It's not impressive, but it's very solid in the way that it works quite like a FPS but it isn't. It combines both RPG "sit-back" elements (with getting the weapons) and a combination of your own skill. Definitely better than EVE, that doesn't involve any real skill, just attributes on a server + luck.
The biggest problem with Freelancer is that it wasn't balanced and it lacked variety in gameplay, I will admit.
Eve is a different game why are people comparing it, they're two different audiences really.

It's like saying books are bad, because you don't get any physical exercise while reading them.
EVE is not a difficult game, and if you haven't played it since the most recent expansion, I urge you to try it again. The gameplay has improved for new-players, you can progress MUCH quicker than you can since recent expansions. The UI takes maybe a week to get used to at most, you'll be able to navigate it with little incident in no time at all. If you do decide to play, venture out beyond the mining and missioning aspects of the game. There is so much more to do than everyone who bashes on the game lets on to, the game is by no means "spreadsheets in space."
And so as not to derail the thread, if you get into the beta, why not try playing it in conjunction with EVE? See which YOU think is better, maybe there is something found in black-prophecy that EVE could benefit from, or vice versa...
But, but, I like EVE online :saddowns:

Oh hey man it's Apocrypha totally different!
Oh hey man it's Dominion totally different!
Oh hey man it's Tyrannis totally different!
So totally not falling for that trick again.

I played EVE for a good year, it's as boring as fuck.
The whole waiting for a skill to train shit is stupid and just a ploy to get people to continue to play the game, and this means less skill involved in playing the game.
It takes ages to get from one place to another, and all the missions just repeat themselves "go take out this pirate camp","Go kill the traitor", "go take out this pirate camp",
"Go kill the traitor".
Stop trying to convert people to EVE and let them have their own opinions. Just because its a MMO in space doesn't instantly make it EVE.
Infact, after watching the gameplay videos, it's nothing like EVE.

It should not take a week to learn a UI.
Eve is a different game why are people comparing it, they're two different audiences really.
No they aren't and no it isn't. It's an open world space sim, they're in short supply and the audience will take anything they can get.
imo eve is more realistic.
The graphics are the only thing going for this, Think freelancer. Except they traded gameplay for graphics and that's Black prophecy for ya. It only has a go here, kill these guys, go back. No travel at all, same battles, same ships, a few weapons, that's about it.

Eve pretty much covers every single base of space... stuff: mining, killing pirates, exploration, planet harvesting, so on and so forth. the only thing it honestly lacks is more immersion, like more realistic looking ships, and belts that extend the entire planet circumference. And hitboxes.
imo eve is more realistic.
Yeah it's like real life, except more boring. TBH if you honestly enjoy the economics of EVE can't you try learning about actual economics and doing some stuff with real tangible benefits without having to float through a black void all day staring and excel spreadsheets and dealing with corp members whose egos increase exponentially with the size of their ship? I mean goddamn the first time I saw a guy in a titan he was the biggest piece of shit I've ever heard speaking in my life, TO HIS OWN CORP. I later realized they were pretty much all like this.

yeah you've never played because that isn't eve at all. Eve is about lust, the lust for bigger, more powerful things, and money. Sure, you can sit and stare at sheets but i'd rather go out and shoot shit in a poorly fitted battleship that barely gets the job done, than sit in a station in a brand new, tech 2 frig with all faction/t2 gear and fuck with sell/buy orders. So go fuck yourself, i find eve fun and so do lots of other people. The reason why people like it is because we don't have to deal with 'if i can't have it now it's a waste of time' people like you. :colbert:

Are you daft? Each and every one of those expansions offered something different. Okay, you might have me on Apocrypha, mining and killing rats all the same, but it did offer some cool new ships. The other 2 expansions however have totally changed gameplay! Have you ever left high-sec? Let me tell you, dominion brought something ENTIRELY new to the table for EVERY player in the game, believe it or not, smaller corporations aspiring to get into 0.0 are MORE than capable of doing so. Don't even get me started on Tyrannis...
Not to mention Incursion, yet again CCP has changed a lot of EVE. They have COMPLETELY done away with learning skills to make it easier for the new player, sure that might not mean much to you, but all of the people who whine about training learning skills for a month no longer have a valid argument. Of course there is the actual content in the patch as well! A new character development system as well as a customizable UI to, again, make things easier for new players. As well as the Sansha incursions that will begin in high-sec come January.
Overall, how the hell can you say that at least 2/3 of those expansions haven't changed EVE drastically?

Holy fuck, missioning for a year? Yah, that would be boring as all hell. Did you ever try venturing out into null-sec? Low-sec even? And when was I not letting people have their opinions? I am sharing mine just as much as you are yours, I just want people to have a reason to try out the game...
I feel like I just witnessed a rehash of the SNES vs Genesis fanboy arguments.

Amen - maybe these kids could actually afford to get out into the real world or study the sciences and create something other than imaginary armadas that were imagined by someone else in the first place.
I'm sad to see that the Oblivion engine can do this, compared to what it did in Oblivion.
EvE is boring due to the combat, full stop (when you command an entire fleet then of course it should be like a RTS, but when you are on a single ship, ordering it around is just boring). That and I don't really have all that time to pour into a single game (and I do get bored after a while, considering the rewards aren't worth the trouble).

You have no idea what the fuck you are talking about.
EVE is like Star Trek while this game is like Star Wars (first 3 movies).
No this game is more like that bad star wars rip off nobody remembers.

What, that the combat is boring or that you have to pour insane amounts of time into the game?
It's called EVE online, thank you very much...
Rate dumb if you never left high-sec.
EVE, spreadsheets in disguise.

That isn't even my point at all my point is in the end it's still the same boring shit no matter what it is you are doing, and some new features will never change that.
A game is a grindfest if you make it a grindfest.
Half-Life 2: Episode Two? I'm killing tons of enemies with a few scripted events here and there to make it seem interesting. In the grand scheme of things, I'm just grinding to get to the end of the game. However, I'm sure none of us saw the game like that because we were so captivated at the fact the game was actually released and we were having too much fun killing Striders with the Magnusson device.
EVE Online is considered to be a grindfest for one reason, it's boring 99% of the time. It has its moments, but the only way to have fun in EVE Online is to try to make your own fun. Did you think the developers called the universe in EVE the sandbox for no reason? If the only aspect you think EVE consists of is click, mine, click, dock, sell, then you should have expanded your horizons.

No it's about screwing over as many people as possible while you watch a piece of metal float through black void. Good for you though on enjoying that horrible piece of shit, you're of a small minority of people who enjoy advancing your character by picking a square, putting it into a queue, and coming back 2 days later.
[editline]26th December 2010[/editline]
And before you question how much I've played I played for months, MONTHS, in high sec, and in low sec, before realizing how much time I wasted playing a huge piece of shit. The friend who got me in spent over a year before he finally lost pretty much everything and decided to stop paying $15 for the same fucking game every month.
Yes, because you obviously speak for the majority of the entire EVE Online community.

Sorry for being mature and having patience to play a game I like. You can go back to COD now.
I like how this thread has turned from a person being excited for a good looking MMO (or at least a video of one) to everyone whining and bitching about a completely different game, that goes for people on both side of the arguement.
Don't derail a perfectly good thread like this, please. We already have enough of this shit all over FP.
To comment on the OP: it reminded me that I was invited to the closed beta but never actually tried it out, might aswell since it looks awesome.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
