Titanfall Alpha Footage (Watch it before it gets taken down)

I don't mind the 6v6, it's a pretty smart compromise if you think about it.
In a full 32 player game it'd either be a big clusterfuck of titans, or the titan distribution would be bias (ie only better players in the match can get a titan) or completely random (putting pressure on people who do get titans to do well). Alternatively the maps would have to be larger, making running around on foot a pain, and you wouldn't get nearly as much pilot vs pilot combat.
To compensate the low player count they added AI grunts to the match to fill out the battlefield. I agree their AI is pretty lame and ineffective right now, hopefully they improve that. I'd also prefer to be able to order them around too.

sure looks COMPETITIVE
at least give the option to have a higher player count than 12
those are all cannonfodder AI grunts
Christ, are you really doing this? Each player's able to call down their own Titans, and there's a bunch of 'Grunts', bot soldiers that are weaker, running around to make it seem like a true battlezone. Can you imagine 16, 18, 24 or so forth players summoning Titans and making it an utter destruction clusterfuck?
64 players or bust
I'm disliking the lack of recoil when ADSing. Feels just like CoD.
I like this, I can't wait to play. Hopefully there'll be a demo or free weekend or something so I don't have to dish out a lot of money to see if it really will be CoD with mecha like ALL YOU VIDEOGAME EXPERTS WOULD HAVE ME BELIEVE
What's the point of grunts anyway? This isn't a moba right? Then why?
What's the point of grunts anyway? This isn't a moba right? Then why?
Why does 'grunts' translate to 'MOBA'? What's wrong with having these weak AIs running around in the midst of matches?

Titanfall's an EA game. Buy on origin, play for a couple hours, if you like it keep it. Don't like it, get a refund on it as long as you apply for the refund within 24 hours of your first launch. I got a refund on BF4 without issues.

force the team to spread out more so grunts don't slip past
make the battlefield less empty
fun to shoot
or maybe you can grind enemy grunts to get titan faster

Oh sweet, I didn't realise that's a thing. Too bad BF4 was more or less fine on release and got more shit as time went on so I can't get a return on that as easily :l
I think the whole limit on players is so you can co ordinate teamwork stuff better.
This looks really average. The infantry shooting mechanics look like the same-old-same-old that we've had forever. Why not have some fun projectile weapons that are hard to use but have a high reward of lots of damage? Sure, still have the piddly hitscan automatic weapons, but nerf them to incentivise more interesting weapons. And it irks me that the player is able to move about so much, then they're slowed to a crawl when aiming down sights. Surely if the infantry are supposed to be the fast paced, mobile and agile option, then they should still be able to move fast when shooting. Yeah, you can shoot while not ADS, but you lose a lot of accuracy. If your speed and agility is your benefit, then why is it juxtaposed with the clunkiness of slowing down while aiming? It's like the Doom vs Quake model. Doom, you could move fast paced and shoot; Quake, the level design inhibited you from moving as fast, always stopping during encounters. In this case its the game's mechanics slowing the player down. If the devs can press on the fact that the infantry have the mobility advantage, then I think it'd be for the betterment of the game. Quick attacks, in-and-out. Stopping to aim your weapon really slams the breaks on your character's momentum.
I can also see the spectacle of the mech combat and the scale that comes with it becoming old-hat quickly. Yeah, whoo, you've got a mech. How many times will you be blown away by it dropping into battle? I hope they've got a lot of variation in the mechs. At the very least lots of customisation options if there's only one type (I saw in the video there's different weapons, hopefully more than just that). If there can be different types rather than just the bipedal ones that'd be great; else you're just walking about in a big avatar of your infantry character. And more emphasis on the verticality of the environments. Maybe have bridges running between the high rises; leave the streets to the mechs, and have the infantry scaling the buildings. Maybe the mechs can get involved up there too? Jump packs on the mechs? Yes please.
Obviously this is just alpha footage, so the players won't have worked out all the nuances of the game. I can see feigning of the mechs' magnet-thing happening; faking your opponent into firing, catching his rounds and throwing them back. And the strafing as well looks like it could create some interesting encounters when players get good at it. But I hope both aspects of the game's combat become a bit more interesting, else I fear I could have similar experiences in other titles, in some cases for free.
Looks bad on xbox, should still look beautiful on the PC hopefully.
I'll probably buy it still.

