No Russian in MW2 was pretty controversial. Annoying how that got so much hastle when many other games have allowed worse treatment of innocent civilians.

That level was 100% for publicity

Really? Everyone I talked to about it was going on about how fun it was mowing down innocent civilians and watching them suffer. But then the people I was talking to about it are twats.

Wait, fuck, you ARE joking, right?

Sounds interesting, what happened?
c&cRed Alert 2
Spelled controversial wrong AND used it in the wrong context. Nice.

Says the one with the downs-syndrome avatar. We all know it was for publicity, and to please the ADD ridden little kids who play this rubbish.

What? It's not like IW named every single NPC and had them screaming about their families.
Well Postal 2 is the only game i know of that has been banned from retail in the US.
But i know there are more controversial games out there.
I mean here right here i'm just trying to pick up milk

how did we go from GTA, to my awful spelling, to Christians rebelling Dante's inferno, to "morals are challenged and people will consider their own ethics afterwards" ???
I'd say Mortal Kombat or Carmageddon, because they are the two games I wasn't allowed to play as a kid.
GTA and WoW/Warcrak
I would say Half Life 2, simply for the first realistic facial animations.
many games are nasty to look at, like parts of prey, or the most recent doom game had some gross parts. offensive was never an issue, i mean, thats what the age-limit/rateings are for, right?
Super Columbine Massacre or JFK Reloaded for most controversial.
In its time, mortal combat?

I'd hesitate to say that MW2 was life-changing or profound
it wasn't.
Not the most, but one of the more controversial games was Duke 3D.
Probably Doom or Grand Theft Auto.
"No Russian" was just an attempt to be edgy and was a publicity stunt.
Simcopter according to Wikipedia
The game gained controversy when a designer inserted sprites of shirtless "himbos" (male bimbos) in Speedo trunks who hugged and kissed each other, who appear in great numbers on certain dates. Their fluorescent nipples were drawn with a special rendering mode usually reserved for fog-piercing runway landing lights, so they could easily be seen from long distances in bad weather. An unintended emergent behavior of the code caused hundreds of himbos to swarm and crowd around the helicopter, where they would be slashed up by the blades, and then need to be air-lifted to the hospital -- which earned the player easy money. The easter egg was caught shortly after release and removed from future copies of the game.
The designer, Jacque Servin, was fired afterwards for adding unauthorized content (which delayed the release of the game, and caused Maxis to miss Christmas season). He cited his actions as a response to the intolerable working conditions he allegedly suffered at Maxis.[1][2] Because of the prank, Yahoo! Games has it listed as one of the top ten controversial games of all time.[3]
And also happens to set the story for the entire game.
I say Half Life 1
