Strong statements leave lasting impressions that may or may not be positive and have no inherent value one way or the other. Some may respond positively to this kind of treatment, but others could end up emotionally scarred from repeated instances of a parental figure embarrassing and belittling them.

You don't help a demotivated child through punishment. It makes the kid feel as if has he has to perform well to satisfy his father or suffer the consequences imposed on him.

Hardly motivational and very stressful for the child. It's better to help him develop a natural will to learn.
