This is fucking terrible. That is pretty much 3 minutes of my life that would have been better spent killing my self.
Remember when memes used to be funny?
Were they ever really funny? What has happened?
they're always funny for about a week and then it's like done
wait I shouldn't say always but my point is the only "good" memes were only good for a short period anyway, it's not like quality is better or worse than before the old shit is still pretty dumb now even if some people cling to it with rose tinted glasses
that was so bad I now have ptsd
i thought it was a very good speech and some clever use of meme's but then i got arrrowed in the knee xD
That was epic. That was epic for the win.
Remember fads?
I don't think I've seen the word fad in this context since 2006 or 2007..

Every meme stops being funny once everyone finds out about it. It's essential to the way they work; they're inside jokes for communities. And just like inside jokes, memes are only funny when a limited amount of people get them. The exclusivity is a big part of it, and that's not elitism, that's just how they work. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem as in order for the meme to be funny you'd need some context as to how it got started. However, with websites like Knowyourmeme, anyone can find the context for a meme. Suddenly, everyone is in on the inside joke, and then it stops being an inside joke, and the whole thing just collapses upon itself. Of course, this would happen without Knowyourmeme as well, but they sure speed up the process a lot.
Each time he shouted "MEME OF THE YEAR" it felt like I was being punched in the stomach by awkwardness.
Honestly the level of cringe worthiness puts E3 to shame.

honestly i think its more that jokes stop being funny obce a billion people are spouting them again and again
[editline]21st November 2013[/editline]
has nothing to do with ~joke exclusivity~
this should not exist, can we please erase it
What the actual fuck was the crowd supposed to be this bored? A single guy was clapping.
And WHO the FUCK had the idea for meme awards? I like insider memes like "REMOVE KEBAB" or the Facepunch memes like That Cat and the like but this is just... ugh.
That was epic. That was epic for the win.
I can't help but read that with the awful inflection that girl in the video does.
YOU GOTTA LOOK INSIDE YOURSELF AND SAY "WHAT AM I WILLING TO PUT UP WITH TODAY!?"

Ironic shitposting is still shitposting.
Also say what you want, but these things were only funny when 4chan had them. Then Reddit got it and shit got all shitty.
And then 9gag, then facebook...

so yeah Reddit and 9gag basically killed memes
DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE
Original memes were fucking great in that you had to have some kind of backstory understanding to get them, which is why sites like "encyclopediadramatica" and "knowyourmeme" were originally created.
Sadly, once hitting general populace, they had to be dumbed down for better universal understanding. It's really a sad decaying history of humor, like watching George Carlin turn into Carlos Mencia animorphs-style.
Encyclopedia Dramatica wasn't originally intended for memes in fact most of it is situations and users of specific internet websites that are totally fucking dumb, and its still funny to read today
Knowyourmeme's intention was straight up memes but now they also deal with current situations but its more SFW
