I know it's recent and it hasn't had much effect yet, but this really is a painful image.

The remains of the Russian Oscar II class submarine Kursk, that sank on the bottom of the Barents Sea 12th of August 2000 due to explosions caused by on board torpedoes. On board was 118 Russian sailors, where 23 survived the blasts and huddled up in an unaffected compartment of the sub, hoping to be rescued. Several governments offered the Russians to help rescue the survivors, but was refused by the Russian officials. After 4 days the Russians accepted their help. 8 days after the accident, Norwegian divers entered the sub, only to conclude that it was too late.

It feels like only a few years back.
I may be wrong but even if the Nazi's had taken the UK, I really cannot imagine them being able to take the US. The war would probably have just been longer, eventually resulting in the US dropping a Nuke over Germany.
As far as I know the nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki only happened because a former Nazi scientist working on nuclear bombs handed the blueprints and everything over to the alliance.

Really though, pretty sure you're talking about Einstein.

It looks like it's never going to end at this rate. The German soldiers were encouraged to take pictures of their victories. I think most of their pictures that can still be found on Google are taken in the Netherlands and Russia. The pictures taken in the Netherlands usually show friendliness from the Dutch citizens and the German soldiers while in Russia there was usually more hatred.
And that's how we beat the horde. Really though, pretty sure you're talking about Einstein.
I don't think Einstein was working on nuclear bombs. He migrated to America in 1933 when Hitler grew more powerful. He only warned Churchill that the Nazis were working on nuclear bombs. He didn't work on the bombs.
I really believe that he cried because for a second he realized what he has done. In the interview he said that hes proud of himself but thats complete bullshit.
If he would've cried because of what he had done, he would have cried at any other point and not during his own PowerPoint presentation. It's ok that people try to find at least some bit of humanity in that guy, but I'm afraid that there is none to be found.

It's Malcolm X. [editline]14th May 2012[/editline] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_X
He was part of "The Nation of Islam", Basicly a black supremacist religion based loosely on Islam. Malcolm X decided to visit Mecca and found that the teachings of NOI we're nothing like the teachings of other Islamic groups, so he brought this up with the NOIs leader and he got kicked out, had a fatwa or something issued on his head, renounced the black supremacist stuff, and he became a Sunni Muslim. He was assassinated not long after, the photo was taken while he knew he was going to be a target
Speaking of bombings earlier, anyone have photos or Dresden? i lived there for a few years like 2 years ago, and the city has been wonderfully rebuilt.
Straight from wikipedia: [sup](Dresden, 1945, view from the city hall (Rathaus) over the destroyed city (the allegory of goodness in the foreground)[/sup] [sup](Dresden, 1945—over ninety percent of the city centre was destroyed.)[/sup]
It's amazing how now it's a flourishing City.
