Sounds like you've got a very neutral and well-founded opinion there.
Why thank you, I try, Captain Asshole
People against snakes ITT are retarded

Don't fucking buy them from Petco or bullshit like that.
Get them at an animal expo
Most of the ones they have in pet stores have mites and shit. You'd have to buy spray or something to put on your snake to kill the mites and spray everything in your cage so it doesn't get them again.
-You feed them a couple times per week, once per week and so on depending on size of snake and what you're giving it, ie pinky mice, fuzzy mice, adult mice and rats.
-Change the water regularly
-Provide adequate temperatures and humidity (via spraying water) depending on the snake requirements
The heat mat under the terrarium will handle that for you and so will having your heat lamp on for x amount of hours during the day.
-Change bedding once every month or so
That's basically it, other than taking the shit it makes out of the tank you don't need to do anything.
Picture fucking related, easiest shit to take care of

To answer your first statement, thank you, I try.
Second statement, INSIGHT? There is no insight. They hump and hump and hump, and we fire our guns at them. End of story.
One last edit: And if yer gonna turn that into a movie, I recommend "Furocaust: The Furfag Massacre" as a title.
I kind of said insight between furries as humans as a joke, because they aren't humans. But yeah, i'm with you on this. And I get there's no insight.
And thanks, Tippman357, for the information.
dem snakes be cool, get one
My brother had a royal python (those snakes are really beautiful) which he had to sell because he could not afford a bigger terrarium, since the snake grew up to 1.5 meter.
If I had the time, I would also buy a royal python, but those snakes grow up to 2 meters (which are about 6 ft. ?), but since you don't want a snake
bigger than 2 ft. this most likely, isn't an option.
Smaller snakes, for your information, are more likely to be poisonous, since they don't need the strength and muscles to crush their prey.
Before a snake grows up to 6 feet it will take years. I've had my snake for about 4 years now and it is roughly 4.5 feet.
If you want a shorter snake go for a python like a ball python. Rather than getting long they get fat but it depends on what kind of ball python it is. Some get longer than others.
Plus, you need a permit to own a venomous snake so there is no chance in hell OP will get one
They're not friendly and the motherfuckers molt everywhere. Get a cat.
They're not friendly and the motherfuckers shit everywhere. Get a dog.
Get a green anaconda and train it to crush your enemies. And they are not poisonous, either. I got to hold one at this place one, and it kept wrapping around my neck.
Actually he'll probably just crush you.
Hello facepunchers! Lately, I've been considering buying a snake for a new pet. I'm kind of neutral on snakes, not scared, but not too fond of them, either. I think they are really interesting and am thinking about buying one from a local, reputable, store.
I want to know if you have any experiences with snakes. I don't want a big snake, just one no larger than 2 feet long full length, nothing poisonous or dangerous, and somewhat low maintenance.
Reptiles 101: They will never like you. Ever. It is physically impossible for them to enjoy your presence. The best you can ever hope for is for it to decide that you are more useful than annoying.
Plus you feed them mice. Creatures which actually would be capable of enjoying your presence. Mammals. You traitor.
Get a fucking scorpion. I heard they can be real friendly.
Unless there's food around, then they get aggressive.

Oh, well I was kind of hoping for us to be best friends like in the cartoons..
And..
Get a small snake, train it to move rhythmically up and down a pole, and then have it give you a handjob. I dunno if it'd work, but hey... Free handjob!
I found a snake in my backyard like 6 years ago and I still have it. It's probably 1.5 to 2 feet long.
Sounds awesome, but keeping a snake can be pretty much fucking complex...

I had mice before. They smelled like death. 1 hour after cleaning the cage it smells like ass after they take a piss everywhere
All the snakes posted recently are shit; OP get this snake:

If your worried about how high or low maintenance a pet is then you should not have a pet.
My friend had two snakes.
The first one died in his car. He discovered it after winter.
The second one slithered away while he was playing Xbox.
Go ahead, get a snake.
Cats are low maintenance pets, they're freelance warriors that sleep most of the day and then wake up at night and murder millions of mice. Then they bring one back to you and stare up into your face and say "Look at me daddy! I brought you a present!".
yeah they're badass
What the fuck?! That thing's poisonous!
Get a fucking scorpion. I heard they can be real friendly.

I'm not that knowledgeable about scorpions but I'm quite sure their temperament often depends on their species. I know emperor scorpions are supposed to be quite docile. I have a chilean rose hair tarantula and those are known to be docile as well - the two are actually pretty similar in all aspects.
OP, Keep in mind that for the most part, mammals are the only type of animals that are social. I've never owned a snake so I can't say anything for certain about them, but I've heard tarantulas be compared to a piece of fine art: it's there to look at, but interacting with it doesn't benefit the spider and could possibly damage it.
I'm pretty sure snakes are low maintenance pets. I think you'd do a lot better googling any questions you have than asking FP about them, though. Keep in mind that snakes are cold blooded and generally require a warm environment.
Aside from that.. if you aren't fond of snakes then why do you want one?

Besides the fact that you have to clean the litter box daily, feed it, clean up cat hair, take it to the vet and spend hundreds on vaccinations. Yeah, not high maintenance at all...

If you don't want a snake then get a lizard I guess, if not go for a dog, nothing beats a pet that really likes you!

Unlike a snake cats appear to have emotions, though. They seem happy to have their owners sit there petting them and will roll over and purr contently.
A snake, as has already been stated, might just let you stick around because you're more useful than you are annoying.
Cats are still selfish bastards though.
I love them :3:
Get a corn snake or maybe a milk snake if it's your first.
I really hate cats. :|
my cat knocked over a lamp my mom made herself about 10 years ago earlier this morning and just ran off. I'm pretty mad.
But, if you don't like snakes then you shouldn't get one because they aren't going to like you either.
My cousin has a snake, I think he's a corn snake, and she loves him. He's such a cute little thing, he's never been unfriendly and the worst he gets is a little scared of loud noises or too many people. Snakes are not bad pets.
However they are certainly not low maintainance, and also you have to be ok with feeding them dead mice that still look like dead mice. My cousin pretty much spent two years begging for her snake as a birthday present before finally getting one for her 15th (she's 16 now so she's had him over a year). Her parents were sure she'd get change her mind and they didn't want to get her one for that reason. If you just want a pet for the sake of it, don't get a snake.
I however adore my sweet and lovely two cats :3 who are wonderful, affectionate, funny, cute pets. If people don't want cats it's fine but I still believe they are great pets. Basically, I am trying to defend both snakes and cats as pets.

Exactly, that is how a snake acts. I don't see how that is unfriendly. I also think their eyes are cute.
I agree with the people saying get a corn snake. My neighbors have one and it's pretty cool.
also, they're adorable:

That is basically what my corn snake looks like..
They're awesome and our one can grow up to around 6 feet long too.
^^ That one looks kind of like my cousin's one :)
