It's funny how idiot was used as a medical term.

Idiot was used for people with an IQ between 0 and 25. They also used imbecile (IQ 26-50) and moron (IQ 51-70). A Mongolian idiot is the outdated term for a person with Down's syndrome.

Most of these terms eventually were replaced with the term "mentally retarded", because they had too many negative connotations. Now that term is getting outdated too.
