Quick question, lets get some opinions together: is there a demand for this to be a universal app and so for it to work on iPad, too? I find Facepunch works very well on iPad because it's so much higher-res, but an iPad version could look very slick.
Three options, don't do this, do this for the first version, or do this later.
I need to decide now because I'll need to factor it into my plans.
Do this later/don't do this. Like you said it already works well as is, compared to the iPhone (and other stuff) which could use a better layout.
Shake to reload.
Cos most apps never use that :saddowns:
Great idea, this would be a great way to speed up loading times of FP content on a mobile device
Please don't make it cost something. :smith:
And is asking for a save thread for when you have no Internet (Looking at you Sleep and dreams thread) too much?

This is something I'm considering very carefully, going to use all techniques possible to minimise data usage.
Do the iPad version later on, larger screen, they can deal with it for a little longer

Have the template built into the app?
Shake to reload.

See no reason why we can't add this, it's simple to implement and a pretty fun feature.

Save it where? As what?
Save it where? As what?
Probably save as in bookmark
He means so you can have an offline copy of the thread
I have a droid and would love this. Opera mini is great but it doesn't quite handle pages properly sometimes (dodgy layouts).
If it's for the Ipod touch also, then i wouldn't mind beta testing if you need any.
Anyway i say for the paid version, it comes with features that the Free doesn't have.
Even though Safari does cache resources, it has a pretty small cache, to the point where it's almost useless. This was especially the case in 3.x, I think it's been improved a bit in 4.x, but it's still not great. Someone did a study of this: http://www.yuiblog.com/blog/2010/06/28/mobile-browser-cache-limits/
This app won't suffer the same problem as the only data we need to load is the JSON for page data, such as posts and threads, plus images posted in the threads and your avatars. We can cache the avatars of course, too.

I'd say don't do this.
Oh and if i can, do i have to do any coding? Since i never did code before.

Damn there goes my automerge.
Do the iPad later.
Yeah I meant save the thread for times when you are away from home or something.
Add auto thumbnails for images that are over a certain size (Example; the LMAO thread takes forever to load on my Galaxy S.) Allow filtering to save on data costs when browsing on the go, say toggle avatars/images/videos etc.

You could toggle images on/off. Thumbnailing would require a proxy to do the processing. If we go the thumbnailing route, that'd be on the paid app only probably, purely because it requires an external server to do the resizing.

2nd try.
Newer Logo.
All the fonts the same.
Images off/on sound better.

Actually the LMAO pics thread brings up a good point.
But instead of a thumbnail, perhaps a link (like the media tag perhaps?) that allows you to open an individual image (With an option to disable the feature)
(Since most people just follow the ratings anyway, view the ratings before you open a pic :P
Though I wouldn't mind paying for it if it was worth it.

The only problem is that some people use their own images for smileys, we'd be converting those to links. We can't differentiate between types of image.
If you putted some posts on the next page (like in LMAO pics) it would possibly have less lag, but then again thread's pages limit.
When is there a release?
It's going to be a case of months, this kind of thing doesn't happen overnight. We will have a few betas and I'll keep you updated with images/videos (again, I can use these in coursework so it's win/win).

Is there a reason you'd want to differentiate? Do em all!
Realisticly, the functionality would be there for a low-bandwidth mode
I know it's a given but multitasking for ipod and apps2sd for android capability is fairly important.
Faceraper script has a some good toggles and and preferences that you could take a look at for inspiration.
This kind of app should be on the SD card anyway... (Maybe not the premium version though)
Edit: Scratch that last, I remember droid has license servers the app can query to see if the phone has purchased it
