you were in my shoes you'd be doing the exact same thing.
I'm probably wrong on this, but isn't our API private?
I'm probably wrong on this, but isn't our API private?
If you're referencing those Apple documents and their usage of the term "private APIs" that's not what they mean. They mean APIs in iOS that aren't documented for public developer usage. The Facepunch API is a HTTP-based API, and nothing to do with that restriction.
Are you guys seriously rating Hexxeh dumb? Don't be butthurt because he isn't making something he sacrificed MONTHS for for free.
cos rating hexxeh dumb means he will say 'fuck my hard work, have it for free'
You'll understand why once you actually use the application. Some of the feedback I've had from testers has been astounding.
I had to use Safari on my iPhone the other day because I'd accidentally deleted the app and didn't have my machine handy to install a test build again at college. After using my app for a few months I'd forgotten how horrible Safari was, and how fast my app makes it.
I spent today fixing up landscape mode and some HTML entity decode problems:

Still waiting on garry to push some API changes.
Maybe rather than a free version, I should give users the chance to have some kind of "free trial" of the account upgrade. Say, 3 days where they can use the application unrestricted, but after this your account reverts back and you'll need to pay for the upgrade to carry on using it.
Logins might break for current beta users, as some new changes are going into API that are incompatible with the API version the app is using.
I'll be sending out version 1.9 of the app that supports the new API spec soon. Full ratings support is now present in the API so I don't need to use the horrible hacks the app is using currently, and ticker support is in too (but this isn't appearing in the app yet).
read threadS?
App version 1.9 just went out to testers, this is the second to last version before I submit. Testing in-app account upgrades with this update.
READ THIS THREAD VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THIS UPDATE: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1078458-Account-upgrade-testing
The above link is for testers only, people not in the beta program want be able to view it. Just want to make sure all the testers see it.
i just found out you better get rid of installous because in-app purchases won't work with it, trololo
