Bragg, its tail section almost severed by a collision with an enemy fighter, flew 90 minutes back to its home base, landed safely and broke in two after landing.
http://www.daveswarbirds.com/b-17/fuselag2.htm
Popped into this thread on the ticker accidentally and ended up reading all of it, life is so brutal you can't even put into words. The one thing that gets to me are the people who are absolutely fascinated with images and photos of people dying and being murdered.

One of the most powerful in the thread I think, if you know what the meaning is behind it.
Hopefully this does

(This is from facebook, hopefully you can see it) This had 1.1 million likes on Facebook, and hundreds of thousands of shares. This is relavent to the USA Memorial Day for non-Americans out there. Very moving photo.

I took a day trip to Barcelona, Spain that day and remember it well. It's crazy remembering a specific day so clear as a happy, exciting, careless day, where as somewhere else in the world a man is killed fighting for his country and to people who knew and loved him that day will be specifically remembered as a sad day.

-nvm didn't realize this was late-
Considering how much they "love" war, I guess so.
It's not about war mongering at all. It's about respect for your fellow soldier. In war, you fight to live and protect the lives of other soldiers, and civilians. Apparently you don't get it.

Not sure if you realize this, but joining the military and risking your life and potentially dying for your country is a pretty big sacrifice. People respect our Military here in the US.
that's how [editline]29th May 2012[/editline] Can you actually demonstrate that soldiers protect the lives of civilians back home?
Being a soldier is a job, no one joins to protect their freedom or whatever. Too many people kiss their boots even if they just walked around afghanistan for 6 months
that's how [editline]29th May 2012[/editline] Why do soldiers automatically commandeer respect?
They're giving their lives for their country. Pretty much determines that they deserve respect.
I don't see how this follows. What actual, demonstrably good thing are they achieving by giving their lives for their country?
I don't see how this follows. What actual, demonstrably good thing are they achieving by giving their lives for their country?
Well, I don't speak German and terrorism has been pushed out of the country for the most part.
They're giving their lives for their country. Pretty much determines that they deserve respect.
I disagree that being a solider = giving their life for their country.
Well, I don't speak German and terrorism has been pushed out of the country for the most part.
I'll give you WW2 but that's an exception rather than a rule. However what do you mean by terrorism being pushed out of the country? Did it ever take hold in the first place? Can you please show me a causal link between soldiers joining the army and reduced terrorism?
Well, I don't speak German and terrorism has been pushed out of the country for the most part.
dudes killing brown people in another country, if anything, will increase the risk of terrorism

[editline]29th May 2012[/editline]
I disagree that being a solider = giving their life for their country.
If you join the military, it means you're prepared to give your life for your country. Doing so deserves respect. A person who lives through a war deserves just as much respect as one who didn't.
dudes killing brown people in another country, if anything, will increase the risk of terrorism
There's a little more to it than that... If it would increase the risk, then why has nothing happened in quite a while?
The Taliban was in power in Afghanistan before we deployed troops there, we for the most part pushed them out.
Was the Taliban a threat to the USA? Has the process of removing the Taliban had a benefit on the lives of American citizens? What about Afghan citizens?
If you join the military, it means you're prepared to give your life for your country. Doing so deserves respect.
