I would imagine that war is generally 'shitty'.
Yes but the Winter War was shitty for even a war. Sure, there were shittier wars, but the Winter War was definitely very shitty.
It's a shame that this happened, and that the Finns and Russians still have shitty relations. Both sides seemed to have done terrible things, and it was a shitty war in general.
The Finns didn't do anything 'terrible'. They were attacked by Soviets, for no reason and during the war they pretty much only defended their land, they had the chance to Leningrad and cut the Murmansk railroad and Hitler asked them to do it but they refused because they just wanted to be left alone and stay neutral, a wish that Stalin could not respect and attacked them again. Well unless you consider executing Soviet scum who bombarded your village terrible. [editline]15th September 2012[/editline]
Yes but the Winter War was shitty for even a war. Need more World War I pictures in this thread. Everyone has seen and heard of everything in regards to World War II.
I personally love everything about WWII. I could dig through old photo archives of it all day long, it's so cool to see the war from all perspectives and factions. I'll see if I can dig up some WWI photos and Vietnam photos next time I feel like searching for pictures.
Last WWII pic I swear A Maus tank (200 ton German super heavy) during trials, crossing a small bridge.
what happened to woodnath's history lessons? :saddowns:
Woodnath? That's a new one. Anyway... Imagine you're in China, and you're taking a boat ride and what the fuck is that? This is Fengdu, a 2,000 year old ghost town. This is what the Chinese believe to be a link between this life and the after life. So, of course, there are temples. Now, what would a 2,000 year old temple with a link to this life and the after life contain? Of course, little statues of demons. This is pretty much as close as you're going to get to hell on Earth, without being on a crowded bullet train. As of yet, I can't find much information on this because I'm in a bit of a rush right now, but have these two images, sure to give at least 25% of you nightmares!
Woodnath? That's a new one.
Oh wow how did I mess that up. I control F'd for quite a few pages to find your name. ooops
I colorized this A7V (WW1 tank) on photoshop
The exact tank is Tank #506, codenamed "Mephisto." This is the later version, currently being displayed at the Queensland Museum of History.
What happened?
You could always just search The Hillsborough Disaster. Basically football crowd control was nonexistent in the stadium and hundreds of fans and spectators were injured with several deaths from the overcrowding, leaving many people distraught and pretty much shellshocked.
It's a shame that this happened, and that the Finns and Russians still have shitty relations. Both sides seemed to have done terrible things, and it was a shitty war in general.
We don't have shitty relations on the overall level, alot of russians come to Finland as tourists and buy property from along the eastern border.

Basically football crowd control was nonexistent in the stadium and hundreds of fans and spectators were injured with several deaths from the overcrowding, leaving many people distraught and pretty much shellshocked.
And the media (esp. the Sun) made it look as though it was the crowd's fault rather than the police's
What happened?
The police opened extra entrances into an already over crowded stadium and didn't check tickets, letting it become over crowded and 96 people were killed. Police thought it was a pitch invasion and so pushed people back into the crowds and refused to let ambulances into the stadium. They told the media and the courts that people were drunk and being rowdy, attacking the police. It was revealed after 23 years that police changed victim statements, lied to the media and courts that it was the fault of the fans and not them, that over half of the dead could have been saved if the paramedics were allowed in, and that the coroner reported none of the dead had been drinking more than expected, but the police didn't reveal this. The government claims they played no part in the cover-up, although they refused to release any information until now. It was also revealed that the courts knew about it 14 years ago but didn't pursue it.
Trotskij is visible to the right of lenin on the steps to the podium. After Stalin takes the power after Lenins death he erases Trotskij from the Soviet/Russian Revolution history books. Same image, no Trotskij.
Wasn't there a picture where Stalin was at a table some some important Soviet guys and eventually they were one by one taken out of the picture?
It's pretty dumb to say winter and continuation wars were just a cakewalk where the proud finnish soldier drove back the soviet scum in droves.
Winter war was fucked up for Soviets. Not that bad for Finns. Continuation war was fucked up for both sides until the end, where Finns managed to do better. Of course I am speaking of "good" as in good as it gets in a fucking war. Of course its always shitty to be in a war.
It's hard to have a war in so much snow.
It's hard to have a war in so much snow.
Been on a winter warfare training exercise and fighting and living in snow is hell. I cringe at the thought of having to camp out in the snow for more than two days.
Winter war sucked for everyone involved. Even though the Finns weren't slaughtered like sheep like Ivan was, a lot of the time they still had to deal with trench warfare in the dead of winter.

Called it "de-stalinization" or something.
