My 6 or so year old TV automatically switches sources based on HDMI state and other things. If I am watching DirecTV and I start casting to my Chromecast, it will automatically switch to the Chromecast. Turning on the DirecTV receiver will also switch the source to that.

1, 2 Switch honestly looks really dumb, especially for a full-priced game. Maybe it's more fun to play than look at, but I doubt it.

I dunno about other people but I know for sure I'm probably gonna use it mostly in handheld mode cuz I actually most enjoy playing games on handhelds, they've just never been up to the power I've wanted out of them until the switch.
That being said, I doubt I am gonna take it out of my house much.

There isn't. My phone has an IR blaster and I can program it to turn off a TV in under a minute via a signal database, though.

If the TV has CEC then a device can turn on the tv and switch to that hdmi port or if it's on a different source then it can switch to that one but I don't think it has the ability to turn the tv off.
