is that a stomach on the ground?
jesus...
You think that's bad, I've had to trawl through a lot of the pictures as this is one of the mildest ones.
And now for one of the most graphic ones.

I am departing from this thread forever, got to like page 9, couldn't read any more about people being vaporized by jumping out of the twin towers when they hit the ground. Just wish the world wasn't like this. And then that picture above me in the link set it off for me. ciao.
HAHAHA, What?
Australia is sitting on a nice 22% where as the USA is on a whopping 62%
Nothing compared to the 225% that Japan has, but don't blow your bullshit over my screen.
ooooooh, you Aussies are a touchy bunch.
Sorry read the rankings fast and somehow read Austria (72%) as Australia. The table was alphabetic and there right next to one another.
Sorry for disrespecting your island, here have some Austria in reconciliation:

St. Paul Church miraculously survived the London Blitz as the buildings surrounding the church were completely burned and razed. The photo became known as 'St. Paul Survives.'

Would-be Dutch President Pim Fortuyn lies dead after being shot by nature activist Volkert van de Graaf.
It was 9 days before the election, and many people expected him to win, bringing fresh air to the Dutch politcs , in many peoples opinions.
He was also openly gay, which is totally a-ok in the Netherlands.
However, some of his views were quite controversial, especially against Muslims.
His murderer got off with 18 years in prison, for the first Political murder in the Netherlands after the murder on Netherlands' founder Willem van Oranje.
Which is to be expected from a country which gives the hefty sum of two years for a killing by car, but that is a different story.

Corpse of a man whos face has either been ripped off or pushed inward. It looks like either was too close to the blast or get hit by a big chunk of shrapnel.

I presumed the later - he has no burns at all, which would have happened of there was a bomb

When the anniversary of 9/11 came around last year there was a Time magazine dedicated to the incident, displaying some new (sometimes graphic) pictures regarding the towers and the crews that were working on the ground, etc.
Anyway, they said that the priest in this picture was actually hit in the head by falling debris while he was I think helping victims and firefighters/praying. Killed instantly.

He was helping search for victims and survivors and was struck in the head and died.
They made a documentary about it called Saint of 9/11.
Can we just rename this thread like, "Pictures from around the world"? I think we're past world shaking photos, but I still love this thread.
Why not "moments" instead of "photos"? Most of these are moments or actual events (even though plenty are still photos.) Leaving it as "photos" is like saying that every last picture set the entire world into a sort of biblical awe that would be remembered for centuries from now.
Significant moments of human history?
Or just leave the thread title as it is?

The image is a little grainy (which is odd considering when it was taken), but if you can guess what this is a picture of (without looking at the file name) you win history buff points :v:
Trotsky?
On the morning of Thursday, 7 July 2005, four Islamist home-grown terrorists detonated four bombs, three in quick succession aboard London Underground trains across the city and, later, a fourth on a double-decker bus in Tavistock Square. Fifty-two people, as well as the four bombers, were killed in the attacks, and over 700 more were injured.
Thought this was appropriate given it was 7 years ago yesterday.

Because he wouldn't have seen it coming. A regular axe, sure, but an iceaxe....
