I'm not sure how he could permaban someone from playing GMod.....
Why not..
Why not..
If he could, Valve wouldn't let him sell the game for 10 dollars. It's economically counterintuitive to deliberately allow yourself to lose customers
oh guess i better call up valve and let them know VAC is economically counterintuitive
Wow, what the hell, facepunch. you just deleted my post. one second...
Monopoly means they are the only version of that service.
so Gamersgate, GMG, impulse, d2d, and origin all dont count?
Why not..
because if he built something into gmod that checks the steamid of the owner and disallows them access he would no longer have that on the steam store
Okay what were you saying.
Because to me it doesn't look like your saying anything.
What I was saying was valve is practically worshipped for not doing much, and EA, Ubisoft, Bioware, Etc. are demonized for making small mistakes. They may be dicks about it, but at least they don't feign a deep love for their community.

none of those have enough users to compete, because everyone moved to steam.

so there are no games on steam with their own banning systems?

thanks to this post i have now learned
1. people like valve even there is definitely now what they could ever have a good reason for liking valve.
2. Companies gain a bad reputation from doing stupid things over and over.
3. Deleting users origin accounts for saying a bad word on a forum is okay because they don't feign a deep love for their community
4. #3 gives them right to be dicks
5. Valve has no competition. (the other services dont count since they are not as big as steam)
What a double standard you guys have. steam does it? "oh, it's ok, they'll fix it right up!" EA (or ubisoft, or whatever) does it? "OMG DEY R TEH WURST EVR I NEVR BYING GAMS FRUM DEM AGIN!!!11"
There's one, super important difference: EA bans you from playing your games, not just the forums (as in, poof goes your EA account); whereas with Valve, forum accounts and Steam accounts aren't linked in any way, so a ban on the forums is just that, a ban from posting on the forums (which, aside from finding steam skins, are generally shit anyway).
Additionally, I can't say I even fully understand what the OP was talking about or why they got banned, whereas there have been a lot of reports about unjust EA bans, so there's that too.

Valve is "worshiped" because, in general, they are one of the best, if not the best company around in the PC game development and distribution market, at least in terms of customer satisfaction. They don't have bad DRM, they don't overcharge for their games, they seem in touch with the community; sure, steam support tends to suck but aside from that.
Not to mention the deals, which is probably why no one can effectively compete with them.
Honestly, Valve is just better because they seem to get it; it's hard to describe, but they come off less as a major company just wanting more money and, more like an up and coming company who's still in touch with their community.
Not blaming you for anything, but why request both their username and email? You could just invite them to a group on steam or just email them.
Sucks that you got banned. Completely unjustified. Take it up with steam support.

how does that have anything to do with his post?
Ok, go back and read all my posts again, because either you didn't get what I was saying, or you're being an idiot on purpose.
Hey maybe if i rate him dumb instead of coming up with a real argument that will sure show him how right i am!!!

Now you're just being a dick in place of an argument. Nice.
Windows holds 80% of the market-share and the various MAC OS' hold about 10%. They are still a competitor.
Steam Support sucks because Valve is very small. They have one of the highest employee-profit ratios in the world (Less employees with more profit).
Every company has problems. However, I've had many more issues with EA and Activision/Blizzard than I have with Valve (Blizzard once false-charged me, EA too many to list, ditto for Acti)
Steam is not a monopoly if it allows other competitors. Battlefield 3 is only available on Origin, etc etc.
Steam may be DRM but the restrictions are minimal. It's merely a CD-Key register system, very similar to Blizzard's Battle.net account. The individual games are largely (if not completely) DRM-free.
Gabe has emailed me back personally, and even referred me to the head of the Valve Store when I mentioned that the headcrub plushie was out of stock. He responded too.
I've spent hours trying to get a response about fixing the issues with the PC version of Black Ops, including posting petitions on twitter and facebook to them that have 250,000+ signatures. Not a single reply, EVER. They don't respond through email, twitter, facebook, or their forum.
Steam IS DRM, Why does NO ONE get that.
Still better than Origin.
If I get banned from their forums, I can't play singleplayer.
If I get banned from SPUF (why the fuck would I go there), I can still play my steam games in multiplayer. (And single player, top that, Origin.)
If I get VAC Banned (why the fuck would I cheat), I can still play my games, but not in VAC secured servers.
If for some reason, Steam decides to randomly lock down my account (they are entitled to do that in their ToS anyways), I lose all my games I was subscribed to. (That's right, you don't own the games you buy) Thing is, I can trust Steam way more than Origin. They aren't random dicks.
Plus, I don't think we ever said that Steam wasn't DRM. We are just saying it's better than origin.

Wait, I just got it, you need to phrase your stuff better man.
Those people advertised Steam as lacking DRM measures?
Not really something to care about, it's not like they represent Steam or anything.

None of those things have anything to do with DRM.
None of those things have anything to do with DRM.
The DRM in Steam is like this: some games in Steam are locked to Steam, meaning as if you double click the .exe, Steam will launch alongside it if it isn't already launched.
I don't give a fuck about what Origin's DRM does tho, they treat their customers like dirt.
The DRM in Steam is like this: some games in Steam are locked to Steam, meaning as if you double click the .exe, Steam will launch alongside it if it isn't already launched.
Which is exactly what Origin's DRM is like.
Which is exactly what Origin's DRM is like.
Cool. That doesn't change that they won't let you play their games for cussing on their forum.

The games you purchased, mind you.
I just recieved the ban hammer for 72 hours for an incident that happened to my son on Battlelog. Seems a EA server admin banned him for using the m98 sniper rifle and going 30-0 on a tdm..
Here's the kicker; he wasn't banned from just the server but from Battlelog/Origin itself.
After along heated discussion with EA SUPPORT,they told me he was banned for bad mouthing a EA ADMIN in a game server , not in Battlelog itself. I was like WTF? You mean to tell me you can be banned for talking smack in game? Yes , you can according to Ea support.
This isnt the outragous part. For some reason , a seperate Origin account (mine) that was on the same pc and tied into a different email was banned also. So 2 accounts was banned over 1 incident that happened in a game server? Yup , turns out Origin scans your pc and looks for Ea games , and other Origin accounts. So screw up on one... and even your offline accounts that are on the same pc will not work .. .Now thats one bad a$$ ban hammer.
As of right now, we have 8 EA titles we bought and paid for that we cannot play until this ban is lifted. -ONLY 1 of them is actually using the same Email that is associated with Battlelog /Origin. Now if this doesn't scare the average gamer away from Origin titles... I don't know what will .
Sorry to ignore all the other posts, I really don't care about this Origin vs. Steam topic. Because I wanted to email the winner if they were not present on the server and the steam user names so I could add them and talk to them about everything.
So uh, why did you tell us this? We obviously can't do anything and since you didn't post the link we can't join either. I just don't get it.
That's like asking "why do we discuss anything?"

Then ask for their profile url, not their username. Your steam username is something you need to keep a secret as that's what you use to login.

Let me guess........your username is "mobrockers"? Oh man, I must have hacked your account
Profile url ends in the username, does it not?
