A build up of corium underneath the reactor.
Had to be taken with a mirror from around a corner because the radiation coming off of it destroyed cameras.
Wow so they really weren't kidding about it melting down, I never thought it actually melted this far and did shit like this. That's brutal.
On a lighter note.
Shitting fuck. I new S.T.A.L.K.E.R had elements of truth, but I assumed it was highly exaggerated for effect. I had no idea reality wasn't far off...
Well, in S.T.A.L.K.E.R a second reactor fictionally explodes, therefore creating a much larger impact on the area, hence the over-exaggerated mutations, etc.
Wow so they really weren't kidding about it melting down, I never thought it actually melted this far and did shit like this. That's brutal.
A "true" meltdown is when the radioactive core melts its way down to the water table, where it flash vaporises and disperses hundreds of tonnes of radioactive material into the atmosphere. Thankfully it's never happened
About Chernobyl, here are two really good documentaries about it.

Can we at least tag the Chernobyl stuff? Some of it's really disturbing.

The deformity stuff at least.

You should know most of this shit is disturbing as hell, considering previous content, shouldn't you?

Yeah, but I don't need to see children in constant pain and misery.

Yeah it's not just small elements, the majority of the locations are taken and remodelled almost exactly how they look like today also the mutants are very close to the pictures you see of the children (exaggerated but still close) which is why it's considered an extremely atmospheric game because it's close to the real life scenario.
The documentaries you posted Araknid are pretty damn good, I recommend watching them
Even if people tag it people will look at it out of curiosity

yeah, the dev team actually made a bunch of trips to the Zone. the game locations are copied from the real ones, just pushed closer together.

sorry but that's total bullshit

Not the explosion itself, but all the radioactive material coming out of it would have pretty much made most of Belarus and everything in the area upwind of Chernobyl NPP uninhabitable for miles, probably right up north to the sea.

yeah but they made it sound like it would be an actual fission explosion with a fireball and mushroom cloud
yeah but they made it sound like it would be an actual fission explosion with a fireball and mushroom cloud
If you watched the whole thing they said its reach would have covered the whole of Europe. Could be taken many ways, but they never said it would explode that big.
I know it didn't shake the world, but it shook the video section for a week a year ago.

I did a paper on Chernobyl. The explosion itself was caused by an otherwise rushed build and design of the reactor due to the pressure of the Cold War. Today, the surrounding environments are just starting to show real signs of recovery through returning wildlife, both in terms of animals and plants.

oh and it crippled the soviet economy

Also didn't shake the world or anything as well, but interesting and something i think everyone needs to see, regardless.

This music video from my favourite vocalist of all time REALLY shows and lists a lot of actual shocking facts about what we are doing to this world. In other words, we are fucking it up, basically. Not a photo I know, but I think it will make us ALL stop and really think of what is going on, if the world watches it that is.

Makes me wonder if there still are amazing places like this waiting to be discovered.

With satellite imaging and the vast amount of aircraft in the skies, I expect we've probably found just about everything on that scale. I'm sure there are still amazing things to be found, but we're long past the days where epic foot expeditions were the only way to find those never-before-seen ancient cities.
nothing weirds me more than seeing these gasmasks all over the place in chernobyl/pripyat
I mean, why are they there

personally I think GSC did a good job at making stalker, even if [sp]monoliths and common conciousness[/sp] (plot related spoilers) and bloodsuckers seem a little far-fetched.
Well, a game needs some fun things.
dont talk shit about monoliths,c-conc, and bloodsuckers like that again
bich
All glory the monolith.
anyway this is not the stalker thread
