Fuck, the Tommy Cooper video's depressing, so here's some light entertainment!
The Nevermind album cover shows a baby swimming toward a US dollar bill on a fishhook. According to Cobain, he conceived the idea while watching a television program on water births with Grohl. Cobain mentioned it to Geffen's art director Robert Fisher. Fisher found some stock footage of underwater births but they were too graphic for the record company. Also, the stock house that controlled the photo of a swimming baby that they subsequently settled on wanted $7,500 a year for its use, so instead Fisher sent a photographer to a pool for babies to take pictures. Five shots resulted and the band settled on the image of a three-month-old infant named Spencer Elden, the son of the photographer's friend. However, there was some concern because Elden's penis was visible in the image. Geffen prepared an alternate cover without the penis, as they were afraid that it would offend people, but relented when Cobain made it clear that the only compromise he would accept was a sticker covering the penis that would say, "If you're offended by this, you must be a closet pedophile."
Oh my fucking god.
I saw this when I was very young and for whatever reason found it the weirdest thing. It was laying on the floor of my baby sitters house and I have been curious for as long as I can remember what the fuck it was. I wasn't use to seeing a naked baby swimming for a dollar bill.
Also it shocked me because at the age when I saw it I wasn't aware that babies had penises developed.

Fun fact: my grandfather was 20 and lived in Tacoma and was 1/4 of a mile away from the bridge (eye view, probably closer) when this happened.

Holy shit...
I find it strange that it seems people were more concerned about Price's death because he's a driver and famous, but Van Vuuren's death is just way, way worse...

It took so many deaths to bring formula 1 up to standard. luckily since Ayrton died, there have been no fatalities
While it's not F1, Dan Wheldon died a few months back in a big Indycar wreck

Also, to complement this: Henri Toivonen's Death that killed Group B

And how the people in every country that the rallies ran in were nuts to the point of sitting on the side of the road, which ended up with Joaquim Santos plowing through 30 people in his Ford RS200, killing 3

Group B was amazing, it attracted more spectators than any other rally series before it. it introduced things like 4WD to road cars and combo chargers, A super charger with a turbo often cars made 500 bhp+. However the numerous spectators close to the track (even on it) lead to its death. You can see many videos where the track is just a sea of spectators opening and closing to let the cars through sort of like Moses splitting the ocea. Spectators often tried to touch the cars.
Every racing death didn't shake the world, and I don't want racing deaths to become the next 9/11 jumpers.
I'd like to update my statement from a number of pages ago:
Pictures that shook the world: Terrible atrocities, shining moments of human kindness, people winning at sport and CAR CRASHES!
God i feel sorry for the drivers that rush to the other drivers aid and failed to save them. How do you live on with that memory burned in?

My parents actually saw those cars live here in portugal, and said there were people constantly trying to touch them AS THEY DRIFTED PAST.
And the sport was going to get even more insane, Audi's S1 was going to start racing with over 650 HP to fight the peugeot and lancia's shorter wheelbase, the Lancia S4 was going to get evolved into the ECV, completely made of carbon, weighing about 800 kg with an 800 HP combo-charged 4 cyllinder 1.8 engine, the Austin Metro was going to get a turbo into that insane 3 liter V6, the Pug 205 was already almost perfect handling wise

Well, here's another not-iconic-but-still-cool photo:
A recently unearthed photo of Chopin, taken 2 years before his death (there exists a later photo of Chopin taken a year before his death).

He still looks kinda healthy. You wouldn't think he would die 2 years after this photo was taken.
Agreed, but compare it to the later photo and it's almost terrifying how much one can deteriorate in such a small time span.
Maybe it didnt shake the whole world, but it definetly shook up me and my brother.
On May 23, 1999, Owen Hart fell to his death in Kansas City, Missouri during the Over the Edge pay-per-view event. Hart was in the process of being lowered via harness and rappel line into the ring from the rafters of Kemper Arena for a booked Intercontinental Championship match before the harness snapped, causing him to fall, hitting his neck off the turnbuckle. Referees rushed into the arena, giving him CPR, before he was rushed to hospital. He died later that night. Poor guy.
There are no videos of it happening, but there are pictures of him in the ring, and on the rafters. This is a recording of what people were seeing on TV as it all happened.

This is him, just seconds after he fell.
