YouTube Is Shutting Down My Channel and I'm Not Sure What To Do
Vimeo isn't really a website on the same level as YouTube though. Not just talking about size-wise either, the kind of content they encourage most isn't what pops up on most peoples YouTube feeds.
Vimeo doesn't even want sexualized content and YouTube is full of it. Tasteful nude stuff is fine, but anything beyond that isn't fine on Vimeo, but it's all over YouTube.

By this time there are enough holes on both of YT's feet to fill in the gaps of channels dicked over by these invisible guild-lines or false copyright claims.

Wth, this pretty much means a bunch of history, current news, and even weather related videos are going to go down the drain and any educational video about any of the above, even if shown in a completely neutral light, are going to be exempt from any ad revenue.
This is horse shit.
Youtubers at the moment.
This is what happens when information is controlled by the self-regulating private sector
Yeah, it's not like governments have tried censoring people throughout the history of mankind... The big difference is that you are able to just use another product when the private sector does it instead of going to jail.

whats amazing about this is if you talk about the after effects of a tsunami and talk about how people can try and bring aid to victims of said tsunami, you're pretty much fucked
Before I get out my pitchfork is this a youtube decision or an advertising decision? I can't imagine why an advertiser would actually give a shit about cursing and violence.
I can understand drugs and extremism, but not anything else.
Also I think some of you are overreacting (hue) when you're throwing around the word "censorship".
i wonder if those finger family videos have anything to do with this?
I think american television standards have ruined people's (namely parent's's) perceptions of how often people actually swear.

Oh shit what about my penis simulation video :v:
This guy was like, one of the very, very first you tubers who got big, wasn't he? I remember watching him in middle school when he had the stock garageband video intro.
I'm honestly shocked not only at the fact that he's still so popular, but that his content is actually.. Pretty good? Like I actually enjoyed watching this video. I'm sure sometimes he appeals to that old-YouTube middle school mentality but he seems pretty adult and has kept his channel of a consistent quality for over a decade. Have to respect that.

welp, youtube shot them self in the foot
So apparently "Team Youtube" on Twitter just gave a half-assed response to DeFranco's attempts to get them to be honest about what's going on.

I feel like this is the definition of #SorryNotSorry
I'm not sure YouTube even seems to realise it's alienating the kind of creators that led to its meteoric rise to success in the first place.

I really hope a new website pops up soon. I couldn't give less of a shit on whether I have to type in the letter y or some other letter in my browser before get to a video search bar.
I can't wait for TotalBiscuit to get a hold of this.
Despite the fact that this is a real problem boy could DeFranco have picked a more over the top, lying clickbait title

He does that a lot, he's explained why and I'm not sure he should apologise for it. Tbh, idk if he even does the uploading, annotating, formatting and all that.
here, http://www.dailymotion.com/us
It would be easier to get them to fix daily motion to be how youtubers want it to be than youtube to fix it and keep where they were.
I hope it's not Dailymotion. I'd like my videos to actually load during the same day.
I hope something completely new replaces Youtube someday.

I'm aware clickbait trash titles is his usual style. His justifications don't matter to me. I'm just commenting on the fact that this wildly inaccurate title paints a situation that he himself escalated in a very biased light. It's unprofessional and the way he conducted himself regresses the situation before any real discussion could actually start.

If this means all of those shitty drama channels go under I'm okay with it. They didn't bring anything worthwhile to the table other than bickering and shitflinging, that shit shit needs to stay in tabloids and on TV

Even then all they did was make the terms even more incredibly vague and are just now actually taking action when this shit could've been solved much earlier and with a much, much more sensible solution, without the ceaseless friendly fire with shots still being directed only at the prank and / or drama channels.
Youtube's staff seriously needs to get their head out of their asses, especially when it comes to decision making, but the chances of that ever happening are just as non-existentially slim for a competitor to take over.

IMO the best solution is not one big website, but rather the more popular people each having their own website that the videos are hosted on and making a profit through Patreon, and spreading the word for each video through other social networks and alike (IRC, chat rooms, forums, etc.). Web ads just do not work anymore. Open to objections though.
[editline]2nd September 2016[/editline]
Ehh yes now that I think about it, maybe the issue is not with the fact that it is centralized, but is the fact that the centralized system is not working properly, especially since the solution is actually rather easy...

Decentralizing by the use of the old concept known as 'web rings'?
Not ideal, but as time has proven once more, a centralized service with a too big ego & money lusting executives and investors just fuck things up.
Doesn't this leave the door wide open for a huge company like Amazon to branch into Youtube's turf via Twitch? There's already a decent amount of overlap between userbase (both creators and consumers) and Amazon surely has the infrastructure/resources to make it happen.
I really don't understand why they couldn't just create a system where advertisers could just choose to select what types of videos they wish to advertise their videos under based on tags, so the ads are more relevant and don't show up against shady videos like Drama Videos instead of just fucking over a lot of big channels.
Like how hard would it be just to setup a system where the advertiser can select a bunch of blacklisting tags to prevent their ad from showing up on the video? Like seriously its like them saying, "I want my ad to appear against all of your user generated content except for things like Drama, Rape, Racism etc." instead of just cracking the whip on a load of YouTubers that haven't done anything to deserve this shit.
That's crazy! This guy makes YouTube big bucks. Expression and free speech. Go home YT you're drunk.
YouTube is seriously starting to scare me.
Yeah there's already a solution to this advertiser friendly content problem that's been employed in television for decades: Different ads for different channels. You don't see ads for whiskey on nickelodeon, and you don't see ads for kids toys on syfy. Makes sense to me just to have advertisements that fit to the content of the video, not the other way around.
