I believe it was because when the ipod touch G1 was released the market hadn't been created, so the device wasn't made to work with apps very well.

Basically that's what I said earlier, but the iPod is still capable of running games and apps, like Zombies.
I suggest making the app free, with basic stuff, and then it's upgradable through the app, as to prevent the many installous thieves.

iOS already has a rotation lock feature in the multitasking menu, building another one into the app would be unneeded and silly.

My iPod doesn't have a multitasking menu, but this may be because it's a older device that can't use the multitasking feature.

Simple: Fake server that authorizes the application.
Although having it associated to your Facepunch login could be problematic for alt users, they could buy it, get banned, switch accounts and lose access to the app.
fake auth server? so where does the info for the api posts and stuff come through? I highly doubt you would make a server process facepunch.
