Titanfall Alpha Footage (Watch it before it gets taken down)

I really don't like the idea of the bots, especially the way they act. Seems like it'd really take me out of the game immersion wise, but I guess I'll have to play it first.
What's the point of grunts anyway? This isn't a moba right? Then why?
It's to prevent the frustration of getting killed multiple times right after spawning common in multiplayer games and to immerse you in the role of the "pilots" which are supposed to be elite soldiers
You mean it looks like the series that the devs originally worked on? What a surprise!
??? this is a poor argument. naughty dog worked on crash bandicoot but you don't see the cartoony stylized artwork of crash in uncharted or the last of us do you? valve worked on hl2 but you don't see the muddy and urban designs in portal or tf2 do you?
Might be late but there is also another video. Shows off some customisation and the victory epilogue.

Naughty Dog now isn't necessarily made up of the same people as naughty dog was then. They haven't made anything except Uncharted games and Last of Us since 2006. I'll grant you valve though, they're a very creative bunch of people.
I'm sure Titanfall has plenty of differences that we can't fully appreciate because the game isn't even out yet.

There is a very clear path from Crash to Jak & Daxter to Uncharted to The Last of Us. If you play them all in order they feel like a very natural evolution of design ideas.
I dunno, but I don't like games that try to fill the battlefield with cannonfodder AI, I hate it when the enemy is getting ahead of the game just because our bots decided to be swarming idiots. I think large team counts might work, if they just made it so there was a max amount of current titans per team. Also, a cooldown on current titan numbers, to just prevent a constant stream of 6 titans at all times.
I wonder if SourceMod will work with that
also, i somehow can't imagine Source working in pair with Origin
The guns, UI, and aiming mechanics are similar to COD.
Jetpacks, AI, and vehicles could mean a lot.
This is probably too early to tell and too short of a clip to know if it will be good or not.
Cod in terms of gameplay it's actually fun if done right.
And if you change it, seriouslly i would hate anything if they tried to sell it to me every year.
if the grunts are going to have the AI of doorknobs in the final game (which I am almost certain they will) then this is shaping up to look incredibly mediocre

But the AI aren't supposed to be as smart as real players. If they were, then why bother having such a low player count?

They are supposed to be cannon fodder, a way to easily get exp, not simulations of real players.

what's the point then? shooting these idiots just looks like a boring chore while you wait for an enemy player to appear on screen. why not just increase that pitiful player count to make exp gain more fun?

from what I heard all the textures are downscaled in the alpha (they're 25% the resolution, so 512x512 instead of 1024x1024 for example)

Oh right, yeah, well then i have no complaints, it looks fun as fuck.

because if everyone is the elite soldier guys, then the whole point of titan fall is gone.
This looks like it could be fun for a while, I like fast-paced shooters. But then again it feels like something we've all played before already.

They're more of a piece of the environment to direct where the main points of contention are, like creeps in a MOBA game, from the looks of it.
a whole new game and they still use the same fucking shitty character animations.
I'm literally fucking boiling with indescribable amounts of raging hell-fury.
Get a life for fuck sake, oh no they use the same running animations or reloading animations! Holy shit call the animation police there's not some fucking new inventive way to sprint or put bullets into a gun!!!

Because the game has been designed around a small player count in order to accommodate the fast-paced action and the frequent availability of titans.
This looks amazing and I will love the shit out of this game

How do you have unique running animations it's fucking running
While it does look fun, I imagine shooting bots that have no intelligence whatsoever will get tiring. They just seem to be there so you can farm XP/points for a mech or whatever.
If you're in a mech, and see an actual player on foot, you can probably just instant kill him if you're good enough and vice versa (jumping onto mechs as shown in the trailers).
Yeah i can imagine it getting boring after a short while, just like COD is.

not really, smart players will use their mobility to beat a mech, hence why there is wall running, jetpacking, and wall jump/vaulting.

"you can probably just instant kill him if you're good enough"
Aim fast enough, predict peoples movement, etc.
i think my favorite people in this thread are the ones critically judging an alpha as if it was final release

mechs are sluggish and if you flank them, you can shoot the core on their backs and kill them almost instantly like the tanks in halo. not to mention counter measures to disable them, so no its not over powered.