this just in, dota 2 isnt competitive because it has 10 players.
this just in, dota 2 isnt competitive because it has 10 players.
I'm fairly certain he means the exact opposite. Most competitive games are lower player counts, and this game clearly won't be competitive in any manner, so why cap it at only 12 players? Why not more? Have a better system of calling in Titans, or a game mode where after X amount of time, some sort of a laptop or something drops somewhere in the map and you have to get to it in order to drop a Titan. There's many more possibilities than what seems to be a countdown timer that everyone has until their Titan drops, so if there was a higher player count it could still work. 12 players and a bunch of cannonfodder AI to fluff it up doesn't seem very great imo
seriously though, if you make a "competitive" game with more than 10~ players per team, you're really fucking pushing it
it already costs a ton to fly out teams to compete as it is, hence why you don't see any tf2 or bf4 competitions happening
Battlefield games and TF2 can be competitive, but theres just no tournaments or E sports for them. Plenty of clans do proper organization and organize teams to battle in both games.
I think a cool way to use the bots would be to just give each player two or three guys that you can issue orders to. You could order them to hold a capture point in whatever version of Domination they have, or to just move around you and look for enemies, or also sending them off on their own to take objectives. It would probably be abused (entire team sends their minions to one point :v:) though but its just a rough idea I had to counteract the fact that, from this gameplay, the AI doesn't look like anything exciting.
The movement and shooting looks great though. CoD with jetpacks and giant robots sounds fun as hell.
But it's a alpha! But it's a beta! But it's just released! But they'll patch it!
I didn't want to post an image macro, but you get the point
jesus christ stop parroting /v/
what's next you're gonna post a fox and grapes macro
not like you could have a max titans cvar
Looks like a lot of fun.
I'm wondering why those 10+ guys he ran into at the start just stared at him dumbfounded and let themselves get shot.

Grunts, aka bots that are basically cannon fodder.
Battlefield games and TF2 can be competitive, but theres just no tournaments or E sports for them. Plenty of clans do proper organization and organize teams to battle in both games.
BF competition is 99% of the time 5v5 domination. The only time there's every more (24 player conquest, 32, 64 etc.) is for events and not actual competitive in any way.
Same goes for TF2. Both have smaller player counts, 10-12 when it comes to actual competition. This game won't be competitive, and they've capped it at a stupidly low number for no reason
So CoD, but with freerunning, kicking, jetpacks, AI bots, and giant mechs (and judging from earlier previews, gore)
I'm really not seeing the problem here
Why are so many of you surprised it plays like CoD with mechs? It's being made by the people who made CoD4 and MW2, the core CoD formula is fine, the problems are overpowered killstreak rewards, unbalanced weapons, and a fucking awful community.
The killstreaks are solved in this game because everyone just gets a titan. The guns could go either way, we have to wait until the game come out to know. And the community is just something you have to put up with or try to avoid, hopefully Titanfall doesn't get flooded with CoD kiddies who shout profanities every other word.
If Titanfall turns out to be CoD4 with mechs then it'll be exactly the game I want. If you want a tactical, large scale mech game go play Mechwarrior.
a whole new game and they still use the same fucking shitty character animations.
I'm literally fucking boiling with indescribable amounts of raging hell-fury.
Now I wish it was coming to PC

shit, fucking ninjas
I'm hoping this can become my next Cod 4, Bad Company 2 or Halo 3.
(As in, multiplayer game that I can play for hours on end with out getting bored.)
It's been too long since I've had an addictive and enjoyable multiplayer experience.

You mean it looks like the series that the devs originally worked on? What a surprise!

Bots with terrible AI. Think Call of Duty training gamemode on easy.
Its like COD meets Prototype.
