Hopefully I'll get into the beta because I'm going to the hospital on Tuesday :smith:
If you keep asking about it Hexxeh might not consider you. Although you should get in :unsmith:

Thanks :unsmith:
By the way, is iPhone development extremely long or Hexxeh really slow ? I mean, I could get a rather good looking FP Reader for Android in less than a week.
Do it then.

Even Hexxeh's magical powers doesn't allow him to spew out code at an alarming rate.
It takes time, and at least it will be good.
This app will be compatible with the iPod touch correct?
This app will be compatible with the iPod touch correct?
do people not realize that iOS apps work on ALL iDevices unless it requires a camera or other feature that is only available on certain devices?

IOS Compatible = iPhone iPod iPad

Apple ditched its first adopters to force upgrades, so any apps running on the latest version(s) of iOS will not run on an iPod touch first generation unless it's made with an older version of iOS or you splurge your money on another one of Apples devices, only to be dropped again. This is why Apple has lost all my current and future support for their media players since Apple being the $200 billion company it is couldn't make the iOS backwards compatible as it had been doing all along.
Thanks :unsmith:
Jesus christ stop being such a massive FAGGOT!
oops now i have to upgrade with an in-app purchase again
Ragy that's not true...
Developers can still target iOS3.
Ragy that's not true...

I said developers can still target iOS3, but more and more developers are moving to iOS4 for obvious reasons. Almost all of my apps no longer support my device, even the ones I paid for. My device which was once full of apps is now practically empty, as almost any app I attempt to download results in a compatibility box appearing. The only way to fix this is giving more money to Apple. This is of course not the developers fault, but Apples.
To be honest, I'd pay $10 for this.

If the developer isn't the oldest iOS version they can for the featureset they need, then it's the developers fault, not Apple's. If it doesn't work, and they picked the correct target SDK, then it's just that your device doesn't support the features that app needs to use.
Is there any good reason not to target iOS4 ?
Is there any good reason not to target iOS4 ?
Yeah, to let people on older devices use your app. There's zero benefit to targeting iOS 4 over 3 unless you're using APIs that weren't in iOS 3.

Apps have been backwards compatible since the first iPhone. Apps that required a camera or mic still ran on the iPod Touch regardless of those missing features. Those are features that cannot be fixed on an iPod and that's not what I'm complaining about. I'm complaining about apps not being compatible simply because it's on iOS4. Most of the developers that updated to iOS4 simply did it to update with some minor bug fixes, no additional features added for that specific app that are iOS4 specific. Apps that are still fully compatible to run on the first generation, yet can't simply because Apple doesn't allow it.
Raise the price to 2 dollars. Splurge a little. Hell I'd pay 2 bucks for it.
I wouldn't pay for something you can look up for free using your phones internet.

That's not Apple's fault, then. Blame the developer.
Will you be able to search in this app? maybe disable the feature if you're not a gold member? not sure how that'd work though.

It is Apples fault as the developer has no control over it.
Eventually, and it'll be open to all users. Nowhere near priority though, it's not a commonly used feature.
Also, just to let you know what's going on:
Fixing a bug where your session silently expires right now
Adding quoting so you can tap a post to quote it
Added 6 more users to the beta, you'll find out who you are soon

The developer can target an older SDK. Apple will still let you target iOS 3, but not iOS 2.
If developers have moved to iOS 4 for no good reason (minor bug fixes is a bullshit reason...), then it's not Apple's fault. Do you want a stagnant platform?

Oooh, Quoting!
:neckbeard:
And yes, when creating a new probject you can select iOS3 I believe, but iOS4 is a much better platform. The only reason not to upgrade is if your device is outdated.

The problem would be non-existent if Apple would have simply made it backwards compatible as they had on every other previous version of iOS. iOS4 apps are not so radically different than iOS3 apps that they cannot be ran on an older device.

They can't make them backwards compatible.... just not how these things work.
The reason it wasn't a problem in previous versions is because they didn't stop supporting new iOS versions on older devices until iOS 4. But they can't support them forever...
Sorry if this was asked before, but will this have a subscribed threads feature?
How do quotes look on the app?
Are they in a similar blue box or...
Dude I am so pumped for this...my life is over when it comes out. iPhone+Facepunch= my life.
Maybe you could add a feature where you tap an "Add picture" button and you can add a picture right from the device (By taking or selecting)
Sorry if this is already an idea

Hexxeh was thinking about adding push notifications for subscribed threads, so I assume so.

Apple dropped support too early for a device that was not fully outdated yet.

But where would the image be uploaded to?
