I can't describe how badly you've missed the point.
"i disagree with george washington, better go cover the washington monument in shit"
This doesn't change the fact that what you're doing is criticising the monument or its intentions via vandalism. Ergo, you're proving my point.
it wasn't built as a monument
You missed my point there, it became a monument from a certain standpoint. Just think about what the wall represented.

vandalism is the idiot's way of criticism
what better form of criticism from an idiot than brash material damage?
ergo, you're an idiot

it wasn't constructed to honor anyone or anything
therefore it wasn't a monument
what it became has nothing to do with it

Hahahaha. You're a funny one. Look at you! You actually just agreed to the point that I was making. Again! Did I say it was the most intellectual form of criticism? No. What I did say, and what has been my point: it's criticism, not just crime.
I quote the venerable master of protest, intellectualism, and debate:
In Canada a couple years ago some guy got drunk on Canada Day and pissed on the War Memorial. There was no picture taken, but we found out his name and the guy was practically tarred and feathered in the papers, and convicted of something and forced to do community service.
I don't know what the context is, but off hand I'd punch that guy square in the jaw.
Why the fuck would you punch a drunk guy for taking a piss?

It was fought on the 17th, yet small skirmishes and pot-shots went on since the third.

Probably because of the camera that was used. They probably had to stand still for a good 30 seconds or more to get the shot. If Abe decided to adjust his head a bit it would be distorted in the final image. That's also the same way you get your old fashioned ghost pictures.
Not sure if shook the world, considering it happened in eastern europe so a lot of people might not even know about it, but still pretty incredible.

The baltic way in 1989, a peaceful political demonstration (or a protest) that occurred on August 23, 1989. Approximately two million people joined their hands to form a human chain spanning over 600 kilometres (370 mi) across the three Baltic states – Estonian SSR, Latvian SSR, and Lithuanian SSR, republics of the Soviet Union.
Can I post more WWII color photos?

It's hard to consider WWII "real" for our generation when it's in black and white, but when you find yourself looking at these images in color, it brings things into a disturbingly real perspective.
[editline]6th May 2012[/editline]
On that note you can't help but look at the images of the parades and the occupations and wonder, who died in action and who went on to regret their actions?

That's so true. Like this picture of a French soldier in WWI. It does make it seem realer.

Colour photography had been around for decades before WWII but, I assume because it was difficult and expensive, colour pictures from that era are still quite rare.
