The only image from the surface of a planetary body outside the inner Solar System. This is Jupiter's moon, Titan.

And holy shit I knew people jumped from the towers but I never figured that that is what happened to them and of how many pictures there are of those poor souls.
What event was this picture taken from?
Find it ridiculous Facepunch agreed a lot on not knowing the South Vietnam General's execution of POW but, obviously, think it's stupid not to know Buddist crysis photo.
Great thread, can't wait to see more posts.

John Lennon and Yoko One. For me, at least this is important because it was taken on December 8th 1980, the day he died.

A photograph of Myra Hindley upon her arrest - she killed several children with her accomplice, Ian Brady, in what was called the `Moors Murders`. Branded as `the most woman in Britain, this was easily one of the most famous photos of the 1960's and is still one of the most recognizable photos of a person - in Britain at any rate.
A mother and her daughter are hurled off a collapsing fire-escape in an apartment house fire. Together with a fire-fighter, they waited for the rescue ladder to reach them. As the fire-fighter climbed onto the ladder, the fire-escape collapsed under their feet and they fell to the ground five floors below. The woman was killed but the child survived, her fall cushioned by the woman's body. Boston, USA
Updated mine.
My response to the 9/11 jumpers
I didn't think that the body could gib and liquify so greatly from a fall/blunt force trauma.
I would think maybe decapitations/amputations from the force, serious compound fractures, collapsed chest cavities and crushed skulls, shredded skin and bones and abrasions/lacerations. Not liquid fat, blood, and oil.
I really like the pictures of the various factions together during WW2.
I agree, can anyone post more? Really reminds you that wars are not fought by nations, but by individuals.
I always thought this was a pretty cool one

If this was a Jumper discussion thread or something I'd post examples of falls from twenty stories with pretty graphic outcomes. If you see a fall from twenty stories and what happened to the body when it hit the ground there won't be any doubt that after a hundred stories a body would explode, liquify, mist and shred it's self.
Alot of it has to do with how extensive the damage is from that force. Basically the bones shatter and the bone marrow seeps out, mixes with the blood which at this point as mostly misted and along with fatty tissues and natural oils creates that weird gooey substance. Also consider that organs are horribly destroyed during this process as are the substances inside of them.
The clothes of the Jumpers are shredded when they land as well, the force of the skin and muscle hitting pushes and rips the fabric apart. This is a picture from 9-11 of a woman's leg laying on the street. The same thing happened to the Jumpers on a much larger scale. Some of the Jumpers landed and were basically just piles of mess inside of torn up clothes but a lot of the Jumpers had already stripped themselves down prior to jumping because of the intense heat on some of those floors.

Chests collapse, heads explode although sometimes they ended up being one of the few things to survive depending on how they landed. Arms and legs were torn off and thrown about, again, depends on how they land. Teeth and eyeballs survived remarkably well.
At least you can take some slight solace in that death upon impact is instantaneous.
I just didn't know that the body could mystify or liquify from just falling, that's something i would expect from an explosion.
Well think about it, it kinda is an explosion. An explosion is just a big concussive wave with some shrapnel thrown in. Hitting the ground from 100+ stories up is going really really fast then stopping all of a sudden.
Think of a car crash. Even if both vehicles are only going 40, the vehicles can both be quite badly damaged.
00:49 at almost the center of the screen you'll see a Jumper hit a railing and explode, you'll see the mist of the blood and hear the sound of the body hitting the railing, which I have a picture of, they bent it pretty badly. About a dozen Jumpers landed in this particular area.
This is the best example I have for the mystifying of blood. When the Jumper hits the railing you can see his/her blood mist.
If you still have doubts or reservations I can quote some examples of falls from fractions of the height where the results were pretty damn graphic. I'll have to tag them or something though since they're not images that shook the world.
Nah. I don't have doubts, i am just surprised what such forces can do.
Sorry but those images are a bit shocking. I don't know if people just coming into this thread would be expecting to see that.
Jeez. These 9/11 images almost completely change my opinion about the brutality of that day.
legitimately feel kinda sick seeing/reading all of that.
It's just amazing how, instantaneously, a living, breathing, thinking, complex individual with friends, family; a consciousness...turns into a congealed mess of fats and proteins upon impact. The moment of impact where it is registered but the brain is not destroyed must be so inconceivably painful.
Condolences to them :(

This video really gets to me.
[editline]23rd April 2012[/editline]
I find a lot of the comments on these videos sickening.
Oh fucking god I just watched that video of that jumper hitting the fence.
Never once thought I could be so utterly frightened of a sound. It almost sounded like a hammer hitting an anvil, except you know that's not a hammer hitting an anvil, it's a human body hitting steel at insane velocities. Holy shit
I used to make jokes about 9/11. I can't believe I did after seeing these pictures. Fuck, fuck, fuck.
Seeing these pictures and videos makes it a whole lot more real than seeing it on the news.
[editline]23rd April 2012[/editline]
Also about that video, the way the mistified blood spreads out, it looks like body parts were bound to turn into a projectile all over the plaza. I'm not surprised if it hit someone...
