hot diggidy he died on my birthday (april 5th)
They entered a church in Russia with balaclavas and did a song that basically protested against Putin and the Church's relationship with him. They were arrested and now have been charged with 'hooliganism', kind of a good show of how hard Putin is cracking the whip against opposers of his regime. However, I believe they were in the wrong about their way to protest. You don't interrupt service with masks on and play music to those there to do their business.
Many people in the church at the time though they were terrorists when they entered.
Many people in the church at the time though they were terrorists when they entered.
You can't blame them really, although the only thing imposing about them was the masks as they wore normal clothes and had no real weapons. I think they aren't very smart in how they chose to express their freedom of speech and the location in which to do so from, but Putin's response to the whole trial has been nothing short of belittling. Its like he is a King looking down on serfs and saying, 'oh they were just speaking their feeble minds, go easy on them'.

Putin doesn't have to do anything with this, it's the people that were fucking insulted by a group of punk cunts entering one of the main churches in Moscow and all of Russia and doing shit. Just throwing this out there, but if you think that a terrorist is going to wear a brightly-colored baklava and what look to be colored tights and sun dresses, then you're not the brightest bulb in the hardware store. [editline]18th August 2012[/editline] Also that looks more like poorly coordinated dancing than anything else. Doesn't exactly seem to warrant a jail sentence, in my opinion.
Hurr, someone insulted my religion so I gotta send them to jail You're a fucking moron
no but the charge of "hooliganism" is apt, at least in English. I don't know what connotations that word has in Russian though (if any)
Hurr, someone insulted my religion so I gotta send them to jail You're a fucking moron
Same thing would happen in US if they did it there and you know it.
So, if this is pretty much just "Historical pictures: The thread" I might try and dick up some really nice but rather obscure stuff. In fact, if anybody wants me to do some stuff around things like DUGA-3, I'm more than happy too. It's very interesting to read.

DUGA-3, also given the NATO reporting name of the "Steel Yard" is part of the soviet ABM early warning network. It was an over the horizon radar, made to detect incoming nuclear missiles. It made a sharp, repetitive tapping noise at 10Hz. One of the really interesting things is this: It had a very, very high power output (Sometimes reaching over 10MW) so it would interfere with amateur radio users and even televisions, which made some company's include woodpecker blankers in the design. Some also believed the purpose was to control the weather, and some even though they were doing mind control experiments. Some radio users eventually got so sick of the interference, they created the "Woodpecker Hunting Club" and would attempt to jam the signal. The site lies within the 30 kilometre zone of alienation thanks to the Chernobyl accident. It was deactivated in the late 1980's, but it still stands and is heavily photographed and used as an antenna for shortwave radio users. Duga-03 can also be found in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, labelled as the Brain Scorcher. I haven't even touched on the really good and really creepy shit.
I am not sure, but I think that belongs here.
It's a dead thread, and its not unexplained. Thing is, the thread isn't about photos that shook the world, its more like "Historical events and shit." I just figured I'd contribute.

It's 50 pages long, folks are probably presuming all the 'good stuff' has been taken.
I want to visit Duga-3 and the Zone one day.
Shit, it's crazy how much effort was put in STALKER to make it believable. I wonder what inspired the Agropom Institute in the game, along with all the laboratories and if they're based on real Soviet experiments. [editline]18th August 2012[/editline] Hm, it seems Duga-3 was only included in Clear Sky, in the city of Limansk. I've seen it too in the game, but I thought it was the Brain Scorcher. The Scorcher is a seperate device, apparently.
You seem to think that Russia and Putin's administration isn't corrupt to the core, and these girls will get a fair trial.
Propaganda is a powerful tool to say it short.
You seem to think that Russia and Putin's administration isn't corrupt to the core, and these girls will get a fair trial.
um maybe because I live here?
um maybe because I live here?
So you are a nationalist of a corrupt country? I can clearly see something is wrong. These girls weren't fighting the country, they were expressing their opinion toward Putin in an uncontroversial way and there is no reason to arrest them for that. Not even the frozen chicken thing. Just as an example, Breivik was against Norwegian values we are used to in our politics today, but he expressed it in a way considered horrible. These girls just went in a church and simply gave their opinion, no murder were involved, why arrest them?

I know this does belong in the other thread, but who wants a very large and informative post on number stations? It's that, or really creepy abandoned places and urban legends and stuff. Agree for number stations, disagree for creepy abandoned places and urban legends.
Lol nice work bringing bestgore up dumbass I can watch gore without much of a reaction but I feel if you go looking for gore you are kind of messed up. Not sure if this is becoming general history or not... After the German surrender at the end of WW2 around 60 German U-boats were rounded up in Lisahally, Londonderry after the Kriegsmarine surrendered. Now instead of putting these perfectly good submarines in a museum or repainting them in royal navy colors they decided they would tow them out to the irish sea and use remaining shells and artillery fire from british ships to sink them all Now I guess there is 60 german U-boats at the bottom of the Irish sea somewhere... waiting to be be restored.
Why would they put them in a museum? At the time they were just enemy submarines with no real historical value. It's like complaining about the US destroying ammo dumps in Afghanistan rather than putting them in museums.
Still doesn't constitute 2 years in prison though
I never said it did, but it is a legitimate crime and they were in the wrong in how they chose to protest.
DUGA-3
It looks like the giant metal structure in the anime Area 88 that was meant to destroy enemy aircraft at night Don't know what the thing in the anime is called but DUGA-3 looks similar to it
I thought I'd just put this here: these are not individual missiles, they all come from one peacekeeper missile. It is called a MIRV, it launches multiple (up to 12) nuclear warheads from one single missile. this is from wikipedia: Testing of the Peacekeeper re-entry vehicles, all eight (twelve capable) fired from only one missile. Each line represents the path of a warhead which, if it were live, would detonate with the explosive power of twenty-five Hiroshima-style weapons. What makes this even more scary is that if one missile is able to launch up to 12 nuclear warheads, the amount of destruction and annihilation that would be unleashed if the USA would decide to fire more than one missile, there would be absolutely nothing left of this planet. Also you have to keep in mind that this is last generation stuff, now we have even more powerful missiles and warheads..
