How to be a badass general: Lead from a tank, not from a desk.
I never liked Patton. Credit where credit's due, he was a brilliant general, but I always thought Bradley was better. Just don't really take a shine to him. Zhukov and Rommel, best general all generals [editline]29th October 2012[/editline] And Montgomery, what what
Wasn't the Marketgarden fuck up Montgomery's idea?
Not a clue - still, he was responsible for El Alamein
Wasn't the Marketgarden fuck up Montgomery's idea?
The Market Garden fuck up was pretty much Montgomery in general. Added onto that was his idiocy at the Bulge.
Not a clue - still, he was responsible for El Alamein
El Alamein was really just a big stroke of luck, Hitler ordered Rommel back from the front because he had the sniffles. Probably the biggest reason why the allies won at El Alamein.
god bless usa
Either that post full of nazi stuff ninjad you, or you just made a somewhat witty reference to how little the US helped in the earlier years of the war.

Those are some vicious looking nazis bro
Either that post full of nazi stuff ninjad you, or you just made a somewhat witty reference to how little the US helped in the earlier years of the war.
Yeah, stupid Americans not entering the war until after 1944!
My grandpa always said this "What made us win WWII? The atlantic and the pacific. It gave us enough time to get our shit in one sock"
god bless usa
While the US played a major part in the European Theater, I wouldn't really consider them the sole reason for Nazi defeat. When it comes to WWII, I attribute US victory over Japan as more significant than over Germany. The Nazis had a flood of Russians coming in from the east with the US eating at its underbelly in Africa and Italy. On the other hand, the Pacific Theater had other countries than the US and Japan, but the US had a much, much bigger role comparatively.
This talk about generals reminds me of Sports commentators :v:
I will, however, support the theory that the United States is the only thing that prevented Europe from going completely red after WWII :v:
Churchill didn't trust Stalin at all. The Germans and Soviets already had a non-aggression pact, and Churchill wouldn't be surprised if Hitler just said to Stalin "You own everything west of Leningrad, including Moscow", and wheeled around to invade the rest of Europe.
I will, however, support the theory that the United States is the only thing that prevented Europe from going completely red after WWII :v:
That's what i thought when i red that. But the other person is also right. What about all the resistance fighters in all the countries. Sure, they wouldn't have defeated the Nazi's without the help of the American country's but they sure did take part in it. For example: There's a swampy forest near me. There where reports that entire German 'squads' where wiped out by the resistance fighters there. I think that in the end the Germans avoided going through those swamps at all because it just wasn't worth the risk. That swamp later became known as one of the bigger resistance hideouts. ps: I love this thread. So many interesting things i never heard about!

not really historical or earth shattering or anything It's kind of eerie to see one of the most lively and energetic places on the planet completely abandoned. It's like some "I am legend" stuff.
My grandpa always said this "What made us win WWII?"
In Europe we like to say the Soviets.
The English had no role in it?
Without American material assistance? Not really. They were barely hanging on by a thread as it was against Nazi Germany because of the raids and the attacks on the trading routes. The Lend-Lease program basically kept England armed. I'm not underestimating the bravery and the tenacity of the British, I'm just simply saying that they did not have the material resources to fight Germany by themselves, let alone both Germany and the Soviet Union.
